Once everyone had started eating, the little girl peeked through her fingers at a few diners, then closed her eyes and opened her mouth wide, beginning to belt out a high note...
It must be said that the child’s stamina and voice were indeed extraordinary. By the ti everyone had finished their al, her voice was as piercing as ever. Of course, with her "accompanint," no one really had an appetite, so they just hurriedly ate enough to fill their bellies and put down their chopsticks.
"Grandma, mom, I’m going to Grandpa Wan’s house." Chuxia ran off as if escaping. Her ears were almost deafened. Once she left, the child would probably stop crying, thus liberating everyone.
And sure enough, as soon as Chuxia stepped out the door, Yingying’s crying stopped imdiately. She took her hands from her eyes and grinned at Old Madam Zhou, "Great-grandmother, I’m hungry."
Old Madam Zhou wanted to refuse her food, but looking at the child’s pitiful eyes, she ultimately softened and asked Aunt Liu to bring over a plate of dumplings. Lin Yanqiu went upstairs without saying a word.
It wasn’t long before Old Madam Zhou followed, looking at Lin Yanqiu with amusent, "Think I’m being biased?"
Lin Yanqiu candidly replied, "I simply don’t agree with mom’s thods. Xiaomi and Chuxia haven’t been married long before Xiaomi left. Chuxia doesn’t feel particularly close to this family, and with Yingying behaving this way, I think in the future Chuxia won’t want to co back and stay. When Xiaomi returns, how are we going to explain it to him? You know what kind of temperant he has, mom, and I’m already starting to worry."
"Of course, I know this way is not right, but she’s just a child of a few years. So concepts, she doesn’t understand, or, perhaps this is the common practice at the Xiao family. It’s probably impossible for us to change her behavior all at once. Plus, if we overtly protect her and discipline Yingying in front of Chuxia, don’t you think that would make her even more uncomfortable?"
"Ah!" Lin Yanqiu sighed heavily and said no more.
Yes, overtly protecting her would probably make Chuxia feel even more of an outsider. Perhaps only ti could solve all of this.
Chuxia first went to Elder Wan’s place and detailed the events of the past few days to the old man, eliciting his sighs, "I really didn’t expect Baohe to be a child of the Lin Family of Capital City. Ah, it’s a bit late, but finding her is a good thing."
"Yes, the Lin family mbers seem pretty easy to get along with. I don’t think my parents will be treated poorly. They’ll head back to the village to stay for a while before returning. With them gone, aren’t you a bit lonely, Grandpa?"
"Yes." Old Master Wan nodded, "Their departure really affected . Just the other day, I habitually called for them at alti..." he said, pointing to a bag in the corner, "I asked Sister-in-law Yin to pick up so matchboxes for to paste together. But after a while, I found it aningless and just piled them there."
"They constantly worry about Grandpa too, insisting that I co to see you daily after I return, and if my teacher doesn’t allow to stay in the dorm, they want to co ho every day to keep Grandpa company."
Old Master Wan looked puzzled, "What’s wrong, aren’t you getting along well with your Husband’s Family?"
"No, not at all."
Old Master Wan looked unconvinced, "Then why talk about living here every day? Wasn’t it decided that it would be one side one day, and once you move into the dorm, it would be one side a week?"
"Ah!" Chuxia sighed with a troubled look, "Grandpa, could you please not be so smart? You know about the little girl who joined the Zhou family, right?"
The old man nodded, "I know, when the child first arrived, she cried for days. You could hear her crying from far away; it’s been the talk of our whole compound."
Chuxia sighed again, "She hasn’t cried these past few days, but every ti she sees , she starts wailing uncontrollably. I think I should avoid staying there, so everyone can at least get so sleep. When she’s no longer crying her eyes out upon seeing , I’ll move back over."
Old Master Wan nodded, "Good, then stay here for now. Later, I’ll explain to your mother-in-law about you doing this for their good rest and not because you’re having a petty squabble with a child."
"Thank you, Grandpa." Chuxia cuddled up to her grandfather’s arm, then asked curiously, "By the way, where is Sister-in-law Yin?"
"Her aunt and uncle ca to visit her, so I had her accompany them around. She grew up in her maternal ho, and that’s like having another mother."
Glancing at the ti, Chuxia said, "Then, Grandpa, would you like to join in visiting Grandpa Jing and Grandma Jing? Jing Zhe has been a great help, and I want to check on them."
