Chapter 7 — Guerrilla Protocols

The red dust storm howled through the skeletal ribs of the collapsed tower, but Kael didn't feel the biting wind. The V.I.P.E.R. suit’s newly unlocked passive routine, Enhanced Energy Conversion, was already at work, drawing in the fierce atmospheric friction and thermal heat of the storm, converting it into a steady, comforting hum of power that fed his system reserves.

[Ambient thermal energy conversion active: 0.4% core reserve generation per minute.]

[Active Camouflage status: Operational. Visual distortion minimized.]

Kael ghosted past the first periter line of Purge soldiers. They stood in pairs, their heavy black-and-gold exo-suits bulky and rigid compared to his fluid, seamless armor. They were scanning the ruins with standard infrared visors, but the V.I.P.E.R. suit didn't just bend light—it absorbed and recycled his body heat, leaving him entirely invisible to their sensors.

"Periter Secure," a heavy electronic voice grunted over the local radio frequency, which Kael’s suit had effortlessly intercepted. "No signs of rebel activity in Sector Four. Beginning deploynt of seismic spikes."

Kael stopped. Through the shifting haze of the storm, he watched a massive, multi-legged cargo drone descend from the command frigate. Slung beneath its chassis were four monolithic tal pylons—seismic spikes designed to drive deep into the crust and shatter subterranean chambers.

If they planted those spikes, Mira and the survivors wouldn't stand a chance.

[Tactical Assessnt: Priority target identified—Cargo Drone deploynt chanism.]

[Recomndation: High-velocity structural disruption. Stealth profile will be compromised upon strike.]

"Then we make sure the first strike counts," Kael whispered.

He didn't pull the broadsword this ti. A massive blade required a wide swing that would instantly give away his position to the surrounding guards. Instead, Kael focused on his right forearm. The matte-black scales peeled back, and the liquid tal coalesced into a compact, high-density spike—a heavy armor-piercing pile driver humming with localized kinetic force.

He sprinted forward, his boots making absolutely no sound against the ash-covered steel grating.

He bypassed two guards, slipping right between them like a breath of wind. When he reached the landing pad, the cargo drone was just setting down, its chanical clamps preparing to release the first seismic spike into the dirt.

Kael leaped.

The mont his feet left the ground, he deactivated the camouflage, channeling the redirected power entirely into his right arm. The suit flared a brilliant, angry crimson in the middle of the dark storm.

"What the—" a Purge soldier managed to yell.

Before the guard could even raise his rifle, Kael brought his arm down like a hydraulic press. The kinetic spike punched cleanly through the cargo drone's primary engine housing. The liquid tal expanded inside the machinery, shredding the internal gears and fuel lines in a fraction of a second.

[Structural failure achieved.]

Kael wrenched his arm back out just as the drone’s core short-circuited. He didn't wait for the explosion. He grabbed the release lever of the un-deployed seismic spikes, jamming his kinetic spike into the chanism to lock the heavy pylons permanently to the chassis.

The cargo drone violently convulsed, its remaining thrusters misfiring. With a screech of tearing tal, the entire drone tipped over, dragging the multi-ton seismic spikes down with it as it collapsed into a massive, burning heap of wreckage.

The path to the caverns was safe. For now.

"Ambush! We have a hostile variant in the sector!" the Purge commander roared over the comms, his heavy exo-suit turning toward the flas. "Open fire!"

A wall of blue plasma fire erupted from the Dominion lines, lighting up the red dust storm.

Kael rolled beneath the first volley, the heat of the passing plasma bolts actually ticking his core energy reserves upward. He smirked behind his mask, his teeth bared in the dark.

"My turn," he whispered.

The crimson mask locked onto the nearest cluster of black-and-gold suits, mapping out their weak points in real-ti. The hunt on the surface had officially begun.
