The Student Council President gathered a team after breakfast, then recruited the Sergeant when he ca down to see what the commotion was.
"Dammit, I hate fighting underground. But I can’t send you all out to deal with that alone. Alright, I will lead your expedition. Just follow my instructions instantly and exactly. There is no room for hesitation indoors, and ambushes will happen in a split second.
They might also co from above or below, not just from obvious spots like doors.
Now, show these tunnels, and we will get going. I’m fully stocked and freshly fed."
The President led them into the senior students’ dorm, a spot where most of the others would never have been. But they had a solid team, with two of the three healers, the whole student council, and then two mages.
Being in the tunnels, the amount of large-scale magic they could use was limited. So, they had opted for as many people who could fight in close quarters as possible, without giving up on magic entirely.
That left just Yara as the healer on duty for the day, and plenty of students trying to work out how they would arrange teams for the other quests.
The kill quest for the rat demons had refreshed, and with fifty more students in the Academy, they could send out plenty of students to clear the monsters from the imdiate vicinity.
"So, we just kill the ten rat demons, then co back to Kalli to get our rewards? That sounds easy," one of the new arrivals noted.
"Well, it is called an easy quest. But it only gives one System Point. The Hard Quest gives two. If we can only do easy quests every day, it will take forever to get a full set of gear," one of the other new arrivals noted.
Then he looked over at Yara. "Wait, how did they all get full gear and weapons so soon? Like, those aren’t normal items, they have to be from the rewards."
Yara shrugged. "We got a full set of Common Grade basic gear from a starter quest. The students who left the Academy too early missed out on them. But we stayed in the dorms."
"Dammit, I should have known that the ga would reward the nerds."
His friend laughed at the confused expression on Yara’s face. "Most of the students are of the opinion that this is so sort of interdinsional ga show, where we’re thrown into a real life hardcore mode ga for soone else’s entertainnt."
Yara frowned. "You know, I can’t even say for sure that you’re wrong. But we do know that it is hardcore mode. None of us can resurrect, and the number of dead in the streets makes it pretty clear that it’s not ssing around."
"Oh, that’s no lie. But gas an rewards and progression. I don’t know that the end ga play looks like, but the start is a real grind.
Maybe we’re competing against the invaders? Like, we need to eliminate them and retake the city to progress?"
Yara shrugged, but Kalli saw an opportunity.
"I think you might be on to sothing. The more that we kill and stockpile, the better the stuff that we’re getting. So, if we do more than the bare minimum today, and perhaps find so more boars to put in storage, we might get a better reward.
Maybe even an extra quest tomorrow?"
A little motivation might be just what they needed.
"You know, if you find more of our classmates to bring back, we could even aim for a hard quest that allows multiple completions. That would be two more points a day for everyone."
The students considered the options.
Easy quests were barely enough to keep them fed and slowly gear up. But they were relatively safe. Even if they had powers now, nobody actually wanted to risk their lives.
"Maybe after we have more gear. Fighting with full armour and not just a vest would be way better. I don’t suppose that there is sothing that we can work toward? Like a high-tech armour suit?"
Kalli searched through the nu, then realized that with the holographic projection, she could pull up an item and show it to the others.
{Stellar Marine Exosuit} Common Grade. Adds 20 points to strength. 150 Armour. Contains 6 hours of oxygen supply, 10 mana per hour to recharge.
{Cost} 500 System Points
The students gathered around to examine the item.
"Common Grade, but 150 armour? My bulletproof vest adds 25 points."
"Even my plate vest and chain pants only add 45 points. How can that still be common grade?"
Kalli shrugged. "I don’t pick what is available or the cost. But there are so insane items in the list. I believe that the reward boxes are sowhat random, but based on what it thinks you need right now, since it always seems to give things that are useful for the person getting the reward.
But doesn’t that an, if you do well enough on a mission, there is a chance that it will give you sothing like that?
So of the boxes have given Uncommon Grade items already, and they have special abilities, not just heavy armour. So, there should be a chance to get a lucky drop."
"Alright. You win. Let’s form up teams and go out to clear the monsters. How many healers do we have?"
A few hands went up, and the others sighed.
It was far fewer than one in five. But everyone could only do the quest once a day. So, so of them were going to have to go without a healer if they were going to do the quest.
"Let’s go search for more classmates. If we can find soone with healing skills, and convince them to co back, won’t that make things easier tomorrow? What do the healers all have in common?"
The warriors examined the group, and one of them blurted out a single word.
"Boobs?"
The warrior class girl behind him slapped the idiot on the back of the head.
"Jim doesn’t have breasts. But Jim is in pred. All the healers were either people inclined to help others or people with dical skills before the awakening.
Soone go find the class roster, I want to know who was in pred, and everyone who was in sports dicine. Then make a list of everyone you think might have that nurturing energy."
"How the hell does ’nurturing energy’ apply to Yara? That psycho is the opposite of caring."
"You say that because she kicked you in the balls for grabbing her ass. But she’s in sports dicine class."
Kalli laughed as the students argued about who was most likely to be a healer.
