Tic! Tic!

The rhythmic ticking echoed in a lavishly furnished office.

The room was filled with ancient artifacts and priceless heirlooms that seed to tell stories of their own.

A towering bookshelf stood in one corner, packed with leather-bound old books.

At the center of the room was a desk—crafted from the sacred wood of Yggdrasil itself.

Mariam sat on the other side, her glare boring into .

"...."

Her silence made uncomfortable as I shifted slightly in my chair.

[]

'I just felt like it.' ...But even to , that answer seed hollow.

I had no particular reason for asking Yennefer out.

From deep within , I wanted to do it.

Like a small part of yearned for her.

'It's really odd.'

"What were you thinking?" Mariam's frustrated voice snapped out of my thoughts. "Asking a professor out on your first day at the academy."

"..."

I just kept my mouth shut.

It wasn't like I could defend myself here.

It was reckless and, frankly, inappropriate.

And being the headmaster, Mariam had every right to lecture .

"And was it necessary to antagonize the elves?" she groaned, rubbing her temples. "I can already see them trying to make your life hell."

"They would've done that anyway," I replied with a shrug. "Their arrogance makes it impossible for them to accept ."

"Still, if you hadn't provoked them, you could've lived a normal life—"

"I don't need that." I cut into her words sharply, "My life's already too twisted for normalcy to even be an option."

"...."

Her gaze softened, and she leaned back in her chair, studying .

I didn't say anything as well, my eyes drifting around the room.

The place was filled with artifacts that caught my eyes.

A few of them were as old as the academy.

Then my gaze landed on a pair of glasses placed on the shelf behind Mariam.

I calmly looked at it, but inwardly I was screaming.

'The fuck is this doing here!?'

No.

It was always here, but Ragnar was supposed to take it in the prequel ga.

"Are you listening?" Mariam's voice pulled back to reality.

"Y-yeah?" I stamred, tearing my eyes away from the shelf.

She glared at before asking again. "Which class are you planning to join?"

"Wilhelm's class," I replied instantly. "The Diamond Class."

"Any particular reason?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.

"Not really," I said with a shrug. "Professors teach joint classes for most subjects anyway, so it doesn't matter much."

"I see," she murmured thoughtfully. "What subjects are you taking?"

"No idea," I replied, standing up. "I'll just go with the flow."

She sighed, clearly unimpressed. "Are you serious?"

Ignoring her, I walked over to the shelf. My gaze landed on the glasses again.

"What's this?" I asked, pointing at them.

Mariam's gaze landed on the glasses; her expression changed slightly, but she quickly returned to normal.

"Spectra Glass," she said softly. "It belonged to the first Head of the Segyal Highbloods."

"Can I take it—?"

"No," she cut off sharply. "It's not sothing you can have."

"Fine." I shrugged, pretending to lose interest, though my mind raced.

"Be cautious of the other heirs," Mariam warned. "Don't underestimate them, even if they're just students."

"I'll keep that in mind," I said, my attention now on a sword displayed nearby.

It had belonged to the third Head of the Segyal Highbloods.

'I need a new weapon.'

Naraka was too much for to handle in my current state.

Maybe a good katana would suffice.

"Himl." Mariam's voice softened, drawing my attention.

"Yeah."

"Be aware of Nyria."

I paused.

Turning back to focus on her.

She t my eyes as she continued. "You took everything that she was promised."

"...."

"She won't let it go," Mariam continued. "And neither will her family."

I slowly nodded as I turned towards the bookshelf.

"How's your relationship with your granddaughter?" I asked quietly.

Mariam hesitated before answering with a hollow chuckle. "I haven't spoken to her in years. Her mother won't let anywhere near her."

"I see."

Nyria. 'I hope that ugly elf dies soon.' []

'She is Ragnar's daughter; that alone is enough for to hate her.' Not that she was any better than her father.

A monster would be the right word to describe her.

'Anyway, I hope she doesn't die soon.' [
