Lilith moves to the side of the table and drops down onto one knee. The entire restaurant goes silent. You could hear a pin drop. She reaches into a small pouch at her waist and pulls out a silver ring with a glowing blue gemstone.
"Jacob! Please... please take my hand in marriage!" she shouts, her voice echoing off the chandeliers.
I freeze. I’m pretty sure my brain just short-circuited. I sit there with a piece of steak halfway to my mouth, staring at her. I knew the culture in this world was different—that anyone could propose as long as the feelings were there but I didn’t expect it to happen over dinner on a first date.
The custors at the nearby tables start to murmur.
