"But it’s too late for regrets now. I just hope... he can be happy."
Chen Ying’s words were within everyone’s expectations. They all knew exactly who the boy with eyes only for her was. However, hearing her say this, they didn’t feel sorry for her; they felt even more sympathy for Xue Yang.
Six years. That was a significant portion of their youth.
The next to spin the bottle was Chen Ying herself. She took a deep breath. At that mont, she hoped the bottle wouldn’t point to Xue Yang, feeling as if she already knew that no matter what question she asked, his answer wouldn’t be what she wanted to hear.
Eventually, the bottle stopped in front of a first-year girl. Chen Ying breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness it wasn’t him. After casually asking a question, her turn was over.
Next up was Zhou Wenqian.
"I wonder which lucky person I’ll get?"
She forcefully spun the bottle in a specific direction. It spun rapidly before its mouth finally pointed at Xue Yang.
The crowd imdiately erupted in teasing cheers.
"Ooh..."
If there was one person whose secrets everyone was dying to know tonight, it was definitely Xue Yang. He had beco quite famous at school recently, and everyone was curious to hear so gossip about him.
Zhou Wenqian looked at Xue Yang and asked with a smile, "Xue Yang, do you have a girlfriend?"
This question was exactly what every girl present was thinking. They couldn’t help but give her a ntal thumbs-up. With Xue Yang and Chen Ying officially over, they were all eager to know if they stood a chance themselves.
Xue Yang didn’t hide anything, answering directly, "Yes."
Everyone was stunned for a mont, but once the reality of his answer sank in, the room once again erupted in teasing cheers. "Ooh..."
"Which of our classmates is so lucky to be President Xue’s girlfriend?"
"Yeah, yeah, President Xue, who is it?"
Thinking of that playful Xiao Naimao, Xue Yang’s expression couldn’t help but soften. He said gently, "She’s not in Yenbei right now, but she’ll pass the entrance exam and join ."
This short sentence was packed with information.
"Ooh, so she’ll be an underclasswoman!"
Xue Yang affird with a gentle expression, "Yes, an underclasswoman."
"Sigh, I guess that ans we don’t stand a chance after all!"
"But I’m so curious what President Xue’s girlfriend looks like."
"I guess that ans we can see her in about half a year, right?"
"..."
The crowd chattered amongst themselves. The ga of Truth or Dare continued, but for so, the night had already lost its appeal.
When the party ended, Sun Yufei walked over and clapped Cui Hao on the shoulder. "Cui Hao, what do you say? Want to go out for another round tonight?"
"No thanks, you guys go have fun."
The Barbie of Steel... Whoever thinks they can handle her can go right ahead. I, for one, can’t stand her in the slightest. Just the thought of that horrific night was enough to make him lose all interest in won for the ti being.
"Xue Yang—oh, I an, President Xue. I’ve admired you for a long ti. When are you free to grab a al together?"
"Didn’t we just eat together tonight?"
Hearing this, Sun Yufei was montarily stunned, then laughed charmingly. "President Xue is right, we have eaten together. In that case, we’re friends now, right? Let’s add each other on QQ."
Cui Hao facepald from the sidelines. I rember getting caught by this exact sa tactic... Surely Xue Yang won’t fall for it too, will he?
After they added each other on QQ, Sun Yufei waved to Xue Yang and left.
"Bro, don’t say I didn’t warn you," Cui Hao said. "That one is the Barbie of Steel. She’s not soone a normal person can handle."
Xue Yang glanced up at him. Cui Hao quickly added, "I know, I know, you have a girlfriend. You’re the best, alright? It’s getting late. Let’s go back to the dorm."
Xue Yang still had his bed in the dorm. Although he hadn’t stayed there in over three months, his bedding and other daily necessities were all there, so it was convenient for him to stay the night.
However, back in the dorm, Xue Yang didn’t sleep. Instead, he was busy on his phone.
"Xue Yang, what are you doing?" Cui Hao asked.
"Collecting the latest news from online."
"What for?"
"It’ll be useful."
"Dude, it’s almost one in the morning, and you’ve been drinking. Don’t you need to sleep?"
Without looking up, Xue Yang replied, "In a bit. I’ll sleep soon. You go ahead."
Cui Hao didn’t push it. He went back to his own bed and fell asleep.
When he got up to use the bathroom around 4 a.m., he saw that the light from Xue Yang’s phone screen was still on. His friend’s eyes were sharp, showing no signs of sleepiness at all.
"Xue Yang, for God’s sake, go to sleep!" Cui Hao snatched the phone from his hand, forcibly pushed him onto the bed, and crudely threw the covers over him.
I’d have to be crazy to believe his bullshit about being fine. Of course he’s "fine." Damn it, he’s just numb to it all. How could he possibly tell if sothing was wrong with him?
"Get so rest," Cui Hao warned. "Otherwise, you’ll die from exhaustion before she even gets a chance to co find you."
Xue Yang looked up and asked earnestly, "Can people really die from exhaustion?"
"Do you damn well want to find out?"
"No. I’m going to sleep now." Xue Yang pulled the covers up and obediently closed his eyes.
Right, I promised her I would sleep well and take care of myself.
Seeing that he was actually going to sleep, Cui Hao tiptoed to the bathroom, then slipped back into his own bed. He closed his eyes, grateful he could still get four more hours of sleep.
That day, when Lin Xi ca downstairs, Lin Zhenhai personally got out of the car to et her. He was montarily stunned to see her holding an artificial peach tree. Without a word, he ushered her into the car, and they drove toward the Lin family estate.
Back ho, Lin Xi went straight to her room, placed the peach tree on her desk, and collapsed onto her bed, falling asleep.
Just like Xue Yang, she slept until the morning of January 2nd. After waking up, Lin Xi put on her school uniform and went downstairs.
It was rare for Lin Zhenhai to still be at ho at this hour. No matter how prominent he was to the outside world, how many people followed his orders, or how many assets he controlled in the Dragon Country and across the globe—at ho, he was just an ordinary father. A father who only wanted what was best for his child.
"If you don’t feel like going to school today, you don’t have to. Just stay ho and rest."
Ever since Lin Xi had returned yesterday, she had locked herself in her room and slept straight through to the morning. He was genuinely worried that sothing might happen to his only daughter. So, despite pressing matters elsewhere, he had stayed ho.
"Dad, it’s okay. I’ve rested enough. I can go to school."
"Ah, good."
"Dad, if I can get into Yenbei, will you promise one thing? Anything at all."
Lin Zhenhai was slightly taken aback. He knew very well what his daughter’s academic performance was like. It was precisely for this reason that he had been thinking about finding a partner for her who could compensate for this shortcoming. She was, after all, his only daughter and the future heir to the Lin Corporation, so he had to plan for her future. What he had never expected, however, was for her to use this as a bargaining chip to make a deal with him.
