His gaze drifted to the kitchen, where he could hear the sound of running water. Lin Xi was diligently washing the dishes. The flash of red he’d seen lingered in his mind, making him restless.

Xue Yang fidgeted, feeling hesitant and conflicted. He recalled the guarded look in her eyes at the school gate earlier. Clearly, she didn’t want him to know what was in her bag. If he looked anyway and she found out, she would be heartbroken.
After hesitating a mont longer, reason prevailed. Xiao Xi must have her reasons for not wanting to look. I should respect her wishes.
Xue Yang took out his phone. A new WeChat ssage from Xue Yuanqing was on the screen. He opened it.
"Hey, stinker, show what my daughter-in-law looks like, or I won’t be able to sleep tonight."
Xue Yang smiled helplessly. He figured Mrs. Zhong must have told his dad about her but hadn’t shown him a picture. Now his father was dying of curiosity. Xue Yang was certain that if he didn’t send a photo tonight, his dad really wouldn’t be able to sleep.
After a mont’s thought, Xue Yang raised his phone and snapped a photo of Lin Xi in the kitchen. Right at that mont, she happened to turn and smile at him. It was the perfect picture of a prospective daughter-in-law, exactly the kind the older generation would love.
Looking at the photo of Lin Xi’s pretty face and happy smile, Xue Yang’s heart lted. But then a thought struck him, and a pang of guilt followed: the dignified young lady of the Lin Family was here, washing dishes.
He quickly sent the photo to Xue Yuanqing, who replied almost instantly.
"Stinker, you’ve got better taste than your old man!"
"Truly worthy of being my son, HAHAHA..."
"Good boy! You’ve made your dad proud."
Even through the screen, Xue Yang could feel how ecstatic his father was. He couldn’t help but wonder if his parents would still be laughing like this once they learned Lin Xi’s true identity. He felt a flicker of worry.

When Lin Xi finished the dishes and ca out, she saw Xue Yang grinning to himself. She walked over and asked, "Xue Yang, what are you up to?"
"Nothing, my dad just ssaged ."
"Oh? What did Uncle say?"
"He said he wanted to see a picture of you."
"And did you send him one?"
"Did you want to?"
Lin Xi thought for a mont. "If you wanted to, then that’s fine." She’d already t his mother, so what was the harm in his father seeing a photo?
"I already sent it to him."
Lin Xi asked nervously, "And? What did Uncle say?"
Although a daughter-in-law eventually has to et her in-laws, Lin Xi was still anxious to know what Xue Yang’s father thought of her.
"He said you’re great. He told to treat you well, or he’ll make regret it," Xue Yang said, then let out a sudden, dramatic sigh.
"What’s wrong?"
"Nothing. It just suddenly feels like now that they have a daughter-in-law, they don’t need their son anymore."
Lin Xi smiled sweetly. "Well, if they don’t want you, *I* do."
Suddenly, her gaze fell on her backpack nearby. Her heart skipped a beat, and she blurted out, "You didn’t look in my backpack, did you?"
"You didn’t want to look, so of course I respected your wishes."
Lin Xi hugged the backpack to her chest. "Xue Yang, it’s not that I don’t want you to see. I just want it to be a surprise."
Xue Yang raised an eyebrow. "What kind of surprise?"
Lin Xi gave him a mysterious smile. "If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore, would it?"
Xue Yang reached for Lin Xi’s hand and gently pulled her onto his lap. "Xiao Xi," he said, "I’m thinking of moving to a bigger place."
"Why?" Lin Xi actually really liked this apartnt, even though it was simple. It held all their mories—from when they first reconnected and got to know each other to when they fell in love. Every corner held a beautiful mory. She never thought there was anything wrong with it.
"This place is too small. I want to move sowhere bigger." The truth was, Xue Yang didn’t want Lin Xi to have to put up with such simple conditions. But he knew that if he said that, she would just insist she wasn’t suffering at all.
This girl... She’s the young lady of a vastly wealthy family, yet she’s not the least bit picky about her surroundings. I really don’t get how she was raised.
What Xue Yang didn’t realize was that Lin Xi wasn’t being un-picky about the place; she simply didn’t care where she was, as long as he was there with her.
"If you want to move, then let’s move," she said. "How about this: tomorrow, we’ll get our hair done first, and then we can use the rest of the day to look for a new place."
"Get our hair done?"
"Did you forget? We already agreed. Your hair has gotten long, so I said I’d take you for a cut once I was on break." Lin Xi tilted her head back and ran her hands through his hair. "I think you could even get a new style."
"Aren’t you worried that if you make look too good, soone will try to steal from you?"
"Would you let yourself be stolen?"

"Of course not," he said aloud. "I’ve been stamped head-to-toe with the ’Property of Lin Xi’ brand. Who would be blind enough to try anything?"
"It’s not like it couldn’t happen," she countered. Outstanding people always attract attention. This was especially true for soone like Xue Yang; there would definitely be girls who’d try to make a move even knowing he had a girlfriend.
Lin Xi wrapped her arms around Xue Yang’s neck and pressed her cheek against his. "What do I have to do to make anyone with ideas about you get rid of them for good?"
"Getting into Yanbei would probably do the trick, don’t you think?"
"But that’s so far away!" The college entrance exams were over, but the sester didn’t start until September. It felt like an eternity.
Xue Yang watched his worried Xiao Naimao. She has no idea that I’m already exclusively hers. Still, he enjoyed watching her fret over him. He was curious to see what his little kitten would do.
"It’s getting late. Go take a shower and get ready for bed."
A blush colored Lin Xi’s cheeks. "Xue Yang, you go shower first tonight."
"Hmm?"
Usually, Lin Xi showered first, then Xue Yang. Tonight, she’d reversed the order.
Although Xue Yang found it a little strange, he simply carried her into the bedroom, set her down on the bed, and then grabbed his clothes and headed to the bathroom to shower.
