Hearing her mother speak ill of her in front of the older brother she admired, Jiang Sisi’s eyes reddened with hurt. Was it so wrong that she just wanted to see Brother Xue Yang? Pressing her lips together, looking as though she wanted to cry but didn’t dare, she was an utterly pitiable sight.
"I think Sisi is very cute," Lin Xi said. "Since you’re both here to talk business anyway, I’d like to take her to the amusent park next door for a while." Squatting in front of Jiang Sisi, she asked with a smile, "Sisi, look, there’s an amusent park right over there. Shall we go and play?"
This big sister is so gentle. Just as gentle as Brother Xue Yang.
Jiang Sisi desperately wanted to go, but she was afraid her mother would scold her for being difficult.
Sure enough, Jiang Wei spoke up with so embarrassnt. "Miss Lin, this... wouldn’t this be too much of an imposition? What if Sisi throws a tantrum... I’m worried she’ll upset you."
This is Miss Lin, after all. She’s a veritable living ancestor; I can’t afford the consequences if she gets offended.
"Not at all! I think Sisi is an adorable little girl, and I doubt she’d throw a tantrum without reason. Besides, she’s just a child; it’s normal to be a little moody sotis. I’d really like to play with her for a bit. Sister Jiang, is that okay?" Lin Xi looked at Jiang Wei, her big eyes blinking with anticipation.
Faced with such a hopeful gaze, even Jiang Wei, a woman herself, couldn’t refuse.
"Sisi, you can go to the amusent park with Miss Lin, but you cannot throw a tantrum, do you understand? If you do, Mommy will never take you out to play again. And I won’t let you see Brother Xue Yang anymore."
Jiang Sisi was used to the first threat, so it didn’t hold much weight. But the second part... not being allowed to see Brother Xue Yang... that, she truly couldn’t accept.
Her gaze fell. Why does Mom always think I’m going to cause trouble? When have I ever caused trouble?
Seeing that Jiang Wei had agreed, Lin Xi took Jiang Sisi’s hand and led her away from the tense atmosphere. "Co on, let’s go! Ti for the amusent park!"
Jiang Wei’s eyes followed their figures until she saw them reach the amusent park. She watched Lin Xi buy two tickets and saw them enter together. Only when they were out of sight did she finally look away.
In contrast to Jiang Wei’s distrust of her own daughter, Xue Yang seed completely calm. He wasn’t at all worried about Lin Xi taking a seven- or eight-year-old girl to an amusent park; he had no doubt she could handle it.
Jiang Wei looked at the young, fresh-faced man before her. Who would have thought that just six months ago, he was an ordinary college student, desperately trying to launch a business? He had even co to her for help. Jiang Wei was thankful that she had helped him back then. In doing so, she had earned herself a powerful connection—one that could potentially reach the very top.
"President Xue, the reason I asked you here today..."
"Sister Jiang, let’s hold off on business for a mont. Let’s talk about sothing else."
Jiang Wei’s expression faltered. "President Xue..."
Why would he suddenly say that? Could it be... he already knows why I wanted to see him today? But I dropped that idea the mont I saw Miss Lin. Now I just need to figure out how I’m going to explain this to my boss.
Paying no mind to her expression, Xue Yang stirred his coffee and said, "I think Sisi is very cute and well-behaved."
Jiang Wei understood. So, Xue Yang didn’t want to talk business because he wanted to ask about Sisi.
But what is there to know about Sisi? Don’t tell ... are they planning to have a child? Hmm... that seems a bit fast. And whether Chairman Lin would even agree is a whole other question.
"When she’s not being naughty, she is indeed very cute," she conceded.
"Does General Jiang think Sisi is very naughty?" Xue Yang asked.
"Yes, extrely. She often has hopping mad..."
Once she started talking about Jiang Sisi, it was as if a floodgate had opened, and Jiang Wei couldn’t stop herself. However, she only recounted her daughter’s bad side, as if there were no good qualities at all.
Yet, from her description, the ssage Xue Yang received was different. Sisi was simply a child who desperately lacked a sense of security and craved more of her mother’s attention. That was all.
"Sister Jiang, have you ever considered why Sisi acts this way? And after she does these things, how does she react? How do you react? And what’s the end result?"
Jiang Wei was taken aback. Why does Sisi do these things? Isn’t it just to deliberately throw a tantrum? To make angry...
She suddenly recalled how Jiang Sisi had put up a fuss that very morning before she left. Her demands had been simple: she wanted to go out with her mother. She was scared of being left ho alone. She wanted to see Brother Xue Yang... because he was very gentle.
Then, she rembered other incidents. It seed every ti her daughter threw a tantrum, it was because she had been ignoring her, or after she had left on a business trip for several days, leaving Sisi alone with the nanny.
Jiang Sisi had already lost her father, which put her at a significant disadvantage compared to her peers.
Jiang Wei felt she was truly an unqualified mother, having unknowingly allowed her daughter to suffer so much hurt.
"Xue Yang, I can’t believe I understand my own daughter less than you do. I’m such a failure." The thought of the unintentional pain she had caused filled her with so much guilt it made her want to slap herself.
"Sister Jiang, you only wanted to give her a good life. There’s nothing wrong with that."
"Thank you, Xue Yang. I’ll definitely try harder to understand Sisi’s feelings and spend more ti with her from now on."
Xue Yang’s gaze drifted toward the amusent park. It was crowded, but Lin Xi was simply too radiant to be missed. With just a single glance, he found her.
She and Jiang Sisi were climbing a slide. Sisi slid down first, with Lin Xi right behind her. After reaching the bottom, they would imdiately climb back up, playing with more abandon than the other children. Because she was beautiful and had such a gentle way of speaking, other kids were gradually drawn in, joining the fun on the slide.
Soon, the tall slide was swarming with children, with even more lining up for their turn. It was no surprise, as slides are always a favorite with children. The scene was as spectacular as a grand troop inspection. Two park employees stood nearby maintaining order, which only added to the impressive sight.
After watching for a mont, Xue Yang looked away and turned back to Jiang Wei. "Sister Jiang," he said, "when I ca to you for help, you assisted without hesitation. So, since you’ve co to this ti, I’ll help you with anything within my power."
Jiang Wei’s mouth opened, then curved into a smile. "Xue Yang, you’re an excellent person, and I’m certain your future accomplishnts will be great. Because of that, I don’t think you should let external forces clip your wings. You should be soaring freely in the sky."
Xue Yang looked at the woman before him, this woman who held him in such high regard, as if searching for sothing in her eyes. But all he saw was pure sincerity.
