Upon hearing this, Chen Ying gave an embarrassed smile. "Sister Lin, I’m fine. I’m sorry for causing everyone trouble these past few days. I’ll get my emotions in order and focus on my work. I won’t make any more mistakes."
"I hope you keep your word." Sister Lin shot her a disapproving look before returning to her workstation.
I really don’t understand how the Director can think soone who’s all style and no substance is so outstanding. Could it be just because she’s pretty? If we’re talking about looks, the Young Miss is a hundred, even a thousand tis prettier than her. And what about all those actresses in the entertainnt industry? Is there a single one who isn’t more beautiful?
"Chen Ying, the Chairman wants to see you," the receptionist said, suddenly appearing in the finance office.
"Oh?" Chen Ying asked, thinking she must have misheard.
"You heard right, it’s the Chairman," the receptionist said. "Hurry up. Secretary Li just called. Don’t keep the Chairman waiting."
"Oh, oh, okay."
Chen Ying quickly composed herself. With no ti to tidy her desk, she ran toward the stairs.
As she ran, she couldn’t help but wonder. Why would the Chairman suddenly want to see ? Could it be that my data error has alard even him?
As a finance professional, she was well aware of the massive consequences a data error could cause. At that thought, her lovely face turned pale as a sheet. Even so, she didn’t slow her pace. It felt like being summoned by the horoom teacher; no matter how terrified she was, she didn’t dare dawdle.
The others were also surprised to hear that the Chairman had summoned Chen Ying by na.
"The erroneous data couldn’t have actually reached the Chairman, could it?"
"If that’s the case, we’re all dood."
"It’s all Chen Ying’s fault! How could she ss up such simple data? Now the entire finance departnt is implicated. What am I going to do? I have a mortgage, and I have to support my parents and kids. I can’t lose this job!"
" too! If I lose this job, I don’t know how I’ll survive."
"The incorrect data probably wouldn’t go all the way up to the Chairman. Let’s not worry unnecessarily. Don’t forget, we still have Director Zhong watching our backs. In all these years, when have you ever seen him make a mistake?"
At the ntion of Director Zhong, everyone’s expressions eased sowhat.
"That’s right. Thank goodness for Director Zhong."
For the entire finance departnt, and indeed for all of Lin Corporation, Director Zhong was a pillar of stability. As long as he was around, the sky wouldn’t fall.
...
Chen Ying soon arrived at the Chairman’s office on the top floor.
This is my first ti on the top floor. I thought I’d never get the chance to co up here in my entire life. I never expected the opportunity to arrive so soon. For a mont, I don’t know whether to feel happy or worried.
Chen Ying composed herself, checked that her appearance was in order, and then mustered the courage to raise her hand and knock.
"Co in."
An authoritative voice emanated from within. Chen Ying shuddered, feeling for a bizarre mont as if she were in ancient tis, about to have an audience with the emperor. But then she considered that the man inside held the economic reins of the entire nation, and such a feeling seed justified.
She gently pushed the door open and stepped cautiously inside. The first thing she saw was a vast office space. The design was simple, yet it exuded an unmistakable aura of power. She didn’t dare let her eyes wander. Only after she had fully entered did she notice Assistant Li was also present. Standing before the Chairman’s desk, Assistant Li saw her and smiled. "Chen Ying, co over here."
Chen Ying hurried to the spot Assistant Li indicated. Without daring to lift her head, she greeted the man at the desk, "Good afternoon, Chairman. I’m Chen Ying from the Finance Departnt, responsible for data processing."
Lin Zhenhai looked up at the young woman before him.
Although not particularly tall, her looks and figure are certainly top-tier. And she’s the gentle, demure type. Definitely the kind of girl n would like.
"Hmm. Do you know Xue Yang?" Lin Zhenhai asked.
Chen Ying was taken aback. She had assud the Chairman had summoned her because of the data. She never expected it would be about Xue Yang.
Could sothing have happened to him? That seems unlikely. As far as I know, he recently bought another supermarket and has been running a promotional event these past two days. I heard the response has been quite good. After work last night, I even went there to pick up so daily necessities. Items that would normally cost three or four hundred, I bought for just over two hundred. Sotis I can’t help but wonder, does Xue Yang actually make a profit doing this? Won’t he end up losing the money he made from his ga company? But that has nothing to do with ; worrying is pointless. Wait... I’m getting sidetracked.
"Chairman, Xue Yang and I are from the sa hotown and went to the sa school. However, we haven’t been in contact since I graduated," Chen Ying replied, her tone neither servile nor overbearing.
"Good," Lin Zhenhai replied ambiguously.
Chen Ying was bewildered.
What on earth does the Chairman an? Can’t he be more direct?
Her gaze drifted to Jiawen Li, who stood nearby, hoping to glean so useful information. However, Jiawen Li remained perfectly still with a pleasant smile, as if everything happening had nothing to do with her. And in truth, it really didn’t.
"That’s all. You can go back now."
Though confused, Chen Ying felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Yes, Chairman."
She quickly exited Lin Zhenhai’s office. Once outside, she felt completely drained, as if she had just returned from a battlefield. It was a hundred, even a thousand tis more nerve-wracking than taking her college entrance exams.
I hope the Chairman doesn’t summon for no reason again. Wait...
An idea suddenly struck Chen Ying.
The Chairman summoned ... Could it be because Xue Yang used to pursue ? The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seed. Will this affect Xue Yang?
Chen Ying knew Xue Yang was engaged to the heiress of Lin Corporation. There was no longer any possibility between them. Although there was no chance in this lifeti, Chen Ying still hoped he would find happiness. It could be considered her sincere blessing, after having rejected him for six years.
It looks like I can’t stay at Lin Corporation any longer.
Chen Ying took a deep breath and then exhaled, releasing all the turbulent thoughts from her mind. In that mont, her body felt a sense of release. All her uncertainties cleared, and everything clicked into place. She felt light, relaxed in both body and mind.
She quickened her pace back to the office, opened her computer, and began to type.
...
After Chen Ying left, Jiawen Li said to Lin Zhenhai, "Chairman, did you call her all the way up here just to ask that one question?"
She found it completely out of character for him. Summoning an employee just to ask if she knew Xue Yang... no matter how she thought about it, it simply didn’t align with the Chairman’s usual way of doing things.
