When he didn’t move, Si Wen speared a piece of apple with a fork and held it in front of Xue Xing.
"Ah, open your mouth!"
"..."
Xue Xing’s heart began to race. I’ve never eaten anything fed to by another girl before!
"I... I’ll do it myself."
"Ah, open your mouth," Si Wen repeated, her tone playful.
Seeing her insistence, Xue Xing reluctantly opened his mouth and ate the piece of apple she offered. His heart pounded even faster, as if it were about to leap from his chest. What Xue Xing didn’t realize was that his face had turned beet red, like a cooked shrimp—succulent and appetizing. He looked like a ripe red apple, so tempting one couldn’t help but want to take a bite.
Si Wen watched his reaction, amused all over again. He went from an expression of soone facing their doom to one of discovering a new world.
"How is it? Not as bad as you imagined, is it?"
Xue Xing gulped down the apple and nodded. "Mmm! It’s different from others I’ve had. It’s so crisp and sweet."
Si Wen squinted. "Perhaps it’s a different variety."
Her fruits were all imported, and she only selected the best of the best, so of course they were different from the common ones sold in the market. However, Si Wen didn’t elaborate. She speared another piece of apple and held it to Xue Xing’s mouth.
"Ah, have another piece."
Xue Xing almost choked on his own saliva.
"Sister Si Wen, please, let eat it myself."
"You took care of in the hospital for so long. Now that I’m almost better, it’s my turn to show my gratitude. You wouldn’t deny such a small request, would you?"
Si Wen’s words sounded aggrieved, but her expression was unyielding. The contrast was almost comical. She simply stared at him, not saying a word, holding the fork steady with the piece of apple.
Xue Xing had no choice but to force himself to eat it.
However, as if she had discovered a newfound pasti, Si Wen speared another piece and brought it to his mouth. After the second ti, Xue Xing resigned himself to his fate and simply ate the next piece without protest.
One bite after another followed, and soon, there wasn’t much left of the apple Xue Xing had peeled.
"Sister Si Wen, if I keep eating, it’ll all be gone."
This ti, Xue Xing refused to eat any more, and Si Wen didn’t press him. She finished the remaining few pieces herself. Afterward, Xue Xing took the fruit plate to the bathroom to wash it before placing it back on the coffee table.
Lying on the bed, Si Wen gazed out the window. The snow had stopped, leaving a pristine blanket of white on the ground.
When Xue Xing ca out after washing the plate, she turned to him and said, "I’m pretty much better. Let’s check out of the hospital."
Xue Xing frowned. "How can you say that? The doctor hasn’t cleared you for discharge."
"So we’ll just go tell him now," Si Wen said dismissively.
"You should stay here and wait for the doctor’s official notice," Xue Xing insisted. The mory of how he’d found Si Wen yesterday sent a shiver of fear through him.
Si Wen waved her hand. "I’m fine now. Besides, it’s inconvenient in the hospital, and I can’t sleep well. If I don’t sleep well, my recovery will be slower."
"That’s still not acceptable. What if your fever cos back?"
"Oh, we’ll just have the doctor prescribe so dication for to take on ti. Staying here is miserable, and you don’t want to recover slowly, do you?" Si Wen blinked at him with exaggerated force.
It was clear Si Wen was trying her best to act cute for Xue Xing. The problem was, her personality wasn’t suited for it, and she didn’t know how, making the attempt adorably awkward. It was actually quite funny.
And... very cute.
How could Xue Xing possibly resist her? He reconsidered. She really hadn’t had a fever today, and she seed much more energetic. She has enough energy to tease and force-feed fruit, after all.
"Fine," he relented. "But we can only leave if the doctor agrees to discharge you."
"Okay," Si Wen nodded happily.
She agreed so readily that Xue Xing grew suspicious. Does she really have a way to make the hospital discharge her?
Unsurprisingly, the doctor agreed to Si Wen’s discharge. For one, all her vitals had recovered well and t the criteria. For another, who would dare to keep her here against her will? If Miss Si Wen threw a tantrum in their hospital, how could they possibly handle it? Besides, a young lady like her from such a prominent family is bound to have a private physician. A repeat of last night’s ergency is unlikely.
By the ti Lin Xi received the call, Si Wen and Xue Xing had already arrived back at Si Wen’s Xiangshan Villa. As it happened, Lin Xi was also at the villa, so she quickly inford Auntie Shen and hurried over.
Seeing Si Wen so full of life, Lin Xi’s expression relaxed slightly. Still, she pulled out her phone. "I’m calling Doctor Wu to co and check on you."
"Oh, you don’t have to! It was just a little cold. Normally, so dicine would have been enough. I’ve already spent a day in the hospital; I feel strong enough to wrestle a bear right now—"
Seeing Lin Xi’s face darken, Si Wen didn’t dare say another word. She could only let her call Doctor Wu.
About half an hour later, Doctor Wu arrived with his dical kit. He appeared to be in his early fifties, with the kind face of a benevolent elder. He first greeted Lin Xi and Si Wen, then imdiately began a thorough check-up.
Xue Xing stood by unobtrusively, trying to be invisible. I always knew rich families had private doctors, but seeing it firsthand is still pretty shocking.
"Miss Lin, Miss Si Wen’s health is no longer a major concern," Doctor Wu reported. "She just needs to take her dicine on ti and focus on her nutrition."
Lin Xi smiled. "Doctor Wu, thank you for making the trip."
"It’s no trouble at all. If you need anything in the future, Miss Lin, you can always call ."
"Okay, thank you, Doctor Wu. Auntie Shen, could you please see Doctor Wu out?"
"Of course, Miss."
After Auntie Shen escorted Doctor Wu out, only Si Wen, Lin Xi, and Xue Xing remained in the room.
"Um... Sister-in-law, can I go back to my place now?"
"No!" Si Wen answered.
"Why not?" Xue Xing couldn’t help but ask.
"Didn’t you hear Doctor Wu? I still need to take my dicine on ti to get better."
"Then just... take your dicine on ti."
"I’m not fully recovered yet. If there’s no one to remind , I could easily forget."
"..."
Xue Xing was speechless. He instinctively shot a pleading look at Lin Xi.
"Oh no!" Lin Xi exclaid. "I just rembered sothing very important. Uh, Xue Xing, I’ll leave Si Wen in your care. I have to go now."
With that, Lin Xi scurried away as if she really had rembered sothing of monuntal importance. For a mont, Xue Xing couldn’t tell if she was being serious or not.
