Annabelle Linton was in high spirits. She cheerfully said she’d call soone to clean up, then walked out the door with her two bags, never looking back.

"Damn it!"

Leona Grant watched her walk away, looking so effortlessly cool, and smashed sothing in a fit of rage.

...

The apartnt Annabelle Linton rented was fully furnished.

Looking at the cozy little ho before her, she couldn’t stop smiling. She finally had a ho of her own.

Annabelle Linton happily set about arranging her new ho, just as she had once done for the ho she shared with Leona Grant.

Even though her hand was aching, she savored every mont of it.

That evening, Ryan called. Annabelle felt there was no reason to hide things from him, so she asked him to co over.

The mont Ryan Linton walked in the door and saw the state she was in, he launched into a tirade. "It’s only been a few days and you’ve already let yourself get like this? Annabelle Linton, let ask you sothing, how old are you? How can a grown woman not know how to take care of herself? You think it’s cool to go around looking like a wreck all the ti, is that it?"

To Annabelle, everything seed adorable at the mont. Seeing her handso younger brother scolding her with such a stern face made him look even cuter, and she just kept staring at him with a smile.

"Hey, you’re still smiling? Are you high or sothing? What’s so funny, huh? Be serious! If you don’t give an explanation today, I’m not done with you! A woman your age, still so irresponsible! What are you going to do when you’re old? And I’m warning you, stop laughing!"

Annabelle burst out laughing. She fell back on the bed, thoroughly enjoying the drama, and continued to laugh. "When I get old, I’ll co live with you. I’ll make it my mission to embarrass you, cause trouble for you all day, and turn your house upside down just to drive you mad."

"Don’t even think about it. I don’t know you," Ryan Linton said, his face still stern, his anger not fully subsided. "You’re not getting away with this that easily. If you don’t give an explanation, I’ll..."

"You’ll what?"

"I’ll..." Ryan finally settled on what he thought was the most severe consequence he could offer. "If you don’t explain yourself, I won’t talk to you for a whole month!"

Annabelle just laughed even harder, and Ryan was so angry he looked like he could have strangled her.

Seeing that they had joked around enough, Annabelle sat up and looked at him. "I’m getting a divorce."

It was like a bomb had just been dropped, and Ryan felt like he was at ground zero. "What did you say?!"

"As soon as your birthday is over, I’m divorcing Leona Grant. In three or four days, your big sister will be a free agent again—a single woman!"

Ryan still looked incredulous. "Are you kidding ?"

"Do I look like I’m kidding?"

He looked at her. She really wasn’t.

He asked again, his voice laced with anxiety, "Annabelle, did sothing happen? If sothing’s wrong, you can’t just hide it and keep it to yourself. I’m capable of helping now. I can face it all with you, so please don’t treat like a kid. Also... are you divorcing him willingly?"

A warm feeling spread through Annabelle’s heart as she looked at the worried young man before her.

Her life had never been smooth sailing—it had left her covered in scars. But Ryan was the ray of sunshine that always soothed her soul.

She still rembered when she was seventeen. Leona Grant had been kidnapped, and she had taken a bullet for him, leaving her in a vegetative state for a year.

Throughout that ti, Ryan had been the one by her side. She would never forget how he had cried as if his world were ending the mont she woke up.

She had been in a coma for two months of that ti, and Ryan had been the one to care for her. In those two months, he had lost over twenty pounds.

A wave of warmth washed over Annabelle’s heart. She lowered her gaze as a tear escaped and fell. "Nothing’s wrong. We’re just getting a divorce. I asked for it. I don’t love him anymore."
