Annabelle Linton’s lips curved into a smile as well, though it looked sowhat unnatural on her usually cold face.
But a rare warmth softened her features.
She smiled faintly and looked at him. "So when are you coming back?"
"Hmm... I still have so things to take care of here. It’ll probably be two days. What’s wrong, miss already?" he asked expectantly.
Seeing his eager expression, she deliberately teased, "That... I’ll have to think about it. It’s really hard to say..."
When his expression fell, she chuckled and said, "Alright, I’m just kidding... I miss you a lot..."
"How much?"
"Very, very much."
" too..." Aaron Wyatt pursed his lips into a faint, contented smile. "I miss you so much. I started missing you even before I left."
Annabelle humd softly, her gaze lowering as the corners of her lips couldn’t help but lift again.
Aaron Wyatt gazed at her gentle eyes, sighed, and gave a wry smile. "I really want to co back and hold you right now, but I can’t leave. This is torture..."
"Silly, aren’t I here with you?"
"But I miss *you*. I want you here in front of , I want to hold you..."
She found his frustrated expression especially cute.
On his end, only a single desk lamp was on, casting a dim light.
The warm, yellow light shone on his chiseled face, making him look unusually gentle. His soft, llow voice seeped into her heart, carrying a warmth that was incredibly reassuring.
Annabelle’s lips curved as she gave him a comforting look. "There, there."
"Thanks... I’ll be good. You have to take care of yourself while you’re ho alone, okay?"
"I will."
Aaron Wyatt looked at her beautiful, placid face and sighed again, saying reluctantly, "Alright, I won’t keep you. You should get so sleep. If we keep talking, I’m afraid I really won’t be able to stop myself from coming back."
Annabelle smiled. "You take care of yourself too. I’ll be waiting for you to co back."
Those words, "I’ll be waiting for you," made Aaron Wyatt’s heart lt completely. He said gently, "Thank you, my darling baby. Your hubby will work hard to provide for the family and make my darling baby the happiest woman in the world. You have to believe in your hubby, you know?"
"I know."
"Thanks for trusting ~" He blew her a kiss. "Good night, baby."
"Good night."
Annabelle was the one who ended the call.
In all the years they had known each other, Aaron Wyatt had never once hung up first.
She pulled up the video he had sent earlier and couldn’t help but watch it a few more tis before falling asleep, clutching her phone...
The next day, Annabelle was still asleep when she vaguely heard a noise in her drowsy state.
She opened her eyes, got out of bed, and sure enough, heard the sound of soone pounding on her door.
Yes, pounding. Not knocking, and certainly not the doorbell.
Causing such a disturbance this early in the morning, she wasn’t even sure if they were at her door.
Still half-asleep, Annabelle opened the door without a second thought to see what genius was making all the racket.
The mont she opened the door, the person practically burst in, giving her no ti to react as they slamd her against the wall, nearly trampling her.
That certainly woke her up.
Annabelle spun around, not even looking at the person as she snapped with a frown, "Are you insane? Is there a fire? An earthquake? What’s with all the drama, you—"
Leona Grant actually looked like she was here to put out a fire and save lives. "You scared to death!"
"..." ’Who’s scaring who?’
