Very soon it was the day of the magic competition. kina had worked very hard under Elena's guidance to beco better with her magic and was ready to face any challenges that would appear in her way. As Elena was a S ranker, kina completely believed her judgent. Elena took this chance to praise kina a lot and this simple gesture was enough to dismiss one of the main weaknesses which was her low self esteem.
Now that kina was able to truly believe in herself and her magic once again, she had gotten better with it in all aspects. It was truly amazing how much the mindset of a person affected their magic casting. Elena was not sure if kina was good enough to win the whole competition or not as she had not Investigated other young mages as she wanted to train her to the best of her ability without having any particular goal in mind.
That was because, in those cases, she would only try to make her to reach the goal and in that process she might not be able to realise her full potential. This was the reason why Elena did not always set a particular goal to fulfill while training soone. Now she was looking forward to seeing how well her new student was going to do.
...
The whole city was bustling with excitent as the magic tournant was about to begin. As it was going to only be the younger mages participating in this part of the tournant, the excitent was still under control. It could be imagined that in the main tournant, the excitent level would be several tis higher.
Elena and Tomoe were sitting in the VIP room to watch this tournant at their leisure. The price of buying the VIP room was quite expensive but for Elena it was nothing. She actually wanted to book a private room to enjoy the show but then she found out that there was only a single private room present in this whole arena and only the current city leader was allowed to use that room. So Elena had to go for the best available option in her hand.
They were not alone in the room but a few more rich people were also here. But still this place looked almost empty if compared to the general stands as there was not even space left for a child to stand there. Even in the younger mages' competition, the arena was full house.
The first round of the tournant was not going to take place in the arena though. The competitors were already doing the first round which was a test where a mage's abilities would be checked using various gadgets that Elena had already seen in the training ground.
It was a simple elimination round where mages whose abilities were below a certain threshold would be eliminated from the tournant. But the threshold was actually very low. So any decently good mage should be able to pass them. So basically the first round was there to cut off the absolutely useless individuals from wasting everyone's ti. That was also the reason this event happened in the backstage.
But there was an exciting aspect of this first round too. The score of the top 10 perforrs would be shown to the whole arena and the score of the top 100 would be posted in magical items for anyone to check. So getting into the top 10 was a very easy and effective way to promote oneself. And even though getting into the top 100 was not as good as the top 10. But any organisation would give a person special treatnt if that person had managed to rank among the top 100. So it was still sothing that many people wanted.
With her previous performances, kina was very sure that she would at least be able to be ranked among the top 100. But she was targeting the top 10 spots. She was an amazing girl who was praised by a S ranker, so this was the minimum achievent she should get, right ?
So with that confidence in her chest, she did her best in all the tests and soon the results were released. The scoring system for each test was different. So the magic guild had co up with a process of assigning a unit point based on all the tests. That point was called the achievent points and the higher this achievent point was, the better the result.
Everyone was eagerly waiting for the results to co out. Even the organisers themselves did not check the scores before the official release as to maintain the suspense and fairness. So everyone participants and the audience looked at the large screen to check the results.
There was a betting counter in the arena too. Many people had already put their money on young mages who were famous in the city. There were only three people who had bet their money on kina, who was an unknown, unpopular mage.
...
As soon as the results were out, everyone was surprised. At the top of the list there was soone whom everyone had expected. It was the youngest A rank mage of this city and a genius who only had magic and nothing else in her mind. With her talent and dedication to magic if she was not at the top of this year's competition, then that would have been extrely surprising.
But what surprised everyone was the second na. It was the na of an unfamiliar mage that they had never heard of. But a few people who had graduated from the magic academy just a few years ago recognised that na and widened their eyes in disbelief as that was the na of a fallen genius whom they had almost forgotten about. It was obviously kina.
Elena was happy with the results. What she had heard about the first girl, Dorothy, was definitely a magic freak. If that person who had practiced magic all her life could not get the first place then no one was more deserving. kina definitely loved magic too but her love was nowhere near the level of a freak.
...
As soon as the results were out, kina almost lost her balance in surprise. She had expected a good result after doing her best but she had no idea that she would be able to reach the second place. She had seen Dorothy before and was extrely impressed by the way she used magic, even though Dorothy was younger than her. Normally she would feel jealous about this type of person but after kina saw how mad Dorothy was about her magic, she was a little bit relieved that she did not turn out that way. It was truly scary.
So now that her confidence was truly at the peak, kina was ready to take on any obstacle to get a good position in this competition.
