Bai Ning Bing frowned. Fang Yuan didn't look all that different since the last ti she had seen him. He bore no injuries, and other than his increased cultivation level, nothing about him seed to have really changed. She knew Fang Yuan was lying from one simple fact - that his lips were moving.
"Do you know where the inheritance is?" Bai Ning Bing asked.
"Yes, I do," Fang Yuan said, pointing to a place near the mouth of a bridge. "Let's not delay and see what's inside."
Xiang Xie had been watching events unfold from a distance, wondering what was going on. He had sent out a ssage to both the Zhu as well as Jun clan heads, and he had not received a response. Upon seeing that Bai Ning Bing was approaching the area and seeing a black-haired person next to her, well, he didn't need any help putting two and two together and he imdiately bolted for it.
What had he said earlier? That he would agree to take responsibility for their decision to imprison Bai Ning Bing, and that they could bla it on him in case Fang Yuan ca? That he would go ahead and plead before Fang Yuan and lower his head like a dog and beg for forgiveness in that case?
That was all, of course, simply for show and to convince those two clan heads that they couldn't negotiate with Bai Ning Bing until they had found the inheritance.
Xiang Xie was not stupid enough to think that Fang Yuan might actually spare him. He knew that many supre heroes within the righteous path were actually supre hypocrites. He did not think for a second that Fang Yuan was actually going to spare him even if he apologized, and so he imdiately made a run for it, abandoning both villages.
He cursed his luck. This ant that he was going to be giving up the inheritance without having obtained anything from it. However, he could only make use of the inheritance if he was alive. He knew better than to continue staying there.
As for his reputation as a rcenary, well, reputation was certainly important in his line of work, but it was not worth more than his own neck. Reputation would only take him far so long as he was alive.
For that matter, Xiang Xie did not care about his reputation because if Fang Yuan happened to destroy these two villages, there would be no one to go ahead and spread his negative reputation to future employers, now then, would there?
Both the benefits of the Thought Ruler Demon Lord's inheritance, as well as his reputation, he willingly discarded simply so that he could live to fight another day.
"So this is the inheritance," Bai Ning Bing said, glancing at it. "There are gu worms down below."
"Indeed. There are many Emotion and Wisdom Path Gu worms down below," Fang Yuan said, stroking his chin.
"How did so many of them survive for so long?" Bai Ning Bing asked.
"The Thought Ruler Demon Lord was quite ticulous," Fang Yuan said. "He had managed to create an environnt down below in which these gu worms could live on their own, and he harvested so of them as needed. Many of these Gu worms were single-use and as such would have to be refined once more after one had consud them. But letting them grown on their own as wild gu... he would be able to avoid the hassle of rearing them himself and could let nature take over."
The Depression Millipedes scattered before the aura of his gu worms. Bai Ning Bing had heard about these gu worms and shuddered inwardly at their effect.
"To think that such gu worms exist. The person who used them truly was a demonic cultivator," she thought.
They both reached the entrance down below, and Bai Ning Bing began reading what was written of the Thought Ruler Demon Lord's biography.
"Hmm," Fang Yuan muttered. "Bai Ning Bing, it seems that you can't co along with towards this inheritance."
"What? Why not?" Bai Ning Bing asked.
"Because you're a woman," Fang Yuan answered. "The Thought Ruler Demon Lord specifically said that only n are capable of obtaining his inheritance."
"What?" Bai Ning Bing said, shocked. It wasn't like she hadn't read that portion of the biography, but rather, she still considered herself a man and didn't even think that this would be an issue.
"How exactly does he test for that sort of thing?" she asked. "I'm still a man!"
"Oh really, are you?" Fang Yuan said, coldly chuckling to himself.
"Fang Yuan, hand over the Yang Rotation Gu so that I can explore this inheritance as well," Bai Ning Bing said.
"Oh, actually, you don't need to worry about that," Fang Yuan said, stretching his arms.
Bai Ning Bing was a bit taken aback by just how… relaxed he was. He didn't seem to be eager or tense like she would have ordinarily expected. Or what common sense would dictate while exploring a demonic inheritance like this.
"Could it be, just like with the Flesh Bone Lord's inheritance, you also happen to know about this from beforehand?" she asked. It would explain his confidence going in.
"Actually, no," Fang Yuan said. "I actually don't know anything about this inheritance in question. I've never even heard of it before."
This was true. Back during his previous life, he had not heard of there being a Rank 5 inheritance out here, this close to Shang Clan City. The na 'Thought Ruler Demon Lord' had eventually faded from history by that point. Either the original Zhu and Jun clans from that tiline had kept it closely under wraps to the point that no one had ever heard about it afterwards, or it had not been discovered in that tiline because of the butterfly effect.
That said, it wasn't entirely out of the question that he wouldn't have heard about it. While so people tended to write about inheritances they had found in their autobiographies, or stories would spread after the inheritances in question had been found, such was not always the case. Not everyone was a braggart, after all.
"Then how do you intend to proceed?" Bai Ning Bing asked. "This is a demonic inheritance. We will need to be careful before advancing forward. It seems the Zhu and Jun clans have been trying to get this inheritance for a while but have had no success whatsoever."
"That is not a problem," Fang Yuan said. "Like I said, we'll get through this inheritance without a problem."
It would have been an issue for Fang Yuan earlier, even if he had been Rank 5, because of the ticulous way an inheritance could be arranged, especially given the amount of ti that the Thought Ruler Demon Lord would have had in order to set it up ant that it would have been very difficult for a mortal Gu Master to unravel things from the outside. One mistake and it would be like a knot that you had pulled the wrong way and had suddenly locked up.
Right now, even though Fang Yuan had sealed his cultivation to Rank 5, he had already set up several gu worms to inspect the layout of this inheritance. The fact that they were mostly Wisdom and Emotion Path Gu worms made it all the easier for him to do so.
To put it in plain terms, earlier he would have been like soone playing a video ga normally. They would have no choice but to obey the rules of the ga and try to figure it out, perhaps even through trial and error or looking up a walkthrough. Only that Fang Yuan, naturally, would have nothing like that to rely upon. Now, though, as an Immortal, he knew the secrets of the entire layout of the inheritance, and he could refine those gu worms effortlessly and alter the inheritance per his will. To build on the forr analogy, it was as if Fang Yuan, instead of being an ordinary gar, was soone who was able to hack into the ga's code and not only change it, but put in whatever cheats he wanted.
