After they got settled, they talked a bit more with the man, learning new things. The currency that was used was called Credits, and their money system worked pretty much the sa as every place.
But the only difference was that a lot of treasures existed here and they could be used as currency as well.
The man also told them how they had to keep a low profile because the dangers that existed here were extre and nurous; people died without knowing what killed them.
He also asked they stay away from anything that had to do with demigods and, most especially, gods.
With the little information that they had, Silva, Lily, and Drake headed out the best day, heading for the Arcane Council.
They walked through the streets, heading deeper into the city. There were a ton of other humanoid races around: so elves, dwarves, and many races that he didn't even know existed. But they all had one significant similarity, and that was they were mostly humanoid.
No one paid attention to them, though, and that was better, a fresh start.
Silva's plan wasn't to stay here forever, though; his family was still alive and waiting for him back ho, and he was definitely going to go back for them.
But that would have to wait a bit, because here in this new place there were many things that he didn't know, and there were many dangers.
So until his footing was solid, he wouldn't return to them.
The Arcane Council building was a massive structure at the core of the city. It reached high into the sky, a towering figure that instilled fear from looking at it alone.
There were a lot of businesses around the building; they capitalized on the pull of the building to gather new custors, it was a hotspot.
Silva moved through the crowd carefully, and finally they arrived at the building.
"Do not go in there!" a man yelled. Silva turned to see who that was. It was a man with crazed eyes, scattered hair, and tattered clothes.
He was lean down to the bone, his teeth crooked and so yellow it irked anyone that looked at them.
"That building will steal your soul. It starts by working for them, and slowly your soul is gone," the man yelled. He rushed to Silva, trying to stop him, but before he could get to him, a bolt of lightning slamd into the man, throwing his body back; he slamd into the crowd and rolled for a few ters.
He lay down there spasming; Silva couldn't tell if he was still alive at this point. He looked at everyone — they ignored the man like he didn't exist.
'Is this normal here? How co no one cares?'
"Hello, sorry about that rat," a voice ca from behind Silva. They turned around to see who it was. It was a tall man in a black jacket that went down to his ankles. He had flowing black hair and deep black eyes.
"Are you the one that attacked him?" Silva asked.
"Yes, indeed. This town is crawling with vermin that have lost their true selves. They believe that they are seeing visions and the truth, but in honesty, their souls have been cracked," the man said.
"Their souls cracked? Wouldn't sothing like that kill the person?" Lily asked.
"Indeed it would, if they were weaker. But most people that co here are the strongest in their own small world, and so a small soul crack wouldn't be enough to kill them, it just turns them into that," the man said, glancing at the man on the ground.
He looked at Silva. "Seeing that you don't know this, I presu you are here for the first ti," the man said.
"Is that easy to tell?" Silva asked.
"Well yes, there are only two ways you don't know about this: either you are new, or you are dumb and uninford. I'm sure you aren't the second," the man said, giving a soft smile.
'For so reason, I find this dude heavily unsettling.'
"This is our first ti, yes," Silva said.
"I see, so you are coming to join the Arcane Council. You didn't go to any of the cultivation guilds, which ans that you are more of a mage," the man said.
"Is that an issue?" Silva asked.
"Not at all. I am a mage, well, a mage and a martial artist. I mastered both sides," the man said with a proud smile.
'Is this dude flexing on ? I'll bash his head into a rock if he doesn't knock this off,' Silva thought, but he looked calm on the outside.
"Master, please don't do anything rash," Drake spoke in Silva's mind; he could tell that Silva wanted to bash the man's head in.
"There are no laws against fighting Silva; you can simply punch him, he is too obnoxious," Lily said.
"The two of you get out of my head. I'm not hitting anyone, yet," Silva said.
"Since this is your first ti, let guide you. You'll need to take the Arcane Trial first before you can pass and beco a mber," the man said and headed for the building. Silva took a deep breath and followed behind the man.
"The trial is pretty straightforward. It simulates situations that a standard mber of the council will face during missions: monsters, bandits, abominations, ancient creatures, rift monsters, all.
It will throw at you, and your aim is survival. Defeating them is a plus. The Arcane Council hates to invest in people without potential and talent, and that's why they do this.
They use stars to rank what level you get if you pass the test. It goes from one silver star all the way to five silver stars, then the sa for gold, platinum, diamond, Mythic. After that you enter the rank called Cosmic, and beyond that, well, getting to Cosmic is already near impossible, so there's no need to know what's after."
