Such a deanor from him made Sumr Sutton pause.
Sumr’s heart skipped a beat, as if she had a premonition of what he wanted to say, inexplicably feeling a bit nervous.
Adrian Walyon stared at her for quite a while, speaking slowly, "Sumr, the night in London when the incident happened, wasn’t there sothing you wanted to tell ?"
Sumr looked at him in astonishnt, her cheeks slightly flushed.
Adrian looked at her insouciantly, his handso face slowly leaning towards her, his fingertips gently pinching her delicate chin as he asked insistently, "What did you want to tell ?"
"..."
Sumr felt dumbfounded for a while after he spoke, her lips moved slightly, seemingly struggling.
A long silence stretched between them.
Sumr just stared at him, looking at him steadily for a good mont, her tone calm, "What I wanted to tell you was, actually, many tis I wanted to say thank you to you, for so many things I’m grateful."
Adrian paused, clearly not expecting her to say this.
"Just that?" His hand holding her chin froze, Adrian unwilling to give up.
"Just that." Sumr raised her face, her gaze eting his directly, her eyes void of any emotion.
Adrian was montarily stunned, his gaze stubbornly fixed on her, as if trying to see through her.
Yet, Sumr’s eyes held no emotion, as still as a stagnant pool of water.
Adrian fell into a trance for quite a while, reluctantly withdrawing his hand.
"Once you’re done washing, co out, no one cares about your gratitude." He tossed the clothes to her, turned around, and walked out of the bathroom.
Sumr sluggishly wiped herself dry, dressed, and walked out, only to find Adrian already gone.
He seed to have gone to attend to work matters, not returning to the room for several hours.
At around midnight, when Sumr was about to fall asleep, the door to the room was slowly opened.
She knew he was back.
Sumr’s drowsy consciousness beca a bit clearer.
Adrian closed the bathroom door, freshened up inside for a while, and upon returning to the room, he lifted the cover and got into bed.
He must have known she wasn’t asleep.
Silently, he stared at her back for a good while, unexpectedly blurting out, "Tonight, I was quite disappointed."
Sumr’s back stiffened briefly, facing away from him, quietly closing her eyes without saying anything.
She knew what he ant.
Sumr’s personal understanding of love was that after ti had settled, if the other person still made you feel warm, and you still constantly cared for them, that was love.
Not just a brief encounter, a montary impulse of emotions.
Adrian said nothing more afterward, closing his eyes and quietly drifting to sleep.
...
When Adrian woke up the next day, Sumr had already gotten up earlier.
As he went downstairs, she was watching the news.
It’s still about the Sutton Family’s company.
Since their marriage, she had always been paying attention to the dynamics of the Sutton Family’s company, and Adrian often found her distractedly staring at the news about the Suttons.
"You’ve already left that family, why concern yourself so much?" He glanced at her, reminding her.
"You don’t understand." Sumr tossed him a bland remark and moved to the dining room.
While eating breakfast, she suddenly ca out with a sentence, "Adrian, I want to go back to River City for a few days."
Adrian paused, halting his eating, "There’s no family left there, why go back?"
"My father’s morial day is approaching." Sumr’s eyes suddenly flickered.
Adrian paused again.
This ti, he said nothing more, just replied, "Alright, settle on the ti, I’ll accompany you!"
