Now reading: Chapter 26 — The Council Opens Its Eyes from Shadow Ascension system, a Action novel by Nazareth.

The academy did not wait long.

Within hours of the arena evaluation, Kael and Reyn were summoned.

Not to a classroom.

Not to an office.

But to the Council Chamber.

A place even most instructors never entered.

The hall was circular, built from dark polished stone that absorbed light rather than reflected it.

Floating runes hovered in silence above the center table.

Kael stepped inside first.

Reyn followed a few seconds later.

The doors closed behind them with a heavy sound.

THUD.

Silence.

Then—

Voices.

Not from one direction.

From everywhere.

The Council

Seven figures sat suspended around the chamber, partially hidden by layered mana veils.

Only their voices were clear.

The first spoke.

“…Kael.”

A pause.

“…Unclassified Talent. Artifact anomaly. Shadow interference subject.”

Kael stood still.

Listening.

The second voice followed.

“…Reyn Volkar.”

“…Legendary Mage candidate. Wind Compression lineage.”

Reyn leaned slightly back, unimpressed.

“…You dragged here for labels?”

A faint pressure flickered instantly in the room.

The third council mber spoke sharply.

“Control your tone.”

Reyn didn’t respond.

Kael didn’t react either.

He simply observed the room.

Every surface.

Every mana flow.

Every hidden rune.

The system flickered.

====================

High Authority Zone Detected

Information Density: Extre

Recomnded Action: Data Collection

====================

Kael’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“…So this is where decisions are made.”

The central council voice spoke again.

“Kael.”

“You are classified as S Talent (Anomalous).”

A pause.

“…Explain your ability.”

Silence.

Reyn glanced at Kael slightly.

Kael didn’t answer imdiately.

Because there was nothing simple to explain.

Then—

“…I adapt.”

A pause.

The council remained silent.

The voice followed.

“That is not an ability.”

Kael replied calmly.

“It is.”

Another voice cut in.

“Your artifact interactions suggest absorption capability.”

Kael nodded slightly.

“Yes.”

A murmur spread faintly through the chamber.

“…Confird.”

The first voice again.

“And your combat style?”

Kael replied.

“…I learn during combat.”

Reyn clicked his tongue softly.

“…That’s one way to put it.”

A faint pressure reacted instantly.

The council again.

“Reyn Volkar. Do not interrupt.”

Reyn shrugged slightly.

“I’m just listening.”

A different council mber spoke slowly.

“The concern is not your strength.”

Kael’s eyes shifted slightly.

“…Then what is it?”

A pause.

“…Your growth rate.”

Silence tightened.

The voice continued.

“No recorded mage in academy history has adapted mid-combat at your rate.”

Reyn looked at Kael more directly now.

“…That part is true.”

The council ignored him.

Another voice added.

“Your artifact absorption violates known magical law structure.”

Kael replied simply.

“…Then the structure is incomplete.”

A pause.

That answer caused a shift.

Not anger.

Interest.

The central voice spoke again.

“…We will test you.”

Kael tilted his head slightly.

“…Test?”

A rune lit beneath him.

Then another.

Then the entire chamber activated.

BOOM.

Mana pressure descended.

Not attack.

Constraint.

Lyra’s voice wasn’t present—but Kael would have understood it imdiately:

This was a suppression field.

Reyn felt it too.

“…Tch.”

His wind mana was slightly restrained.

Kael remained still.

The system flickered violently.

====================

WARNING!!!

Mana Suppression Field Activated

Shadow Flow Resistance Increasing

====================

Kael exhaled slowly.

“…Interesting.”

A council voice echoed.

“Survive this.”

“And demonstrate control without adaptation advantage.”

Reyn raised an eyebrow slightly.

“…So this is a test.”

Kael stepped forward slightly.

“…Then it’s simple.”

The pressure increased instantly.

BOOM.

Kael’s body sank slightly.

But his shadow moved.

Not outward.

Not aggressively.

It stabilized.

Like it had been waiting.

Kael closed his eyes briefly.

Not in surrender.

In calculation.

Then—

Shadow Step activated.

But slower than before.

Controlled.

asured.

He moved within the suppression field.

Not resisting it.

Mapping it.

The council observed silently.

“…He is adjusting to suppression…”

“…Without mana amplification…”

Reyn watched carefully now.

“…So he can function under restriction too.”

Kael opened his eyes.

“…I understand it.”

A pause.

Then—

He extended his hand slightly.

Shadow condensed.

Not large.

Not explosive.

Precise.

A single stable form.

The suppression field wavered slightly.

The council reacted instantly.

“…What is that?”

Kael replied quietly.

“…Control.”

BOOM.

The shadow stabilized inside the suppression field.

Not breaking it.

But resisting alignnt collapse.

The chamber went silent.

Even Reyn narrowed his eyes slightly.

“…That’s not normal adaptation.”

Kael looked up.

“…It’s understanding.”

Silence stretched for several seconds.

Then—

The central voice spoke slowly.

“…Test concluded.”

A pause.

“…Both subjects are approved for continued academy observation.”

Reyn exhaled slightly.

“…Finally.”

Kael lowered his hand.

The suppression eased.

The system flickered once more.

====================

New Record Added

Authority Resistance Demonstrated

Shadow Integration Phase Progress: 1.4%

====================

Kael’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“…Integration.”

He didn’t say it aloud.

But the council had already noticed sothing else.

Sothing they didn’t announce.

Not yet.

Because the real question wasn’t what Kael was.

It was what he would beco if left unchecked.

And for the first ti in the academy’s history…

No one in that room agreed on the answer.
