Aunt May was still outside playing cards and hadn’t co ho yet. Evelyn walked down to open the door, and upon seeing Shannon Dunn, she instinctively stepped back two paces.
Shannon was casually dressed in a long skirt, the hem of which floated around her ankles, exuding infinite charm.
Evelyn always felt that standing next to Shannon was sowhat humiliating for herself.
A girl like Shannon, who had both grace and beauty, would certainly have n entrapped by her every smile and gesture!
"Evelyn." Shannon smiled as she spoke, "I’ve been sent to deliver a docunt to you, I hope you won’t hate , I’m just caught in the middle."
Evelyn suspiciously sized up Shannon, "A docunt?"
From Shannon’s opening words, why did it feel like this docunt was a matter of life and death?
Did Caden Lockwood have Shannon deliver it?
Shannon handed the docunt to Evelyn, gesturing for her to look at it first.
Taking the docunt, Evelyn opened it and was dumbfounded by the bold "Divorce Agreent" written on it.
Di...vorce?
She had anticipated this outco, but the arrival of the divorce papers so soon left her sowhat overwheld.
Her head felt dizzy as she took a few steps back, her gaze evasively looking around, then she slumped onto the sofa, feeling weak all over.
Shannon sat down opposite Evelyn, casually fiddling with her hair, then spoke: "Look at it, if you find no issues, just sign."
As she spoke, she handed the pen to Evelyn.
Evelyn stared blankly, not moving, summoning the courage to look at the divorce agreent—just an ordinary A4 sheet of paper, but the words on it were heart-wrenching.
The terms were simple; they had nothing to do with her, essentially throwing her out with nothing.
"I know you’re not the type of girl who’s after money, so this kind of divorce agreent is actually respectful to you." Shannon softly declared.
Upon hearing this, Evelyn’s lips barely curled into a faint smile.
It seed she had nothing left but to accept.
From the beginning, she had agreed with Caden, they could divorce at any ti, and she never intended to take a penny from him.
Their marriage had never been normal in the first place.
Now divorcing, it just ant everything was returning to the starting point.
What was wrong with that?
Yet why did her heart feel so sour, so painful, and so heavy with sadness?
"Evelyn?" Shannon prompted again, probing: "You...won’t make things difficult for , will you?"
"No!" Evelyn shook her head, only realizing her voice had already choked.
Moving her lips, she forced a smile, not caring if it looked worse than crying.
Taking the pen from Shannon’s hand, Evelyn whispered: "Don’t worry, you won’t be put in a difficult position. I’m not one to drag things out."
With that, she signed her na.
Her heart seed to be pierced by a needle, causing her face to contort with pain.
Stroke by stroke, she carefully wrote her na, every stroke with exertion.
Her fingertips turned a ghastly white, and as she wrote the final stroke, her vision blurred beyond recognition.
"Thank you for being cooperative." Shannon spoke softly, "So... please move out as soon as possible, don’t entangle with Caden anymore, and refrain from boasting about being Mrs. Lockwood."
Pausing briefly, she continued, "After all, you were just a pawn Caden used to anger his father. There’s no need to take it seriously; just let it be a fleeting dream and forget it. It’s better for you, right?"
