After reassuring herself internally, Evelyn’s expression remained grave.
She still rembered that Logan Shaw had two phones.
The phone she held might not necessarily be the one used to contact Aunt May.
Taking a deep breath, Evelyn forced herself to relax a bit, yet that tight nerve showed no sign of easing.
Looking at the juice beside her, Evelyn picked it up and drank it all in one go, then dialed Aunt May’s number.
The rhythmic yet monotonous sound filled her ears, and the few seconds of waiting felt like an eternity to Evelyn.
Finally, the call was connected, and she heard Aunt May’s respectful voice in her ear: "Sir."
Sir!
Hearing those words, Evelyn’s heart trembled heavily.
How could this be?
Could it be that Logan Shaw is really the older brother?
Evelyn couldn’t believe it. She checked the number she dialed again, confirming it was indeed Aunt May’s.
Evelyn recognized Aunt May’s voice, and it was true that Aunt May referred to the older brother as "Sir."
Evelyn was so scared that her whole body was trembling uncontrollably.
She imdiately pressed the hang-up button, as if a basin of icy water had been poured down from the top of her head, freezing every cell in her body.
In this scorching sumr, she could not feel a trace of warmth.
Her thoughts were in chaos, her mind buzzing noisily, as if her world was collapsing, so unfamiliar, so hopeless...
On the other end of the line, in a dimly lit bedroom, a man sat on the sofa, a shadow covering the upper half of his face, making it impossible to discern the color of his eyes at the mont.
Yet, those chiselled lips were set in a straight line with no hint of a smile, his re presence exuding an air of authority, cold and majestic, forbidding anyone from approaching.
In his hand, he held a phone, the text ssage box filled with ssages from L and Evelyn Morgan.
He seed to read them over and over again, the more he read, the colder the aura around him beca.
He was L.
Beside L, there was a recording device.
As a hacker, it wasn’t difficult for him to record Aunt May’s voice and intercept the call Evelyn made.
"Evelyn." L’s thin lips parted slightly, his voice low and hoarse, "Stay well with Logan Shaw, Caden Lockwood is a beast you should not touch."
The lights in the room dimd slightly, then returned to normal, casting light on L and elongating his shadow, making him seem exceptionally lonely and desolate...
At this mont, Evelyn was completely in turmoil.
Having used Logan Shaw’s phone to call Aunt May, and then hearing Aunt May call "Sir," Evelyn was now convinced that the older brother was indeed Logan Shaw.
She was panicked, fearful, and even more puzzled.
If Logan Shaw was indeed the older brother, why did he deny it?
What complicated matters were there that she did not know about?
"Why?" Evelyn murmured softly, "Why won’t he even admit it? Is there a reason? Or does he feel... it’s unnecessary?"
This uncertain unease was driving her close to collapse.
Evelyn quickly threw Logan Shaw’s phone onto the table, as if it were a ticking ti bomb, making her want to stay away.
Logan Shaw is the older brother?
Is Logan Shaw really the older brother she admired throughout her ignorant youth?
Her obsession, fixation, curiosity - countless birthday wishes were for the hope of being with the older brother.
And now, the older brother was right beside her, yet she couldn’t even recognize him?
What should she do?
She was now Caden Lockwood’s wife. She was determined to spend the rest of her life with him!
But now, at this critical mont, the older brother appeared?
