Chapter 216: Elective Course

On the first day of school, according to the academy's arrangent, apprentices of all grades were to gather at the plaza in front of the Magic Tower.

The purpose of the gathering, naturally, was to welco the new apprentices who had enrolled this year.

"This year again, not even a single A-level talent apprentice—"

Listening to Anthony-Rook calling out the nas and introducing the talents of the first-year apprentices one by one, Vivian couldn’t help but whisper gossip to Janna.

"Yeah, I heard that not only our academy but also Blackbone Grove and Mist Tower didn’t recruit any A-level talent apprentices this year."

Before the sester began, the White Ballet Shoes Club had organized a group bonding event, and from Richard Eva and others, Janna had heard quite a bit of gossip.

Among them were all sorts of rumors regarding the new students at the various academies.

"The path ahead is yours to walk. I hope you all can work hard and not waste your talents."

Anthony-Rook spoke rapidly throughout, without any unnecessary delays. After briefly reading out so academy rules, he ended the gathering with a short word of encouragent.

"Ka—new apprentices, follow this way."

With the activity concluded, apprentices of each grade dispersed one after another. The relatively bewildered first-years were led to the dormitory by the Rook to complete various enrollnt procedures.

"When did you buy a new wizard robe?"

Vivian, who had planned to drag Janna out shopping, was suddenly dazzled when she saw Janna wearing a deep green wizard robe that looked very similar to her previous one but was clearly more finely made.

"I didn’t buy it. It was a gift from the Spirit Communication Group."

"Spirit Communication Group?"

Hearing Janna’s words, Vivian felt a bit confused.

"Is that robe a new release? I’ve never seen that design before."

Having just finished her closed-door training yesterday, Vivian hadn’t had the ti to go shopping lately. Naturally, she hadn’t seen the new product promotional posters being displayed in front of the Spirit Communication Group building.

"It’s the spring collection—Vivian, I need to attend an early class, so I won’t chat anymore."

"Huh? The class schedule hasn’t even been released yet. What class are you attending—don’t tell it’s an elective?"

"Exactly. I’m off now."

After hastily bidding farewell to Vivian, Janna quickly headed toward the Magic Tower.

Watching Janna’s departing figure, Vivian, left alone, could only purse her lips helplessly, then walked thoughtfully toward the academy entrance.

The chanical elevator doors opened slowly. After thanking the Tower Spirit, Janna quickly entered the public classroom on the seventh floor of the Magic Tower.

"Janna?"

Just as Janna was about to find a seat in the front row, a familiar voice suddenly called out from behind her.

"Good morning, Senior Hugh."

Unlike his usual rcenary adventurer attire, Hugh Stone was uncharacteristically dressed in a formal dark-colored wizard robe today.

"Morning—you’re only in second year, right? You’re already taking the Guardian Studies course?"

As a Guardian Faction apprentice with a B-level [Sturdiness] talent, Hugh Stone had only just begun to take Guardian Studies this year.

Even for soone directly aligned with the Guardian Faction, Hugh Stone was quite late in starting the Guardian Studies course.

But he had no choice. Passionate about accepting all sorts of rcenary missions, Hugh Stone usually struggled just to keep up with the Required Courses. There was simply no ti left for electives.

It wasn’t until third year, when most of the Required Courses were nearly completed, that Hugh Stone finally had the ti to take other electives.

"I don’t usually take on missions, so I have more free ti. I figured I’d start early with courses I’m interested in."

"You? Have more free ti?"

Hearing Janna’s words, Hugh Stone looked puzzled.

"Don’t you still have your work as an opera actress? Doesn’t that conflict with your study schedule?"

"The troupe schedules everything for weekends, so it doesn’t interfere with my studies."

Saying that, Janna and Hugh Stone sat together in the second row, taking the available seats.

"Tsk, when I was in second year, I couldn’t even keep up with the Required Courses, and yet you have the energy to take on an extra elective—impressive."

To Hugh Stone’s admiration, Janna simply smiled without ntioning that she had also taken additional electives like Interdiate Transfiguration, Interdiate dical Studies, and Mutagenics—things that might sound absurd to others.

"By the way, aren’t you a Summoning Faction apprentice? What made you decide to take Guardian Studies?"

Looking at the Guardian Studies textbook Janna had taken out from her Thorn Bracelet, Hugh Stone, who had forgotten to bring his own materials, awkwardly tried to change the subject.

"Senior, don’t you think that exactly because I’m a Summoning Faction apprentice, I should study this course even more?"

"True—"

Just as Janna said, in the eyes of ordinary people, the combat power of a Summoning Faction apprentice ca entirely from their Contract Summoned Creatures.

So, when facing a Summoning Faction apprentice in battle, as long as the summoner was dealt with first, their Contract Summoned Creatures would naturally collapse.

Precisely for this reason, it was only logical for Janna, a Summoning Faction apprentice, to study Guardian Studies. However...

Looking at Janna’s serene, harmless appearance, Hugh Stone still vividly rembered how she had dominated the Marsh Secret Realm battlefield.

No matter how one looked at her, Janna didn’t seem like a “fragile” Summoning Faction apprentice who only hid behind summoned creatures.

"Ahem—"

With a booming cough, Professor Uta, whose beard nearly reached his ankles, slowly walked into the classroom carrying a thick textbook.

And with his arrival, the previously noisy classroom instantly fell silent.

"Good morning, apprentices."

"Good morning, Professor Uta."

Uta, surna unknown, talent unknown, age unknown, was currently a professor at White Coral Academy responsible for teaching five courses: Ancient Magic History, Elvish Language, Dragon Language, Guardian Studies, and Divination Studies.

Only one course fewer than Mary Margaret, who taught Basic Spellcasting, Interdiate Spellcasting, Introductory Herbology, Interdiate Herbology, Introductory Biology, and Interdiate Biology, making him a veteran model worker at White Coral Academy.

However, since Professor Uta mainly taught relatively dry theoretical courses like Ancient Magic History and Elvish Language to first-year students, his presence wasn’t as pronounced as that of Mary Margaret and Grace Eva.

It was like Lilith Mage—even though she taught Transfiguration, a star course in the academy, she didn’t have much presence among the first-year apprentices.
