Chapter 377: Professor Mage’s Invitation

Dordogne, White Tower.

In a massive room entirely made of books, a young man wearing round glasses and a double-breasted tailcoat sat leisurely on a high-backed chair.

In front of him floated an enormous book, as tall as a person, drifting like a feather. The pages turned constantly in accordance with his gaze.

“Clororo, how were this year’s evaluation results?”

As soon as the words fell, another enormous book flew out from the bookshelf. When it opened, a cloaked alchemical puppet stepped out from the first page. It wore a white smiling mask and had a giant winding key inserted into its back.

“Not bad, better than last year.”

The young man did not lift his eyes from the book before him. He simply nodded calmly after hearing Clororo-Kim’s report.

“And that apprentice from Turin’s wizard gathering place? How did she perform?”

“Very well.”

“Oh?”

As the page before him turned with a rustle, the young man finally moved his gaze slightly, upon hearing Clororo-Kim’s unreserved praise.

“Bring everyone’s evaluation results later—especially that person you praised.”

“As you command.”

Rustle—

With the rapid turning of the pages, Clororo-Kim returned back into the first page of the book.

“Hopefully, among this year’s Trial Seeds, there will be so surprises.”

As the room returned to silence, the young man’s eyes fell back onto the massive book. The book that had flown down from the shelf earlier now returned to its original place.

“Professor Mage, you called .”

Hearing the voice, Janna turned her head and saw the professor of Transfiguration class, whom she had not seen for quite so ti—

Lilith-McGee.

“Tonight at eight o’clock, co to my office—this is also Headmaster Anthony’s wish.”

As always, Lilith-McGee wore her hair in a ticulously elegant bun. But today, instead of her usual dark purple robe, she wore a dark green silk high-collared witch’s robe, similar in style to the vine robe Janna had on.

“Alright, Professor.”

Though she did not know why Lilith-McGee invited her, upon hearing that it was also Anthony-Rook’s intention, Janna nodded compliantly.

“Then I’ll see you tonight.”

Having received Janna’s agreent, Lilith-McGee responded gracefully, then left with the other wizards.

“Janna, why would Professor Mage call you alone?”

Hearing their exchange, Vivian waited until Lilith-McGee was out of earshot before asking in a voice only the two of them could hear.

“I’m not sure either, but I guess it must be related to Transfiguration.”

Looking at Lilith-McGee’s retreating figure, Janna shook her head with the sa curiosity as Vivian.

“Vivian, do you have any other plans later?”

“Other plans? Why, are you going to treat to a al?”

For once, hearing Janna ask about her schedule filled Vivian with unexpected anticipation.

“Of course I’m taking you to the library to review. Don’t forget, the final exam is only a week away.”

“Sigh, I knew it. If you ever co to on your own, it’s either for studying or for reviewing—”

Seeing Janna’s earnest expression, Vivian sighed quietly and then clung to Janna’s arm.

“Let’s go, my dear Miss Janna. Please take care of again for this year’s finals~”

“No problem.”

“Are you heading to the library?”

Maro-Heigel and the others had just co out of the barrier. Upon overhearing Janna and Vivian’s conversation, they walked over with bright interest.

“Yes, we were just about to go.”

“Can I co along—”

“Sorry, no.”

Before Maro-Heigel could finish, Vivian instantly cut him off with a cold face, showing no rcy.

“Apologies, but Janna and I already made plans today. If you want to go too, book a ti in advance next ti.”

“Well, alright then.”

Hearing her decisive tone, Maro-Heigel shrugged helplessly.

The other apprentices who had wanted to invite Janna along also gave up after Vivian’s words, keeping quiet instead of embarrassing themselves further.

“Vivian, even if they go to the library with us, it won’t affect our studying together.”

“I know, but I just don’t want them disturbing us.”

Seeing Vivian’s slightly awkward look, Janna only smiled silently and led her toward the library.

Sigh...

Vivian, who had been secretly watching Janna’s reaction out of the corner of her eye, relaxed when she realized Janna wasn’t angry at her for rejecting the others.

Deep down, Vivian knew very well that going to the library together and going out to eat together were two different things.

If soone intruded on a al, it would inevitably affect the atmosphere. But the library required silence, and each studied in their own spot. Even if there was an extra person, it wouldn’t matter much.

Still, she didn’t want others tagging along. There were only a few months left before the White Tower Trial began, and she would spend more than half that ti in seclusion.

If she passed the trial, it would be fine. But if she failed, these months might be the last ti the two of them could spend together.

Especially ti spent alone—such monts felt even more precious to Vivian then.

“No matter what, I must pass the trial!”

“I must!”

After winter set in, darkness always fell early. By the ti Janna and Vivian ca out of the library, the bright moon already hung high in the night sky.

“Do you really not need to go with you to the Magic Tower? I can wait for you downstairs.”

After a simple dinner in the dining hall, it was almost ti for Janna’s appointnt with Lilith-McGee.

“No, Vivian, you should rest early. I can go by myself.”

Seeing Janna’s refusal, Vivian did not press further.

“Alright then, I’ll go first. You should also rest soon.”

“Mm, go on back.”

Janna waved with a smile as Vivian looked back again and again. Only when she had walked far away did Janna check the ti and head toward the Magic Tower.

“I wonder why Professor Mage called this late—what could it be about...”
