The flas bursting out from the director seed intent on devouring the entire police station. On the rooftop of the building opposite, two people stood watching the chaotic scene below and the shooting flas, their dark eyes seemingly hesitating about sothing. The alarm sounded soon after, echoing in all directions, possibly to chase down the escaped prisoners. The distraction strategy wasn’t very sophisticated, but it was indeed a thod. The key is, who brought the reporters here?
"Boss! It seems like it’s not just us this ti." Troy energetically bounced beside him, apart from the bandages still wrapped around his neck, his limbs appeared lively and intact like new. "Is that Hua Qingyi really popular?"
Xiao Lin’s gaze was drawn to a small, distinct figure! "I saw the rainbow!" These were the words he heard the last ti he t Hua Qingyi. From this height, he couldn’t see clearly, but the way that small figure clung to isai was incredibly similar to the rainbow; every action was identical.
"Troy, do you know who that child is? The one clinging to isai? He doesn’t look like soone from our departnt."
"I don’t know! isai isn’t married yet, can’t have a kid." Troy squatted at the edge, this building is three floors higher than the police station, making it a pri Sniper’s perch. Putting the director’s office so exposed here makes it a vulnerable target. "Boss, who do you think set fire to the cells?"
"It doesn’t matter who did it, as long as the goal is achieved!" Xiao Lin turned and left the rooftop, wanting to confirm the truth of sothing that had been troubling him deeply.
"You have sothing on your mind, is it that child? It couldn’t be..."
"No need to make blind guesses, tell the brothers to hide well, we can go ho soon."
With this promise left behind, Xiao Lin abandoned Troy. Troy knew how fast Xiao Lin could move; if he didn’t want soone to catch up, they wouldn’t. So, Troy shrugged his shoulders and strolled leisurely down the street. Despite his la leg, his face wasn’t too unpleasant to look at, possessing a unique charm, or rather manliness. Troy was quite a rugged, young, and wild man. Unfortunately, his la leg made it hard for those won who wanted to approach him. His neatly arranged hair waved freely in the front, with a small tail tied at the back. Finally, a bold girl approached, but before she managed to get to him, soone was quicker and joined Troy’s side, throwing an arm around his shoulders, leaning in close to his ear, "Lin, huh?"
"Gone!" Troy sniffed the person beside him like a dog, then shoved him away. "You stink, where have you been?"
"Enough about that, we need to find Lin quickly, it’s urgent!" Gently pushed away, Yelu Shou snuggled back closer to Troy, and the two diverted into a small pub! Picking a spot randomly and settling down, the atmosphere inside the pub grew solemn as they entered, quieting down the noisy environnt significantly. "He was last with you, he left you just like that?"
"Yeah, Boss seed a bit strange, kept asking about a kid." Troy widened his eyes, and the pub grew noisy again, the sounds grew loud enough to overwhelm.
"A kid?"
"Yeah! About 1.7 ters tall, black hair, very cute! Round eyes, upturned nose, the left eyebrow raised when speaking, holding a lollipop, smiling with a crinkled nose." In Troy’s mind, the image of the child floated up; strangely, this little thing possessed an unforgettable allure.
"Rainbow?" Although Yelu Shou hadn’t seen it before, Troy’s description was nearly identical to rainbow.
"Who?" They all seed the sa, Troy tilted his head, and the person before him wore a similarly peculiar expression. "You and the boss are equally annoying, who is that child? The boss’s illegitimate child? Or yours?"
"Bullshit!" Yelu Shou bellowed, and imdiately several tables stood up with a bunch of people glaring nacingly, seemingly ready to charge.
"Sit down, what do you want?" Troy shouted back at them, truly a bunch of brainless guys; this was soone else’s turf. Still want to declare themselves as Sin City folks waiting to be caught or killed. "If you don’t say it, how would I know who that is?"
"Soone who’s already dead, what do you want to say?" Yelu Shou felt troubled, things were chaotic enough, why bring up this ss, Xiao Lin must be searching for the child. "Quickly tell where that child went last?"
"He went along with isai, I don’t know the specifics, but headed towards Caesar Street last." Troy’s mind wasn’t that fast, a bit slow in reaction. Only after Yelu Shou swiftly left the pub did he recall what was just said. "Dead? What do you an?" Chasing after Yelu Shou, Troy failed to find him in the street, so he turned back to the pub and called over a couple of people. "Go check who that child with isai is, why are so many people gathered here, go back to where you’re supposed to be, everyone disperse."
Caesar Street! A typical agricultural market area, with many small vendors, it’s a great flea market, where shops display textiles from various countries—quite characterful and worth exploring. The street artists here are nurous, most of them not for profit but purely dedicated to showcasing art. Many passersby stop to admire and toss a bit of money as a token of their appreciation.
Tang peeled open another lollipop and stuffed it into his mouth. He lived in a small room at the eastern end of Caesar Street, living alone quite comfortably, as the neighbors were attentive to this little kid.
Today he returned a bit late because there was an incident at the police station, so he had to wait until isai dealt with the matter and then take his fast-track ride to the nearest station, and walk back ho on his own.
At the entrance of Caesar Street, there is always a white-clad human sculpture placed there. Tang liked this faceless figure, posing a different model each day. Today, he portrayed an angel, but unfortunately, the angel’s wings were broken, with a red tear depicted beneath his left eye—visually impactful and present. "Today, are your wings broken?" Tang pointed at the broken wing lying on the ground, showing bone texture and blood strands, with excellent craftsmanship that could easily be mistaken as real.
The wingless figure rely blinked an eye and changed his posture, standing facing the Moon, his head held high, exposing his Adam’s apple, with a woeful gaze like accusing the Celestial God of injustice.
With a clink, a coin was tossed before him. "Is your daily transformation into a Demon? Your daily change in model but looking at it all at once looks like a story. I bet tomorrow, the angel will evolve into a demon because of being tainted. Haha, I only have a hundred bucks, all for you."
Tang muttered to himself, biting his lollipop while passing by this wingless angel. He needed to cross this street to go ho, and as he just passed, a shadow followed up.
Hiss hiss! Two silver lines shot from behind Xiao Lin, striking towards his left shoulder and right leg. Leaping airily, with a tiptoe flicking away a long silver needle onto the ground, with another needle held between two fingers. He glanced at the market, finally setting his sights on the human sculpture at the street entrance, a cold smile curling his lips. Though he seed unchanged, his finger’s direction altered—such a subtle change wouldn’t escape Xiao Lin’s eyes. Dropping the silver he held, between his fingers swelling up, blackness quickly spreading along his skin.
Xiao Lin lowered his hand, the blackness surged towards his fingertips, the poison expelled, leaving a trail as it dripped on the ground until his entire hand returned to its normal state. For this reason, he beca more suspicious of the identity of that kid.
"Tang! You’re back! Was today fun?" A tender voice sounded as Tang switched on the light, a little girl sitting on the bed, seeming like she had waited a long ti.
"Sofia, are you waiting for again today? Aunt Ruth will scold you." Tang adeptly started boiling water on the gas stove, grabbing two cups and placing tea leaves in them.
"She went to babysit today, but she’ll soon return, so I can’t stay long. Ah, don’t prepare tea, I’ll be leaving shortly."
"Alright then!" Tang poured the tea leaves back into the canister. "There was an explosion at the police station today, so I’m late!"
"Ah, are you okay?" Sofia jumped off the bed, looking Tang up and down.
"I’m quite clever, ran out as soon as I heard the explosion, but many were injured, seems like soone died, truly pitiable!"
"Tang, perhaps you shouldn’t work at the police station anymore. Ruth says she can find you a better job, you’re so adept with computers, should be able to find sowhere else." Sofia pointed at the room where, apart from a bed and cabinet, there was only a computer cobbled together with various parts and an array of specialized equipnt.
"But, these can’t put food on the table, plus it’s illegal." Tang blushed with embarrassnt; he easily reddened before Sofia.
"The police station’s too dangerous. Consider what I said, I don’t want to worry about you every day." Sofia spoke with maturity beyond her years. "Alright, I must go back now, or Ruth will really be mad. I’ll co see you tomorrow, the food’s already in the fridge, you can heat it yourself."
"Got it!" Tang extinguished the stove. A girl walking in the night was indeed perilous; this place was far from safe.
Sofia did not refuse Tang’s gesture of seeing her off. She greatly enjoyed the two walking down the street together. Their hos were quite close, round trip taking no more than ten minutes, yet she still relished this brief mont of space. (To be continued.
