As his brain went blank processing this reality, a sharp zzzt-zzzt sound echoed.
The inhibitor chip at the back of Otto's neck, responsible for controlling the chanical arms, began to spark violently from the previous overload. It was on the verge of burning out.
"Old ! Quick, help him strip those arms!" Neighbor #2 shouted urgently. In his own universe, he had fought Dr. Otto more than once and knew exactly how dangerous the man could beco.
"His inhibitor chip is damaged! If you don't force a separation now, it'll be too late! The AI in the tentacles will take over his mind.
It's irreversible! I tried helping him fix the chip several tis, but it always led to more problems. This is the only chance to solve the trouble once and for all!"
Anyone else might have hesitated, but as a transmigrator who knew the plot, Peter knew Neighbor #2 was telling the truth.
In a flash, Peter appeared behind Dr. Otto. He applied the power of the Horse Talisman directly to the four chanical arms, instantly repairing the inhibitor chip to a pristine state.
Dr. Otto, who had been suspended in the air by the arms, dropped to the floor, gasping for air. Even though it had only been a mont, he had felt the AI's cold intrusion into his mind.
Those horrific, negative emotions... he didn't dare imagine the evil being he would have beco if he had succumbed.
Coming to his senses, Otto looked up at Peter in his Wizard form, his eyes brimming with gratitude. "Arbiter, sir... thank you for your help. If not for you... I can't imagine what would have happened!"
Because of Peter's tily intervention and the purifying effect of the Horse Talisman, Dr. Otto had been completely cleansed.
He remained the kind-hearted, top-tier scientist dedicated to benefiting humanity—unlikely to ever beco the notorious supervillain of Peter's mories.
Peter didn't stand on ceremony. "Doctor, go dismantle that nuke. Tony Stark is already miles ahead of you on this path. And honestly, if there's a next ti, I might not be able to show up on the dot to wipe your ass."
Otto's face flushed red and then turned pale. He opened his mouth to argue, but looking at the "Artificial Sun" that had nearly killed him, he swallowed his pride. "...You're right. Perhaps I should change my research project."
He let out a bitter laugh. This project had drained all his funding. To abandon years of research and start sothing new... where would the money co from?
Just as Otto was spiraling into gloom, Peter extended an olive branch. "If you're worried about funding, feel free to call Parker Technologies. Trust , you'll shine there."
"Parker Technologies?" Otto had heard the na. "But don't they make phones and new batteries? That's not my field. I'm afraid..."
"There is no 'afraid.' Parker Tech will put you to good use." Peter removed his helt, offering a warm smile. "Because I'm the owner. If I say you're the man for the job, you are."
There was no reason to hesitate. Otto looked at Peter in shock, then nodded enthusiastically.
Doctor Octopus—acquired!
"Sorted." Peter brushed off his hands and looked back at Neighbor #1 and #2. "Well? Is the 'Canon Event' over?"
The two Neighbors looked down at their wristbands. Sure enough, the devices were flashing a piercing red light.
[WARNING: CANON EVENT INTERRUPTION DETECTED!]
"It's definitely over!" Neighbor #1 shouted excitedly. "Nothing happened! Maybe you really were right!"
Neighbor #2 was more cautious. "It might be too early to conclude. I say we observe a bit longer..."
He had barely finished the sentence when—
VROOM—!!!
An eerie spatial vibration erged without warning! In the Spider-Senses of Gwen and the two Neighbors, the air distorted violently. Dozens of high-tech, hexagonal portals tore open in the air!
In the next second, a dense crowd of figures sward out.
At the lead was a tall, muscular man in a high-tech black-and-red suit. The red skull-spider totem on his chest looked particularly fierce.
It was the leader of the Spider-Society: Miguel O'Hara, Spider-Man 2099.
Behind him, hundreds of Spiders from various parallel universes stepped out, their eyes fixed intently on the group in the center. The underground space was instantly saturated with a murderous atmosphere.
"1048, 986... you've disappointed ."
Miguel looked at the two Neighbors, the numbers he spoke representing their respective universes. "It seems you aren't qualified to be part of the Spider-Verse after all."
"Mr. Miguel, listen to !" Neighbor #1 stepped forward. "It's not what you think! This 'Old '—I an, Peter—he solved the crisis! And the universe hasn't—"
"Shut up!" Miguel cut him off brutally, his voice icy. "The collapse of a universe has a delay. If we wait any longer, it will be too late!"
His gaze finally landed on Peter, who stood composed in the center of the room. Miguel looked at him as if he were a heinous criminal.
"It looks like you're the anomaly I was worried about. I underestimated you before. In that case... this ti, I'll correct this trouble myself!"
