Chapter 136. Falling into the Trap, the Grand Elder of Dragon Island Arrives to Save the Day
Over the next few days, the Silver Oakleaf Kingdom began moving in a strangely suspicious way.
A secret report from the Shadow Guard claid that three Domain-Level Powerhouses from that kingdom had quietly slipped into the region occupied by the Hydra. After that, they vanished without a trace.
“What are they trying to do?”
William frowned at the map and tapped heavily on the territory of the Silver Oakleaf Kingdom with his fingertip.
For the past several years, they had never been attacked by the Hydra. Yet now they had suddenly interfered. Could it be that they were going to support the Hydra Clan? Human traitors?
On the morning of the third day, William was cultivating Dou Qi. Just as the Golden Dou Qi within his body began to circulate, a deafening explosion suddenly rang out in the distance, and even the earth seed to tremble with it.
He snapped his eyes open and shot out of the room like an arrow loosed from a bow. After a few leaps, he was already standing atop the city wall.
The distant skyline was shrouded in thick black clouds, with flashes of lightning churning faintly within them. The air carried a stench mixed with blood and scorched flesh.
Several Legendary Combatants stationed at Iron Skull Fortress also rushed over. Aganzo, his hair and beard completely white, stared at the disturbed sky with a grave expression.
“These are the fluctuations of Domain-Level Powerhouses fighting. And… the commotion is enormous.”
Before he had even finished speaking, a shrill dragon cry tore across the sky, carrying the mournful note of sothing on the verge of death.
Darwin, who was standing below the wall, suddenly lifted his head. Sorrow flashed through his golden vertical pupils, and he imdiately answered with a thunderous Dragon’s Roar.
Aganzo’s face changed dramatically.
“That is the aura of a Domain Dragon Rider… one has fallen.”
Darwin scraped anxiously at the ground with his foreclaws. His enormous wings battered the air, and his eyes remained locked on the black-clouded horizon. When he turned to William, his gaze was filled with urgent pleading.
He wanted to go there. He wanted to bring back the corpse of that fallen dragon.
To dragonkind, the remains of their own kind could never be allowed to beco nourishnt for the Hydra.
William was silent for a mont. Then he drew a deep breath and leapt onto the dragon’s back.
“Grandpa Aganzo, continue guarding the fortress. I’m going to take a look.”
“Your Highness, you must not.”
A Legendary Knight hurriedly tried to stop him.
“That is the Hydra’s nest. It must be in complete chaos right now. It is far too dangerous.”
“That’s right, Your Highness. There’s no need to risk your life for a dragon corpse.”
William pressed a hand against Darwin’s dragon horn, his gaze calm and steady.
“Carry out the order,” he said. After a pause, he added, “I have the Dragon Scale of the Grand Elder of Dragon Island. I’ll be fine.”
With that, he patted Darwin’s neck.
The giant dragon let out a deep roar. Its wings spread wide, whipping up fierce winds as it carried him toward the black clouds at breakneck speed.
The wind howled past William’s ears. He pulled out the Dragon Scale pendant hanging at his chest and infused it with mana. The warm scale imdiately lit up with a faint golden glow, and a pressure belonging to the Grand Elder of Dragon Island quietly spread out.
Darwin was incredibly fast, and the distant explosions and dragon cries beca clearer and clearer.
William narrowed his eyes and looked down at the ruins below, where countless snakes coiled and sward. Alarm bells rang wildly in his heart.
This all-out offensive launched by the three kingdoms seed to have been racing toward complete disaster from the very beginning.
Darwin’s massive wings tore through the clouds and carried William down in a dive, stopping above the broken walls and ruins outside Magic Serpent Fortress.
The scene below was even more horrific than he had imagined.
The fortress walls of old had long since been covered by snake scales and bones. Hundreds upon thousands of Hydra slithered through the ruins, their scarlet eyes gleaming with bloodthirsty light. The stench filling the air was so thick it was almost suffocating.
In the sky not far away, both sides were confronting each other in an eerie standoff.
On one side were the Dragon Riders of the Dragon Kingdom, four Rune Dwarves from the Dwarf Kingdom, and three Archmages from the Kadiya Kingdom. On the other side, three Domain-Level Powerhouses from the Silver Oakleaf Kingdom were actually standing shoulder to shoulder with six enormous Domain-Level Hydra.
“You people of Silver Oakleaf dare collude with the Hydra? Aren’t you afraid of bringing about the destruction of your kingdom?”
Mana surged around one of Kadiya’s Archmages.
“The destruction of our kingdom?”
The leader of Silver Oakleaf was an old man clad in dark golden armor, and he sneered coldly.
“Once all of you are dead, who would know that it was our Silver Oakleaf Kingdom that did it?”
“Ahhhh! You killed my elder brother! I’ll make you pay with your lives!”
Another Domain-Level Powerhouse from the Dragon Kingdom looked as if he had gone mad. The giant dragon beneath him condensed a massive Dragon Breath and hurled it straight at Silver Oakleaf’s people.
The Dragon Breath collided with the other side’s magic shield and erupted into a deafening blast. The shockwave sent the surrounding rubble flying.
At that mont, the six Domain-Level Hydra suddenly raised their heads. All nine heads opened their jaws at once, spraying torrents of dark green venom toward the forces of the three kingdoms like a violent storm.
At the sa ti, they unfurled their winged bodies and rose into the air. Together with Silver Oakleaf’s three Domain-Level Powerhouses, they ford a pincer formation that completely surrounded the experts of the three kingdoms.
The old man from Silver Oakleaf swept his gaze over the Dragon Riders of the Dragon Kingdom, and a trace of smugness flashed through his eyes.
“I didn’t expect Dragon Kingdom to have been hiding two Domain Dragon Riders. I underestimated you. Fortunately, our ambush succeeded and we got rid of one. Otherwise…”
He glanced at the Hydra beside him.
“…your combined forces really might have wiped out the Hydra Clan.”
So that was it. William crouched low on Darwin’s back, and his heart sank sharply.
The Silver Oakleaf Kingdom had long since colluded with the Hydra. They had first used an ambush to eliminate one Dragon Rider, then planned to use the Hydra’s strength to slaughter the remaining experts of the three kingdoms and reap the benefits as the fisherman in the end.
Fury burned in Darwin’s dragon eyes. If not for William restraining him, he likely would have charged down already.
The battle below beca increasingly brutal. One of the Dwarves at the Domain level, while trying to cover his companions, was drenched in venom from three Hydra and instantly lted into a puddle of pus.
When the other Dwarf Domain-Level Powerhouses saw their companion reduced to pus, their eyes turned blood-red. Raising their giant axes, they charged straight into the mass of Hydra.
They paid no heed to their own defense. Every strike carried the ferocity of mutual destruction.
The dark green venom splashed onto their runic armor, sizzling as it corroded deep pits into the surface, yet it did nothing to slow their advance.
At that mont, an old and resonant voice suddenly rang out beside William’s ear, carrying a tremor like dragon breath itself.
“Little fellow, I have arrived. I was delayed by a few matters on the way.”
Joy surged through William’s heart, and the taut tension in his nerves finally eased. The Grand Elder of Dragon Island had finally arrived.
At that mont, everyone in the chaotic lee abruptly stopped fighting and looked toward the sky in horror.
A fissure opened in the clouds, and a golden giant dragon far larger than Darwin slowly descended. Its scales shimred with a sacred luster beneath the sunlight, and its nine dragon whiskers drifted without wind. It was none other than the Grand Elder of Dragon Island.
His gaze swept across the battlefield, and his voice bood with majestic authority.
“Heh. You dared kill one of my dragonkind. You are courting death.”
The old man from Silver Oakleaf paled at once and instinctively took a step back. The aura of the Grand Elder of Dragon Island was simply too terrifying. Even the Hydra beside him twisted uneasily and did not dare et his eyes.
The Grand Elder suddenly opened his mouth, and a stream of golden Dragon Breath poured down like a waterfall. It swept past the edge of the three kingdoms’ group and instantly burned three Hydra that had been trying to flee into blackened charcoal.
The sll of scorched flesh spread through the air. The remaining three Hydra and the Domain-Level Powerhouses of Silver Oakleaf all changed expression, no longer daring to act rashly.
“Why are you still standing there? Get lost already,” the Grand Elder urged impatiently.
The experts of the three kingdoms exchanged glances. Though unwilling, they all knew this was their only chance to survive.
Under the protection of the dragon’s might, they staggered away in retreat, heading as fast as they could away from Magic Serpent Fortress.
William lay on Darwin’s back and watched the scene unfold, finally letting out a sigh of relief.
He looked at the golden giant dragon and could not help grumbling inwardly. This Grand Elder really had arrived quite late, but that presence of his was genuinely domineering.
The Grand Elder seed to sense his gaze and turned his head slightly. A trace of amusent flashed through his dragon eyes.
“Little fellow, stop muttering. If I hadn’t run into those bastards from the Ancient Council on the way, I would have arrived long ago.”
He shook his enormous head. With a shift of his gaze, the corpse of the dead Domain giant dragon was taken away by the Grand Elder.
At that mont, a heavenly angel abruptly appeared above everyone in the sky.
