Han Yu decided not to prolong this fight. The mont it started, he went straight in.
WHAM!
A punch to the stomach.
BAM!
A swift strike to the ribs.
Before his opponent even realized what was happening—
CRACK!
Han Yu delivered a precise kick that sent him sprawling onto the ground like a sack of potatoes.
The fight lasted barely over a minute.
The supervising disciple blinked. "Uh... Winner, Han Yu."
Han Yu dusted his hands off. "Well, that was even easier."
He walked out of the ring, grinning. "Haha! This will be a piece of cake if all of them are like this."
From the sidelines, Xu Qing sighed. "This guy is a nace."
She looked at the other recruits, who were glaring at Han Yu with resentnt. It was the sa as rubbing salt into their wounds—especially for those who had already lost. So were being tended to by the outer court disciples, while others had miraculously recovered thanks to the sect's high-quality dicine.
Still, even if they were healed, their defeat ant slim chances of being selected. Their only hope was impressing the elders enough to be considered for an exception.
"The Fourth Round will begin in thirty minutes," Elder Nie Jing announced, granting them a longer rest.
"Oh, thank the heavens!"
"We get more ti to recover!"
"Where's water? I need water!"
"Can I have so snacks? I'm starving!"
"I'm hungry too!"
Being children, they got hungry fast. Thankfully, the sect wasn't cruel enough to let them starve, and food was distributed.
Han Yu, naturally, joined in. He wasn't particularly hungry, but he was curious about the quality of the sect's food.
"What's this?" Han Yu asked, inspecting a small, compact ball in his hand.
"A Grain Pill. The basic kind," Xu Qing answered. "It's a tier lower than the ones given to outer court disciples. No spirit grains in it."
"Ah." Han Yu examined the mixture of cooked grains and so starchy binder. "Well, let's see how it tastes."
He took a bite. Instantly, a deep frown appeared on his face.
"How do you ss up simple grains?! Why does this taste like raw barley husk dipped in disappointnt?" Han Yu grimaced.
"Because that's what it is," Xu Qing said nonchalantly.
"Ugh... If this is the standard of food here, I'm dood. Don't they know food nourishes the soul as much as the body?" Han Yu lanted.
"Don't eat it, then." Xu Qing smirked.
"I'll just finish this. My dried at is leagues better anyway." Han Yu muttered, forcing the rest of the grain pill down.
Before long, it was ti for the fourth round.
SHUA
More rings were set up, but sothing was off.
"Twenty-eight?" Han Yu counted. "Shouldn't there be thirty-one?"
"So recruits are too injured to continue, so they're disqualified," Xu Qing explained.
"Ah, makes sense." Han Yu nodded.
"Recruits Han Yu and Xiao Si, enter the ring," a disciple called.
Hearing the na, Han Yu paused. It sounded familiar.
He looked at his opponent—a lean, determined-looking boy—and had to ask, "Hey, by any chance, do you have three brothers nad Xiao Yi, Er, and San?"
"I do. How do you know?" Xiao Si blinked in surprise.
"Are you from Yuzeng City?" Han Yu asked next.
"No, I'm from Flat Hat Town."
"Huh... Guess I was mistaken." Han Yu scratched his head but thought differently. 'Do more people na their kids with numbers than I thought? And what's up with the town's na?'
"Begin!" the disciple ordered, snapping Han Yu back to focus.
"This won't take long." Han Yu muttered as he charged forward.
He launched a wide hook—
THUD
The punch landed on Xiao Si's arm.
Han Yu smirked. "Hah."
But then—
BAM!
Xiao Si's counterpunch struck Han Yu square in the chest.
"Ugh!" Han Yu staggered back, more out of surprise than pain.
"I'm not as weak as the ones you fought before," Xiao Si declared, standing firm.
Han Yu rubbed his chest, then grinned. "I see... Well, it's about ti I faced soone worthy." His eyes glead. "I guess I can finally let loose."
Xiao Si frowned. 'He couldn't have been holding back, could he?'
Before he could think further, Han Yu attacked again.
SHUA
This ti, his Vital Energy surged to his arm, amplifying his strength.
THUD
A jab struck Xiao Si's chin.
The boy saw stars instantly. 'Did I just get hit by a war hamr?!'
THUD
Xiao Si collapsed like a felled tree.
"Han Yu wins!" the disciple announced.
Han Yu strutted out of the ring. "Just as expected."
Xu Qing crossed her arms. "You're getting careless."
"It was just one hit," Han Yu said, brushing it off. He turned his attention to the other fights, which were getting more intense.
The fourth round ended in just five minutes. Most recruits were too exhausted to put up a fight, even with food and water provided.
After another thirty-minute break, the fifth round began.
CLAP
The rings reford, but sothing caught Han Yu's eye.
"Wait... just ten?" He blinked in surprise.
It was far lower than he had expected.
"Shouldn't there have been fourteen or at least twelve?" Han Yu said as he took a look around.
It was then that he finally understood.
"Damn, even more are unable to fight." He saw a lot of tired disciples with bruises.
There were even a couple that had broken bones, holding their hands in a sling or their leg in a cast.
Though it was unknown whether it was due to their opponents strength or just the fact that they had stumbled and fallen, breaking it that way.
"Begin the Fifth Round!" Elder Nie Jing announced and the children reorganized.
Han Yu t his fifth opponent whose looks almost made him laugh.
'What the hell did his parents feed him? Why does he look like a monkey?' Han Yu wondered.
The boy was thin and sallow, having slender skinny limbs. He was even hunching a bit like how a monkey would.
