"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!" The snipers in the team began to unleash their fury, incendiary bombs whistled away, and those hit were instantly set ablaze, running around wildly, emitting heart-wrenching screams that seed to carry despair and resentnt, echoing far into the night, making the wooded area especially terrifying, oblivious to the fact that they illuminated their surroundings and exposed their comrades.
More people evaded the attack of incendiary bombs, but the incendiary bombs hit the trees behind the targets, the flammable agent exploded, igniting the dead leaves and shrubs on the ground, creating bright light, and the surrounding enemies were exposed. The allied forces quickly scattered to dodge, but it was too late. The machine guns began to roar, bullets filled with endless killing intent, charged forward with the soldiers' anger, piercing through all obstructing trees and people, slaughtering them to the ground.
Suddenly, more gunshots rang out, from a commanding height, with a broad view, and everyone hid in the trenches, creating certain blind spots, the enemies coming down the slope couldn't see them at all. Taking full advantage of this geographical advantage, they freely fired, knocking down a large number of enemies attempting to charge up.
Luo Zheng saw this scene and beca even more puzzled. If the battle continued like this, as long as everyone had enough ammunition, they wouldn't fear however many enemies ca. Why then did the allied forces risk launching a nightti attack? Soon, Luo Zheng discovered that the enemy began to retreat, startling him and making him even more perplexed.
The allied forces retreated very quickly and decisively, soon disappearing, leaving Luo Zheng dumbfounded, as the earpiece sounded with the order from Scholar to send a small group down to clean up the battlefield and collect weapons. The enemy retreated quickly, leaving many corpses and weapons on the ground, best to retrieve them under the cover of night, as dayti would expose them to sniper fire.
At this ti, the enemies on the other side also started retreating. Lan Xue, via the earpiece, inquired if they should pursue. Luo Zheng, unsure of what the enemy was up to, dared not let everyone pursue, coldly observing the forest ahead, lost in thought. Suddenly, Luo Zheng had a bit of an epiphany.
The reason the enemy attacked at night was that they feared the construction of trenches and other defensive positions. The last ti they fought the allied forces, they set many traps, even using an improvised virus made from excrent. This forced the allied forces to split their troops and take the wounded back first, giving Luo Zheng the chance to defeat the formidable enemy using a superior force.
This ti, even though the allied forces had them trapped on the mountain, they feared a repeat of past tactics, thus launched a nightti attack. In the dark, visibility in the forest was very low. The allied forces, hiding at a distance to exchange fire, did not know trenches had been dug. By the ti they charged, it was too late, leaving a field of corpses in their hasty retreat.
Understanding these points made Luo Zheng feel frustrated. Had he known this, he should have organized a pursuit to capitalize on the victory. Opportunities in battle are fleeting, and regretting missed chances is futile. Luo Zheng composed himself and saw Hook approaching excitedly, with his arm stained red with blood, which startled him. He asked concernedly, "Are you alright?"
"It's nothing, just a scratch, didn't hit any blood vessels," Hook indifferently replied. "These bastards actually fled, what could this an?"
Luo Zheng did not explain but instead took out a dical kit from his backpack, used the Tiger Teeth knife to cut open Hook's sleeve, and after stopping the bleeding and bandaging, he greeted Lan Xue, Ghost Hand, and Mountain Eagle as they approached. At this ti, Scholar, Gardener, Monk, and Farr also ca over. Everyone gathered in the trench and sat down.
"Everyone's here, perfect." Luo Zheng recounted the conclusions he'd reached earlier and then added, "Judging by the enemies attacking from the front, their total force is no less than three hundred people. As for how many are at the foot of the hill, it's unknown. On the other side, how many approximately?" he asked, looking at Lan Xue.
"No less than a hundred people, but details are unclear; it's too dark to see clearly. We killed and wounded about thirty," Lan Xue replied, looking Luo Zheng up and down with concern, noticing his pale complexion and realizing his internal injury had worsened, feeling worried inside.
"So, in total, there's about four hundred enemies, considering those hiding at the foot of the mountain who didn't yet engage, that's another hundred. Conservatively estimated, there are five hundred of them. In the recent battle, we killed nearly a hundred, aning there are still no less than four hundred enemies. When daylight cos, there will surely be a fierce battle. With six or seven hours until dawn, we must make so preparations."
"The usual: set up traps and use all our button bombs; also collect everyone's excrent for use," Ghost Hand imdiately suggested.
"But after continuous combat, our button bombs are nearly depleted," Luo Zheng said worriedly.
"Isn't it the size of a button, sothing like a button?" Scholar asked, puzzled.
"Right, how do you know?" Luo Zheng asked in surprise. Button bombs have not been widely issued to the Special Forces, mainly limited to the National Blade Team.
"When we ca, they gave each of us a package of sothing we didn't know, only ntioned it was a weapon and to ask you how to use it when the ti cos. With the rush into combat, it was forgotten, that thing is a bomb?" Scholar asked in surprise, opening his backpack and taking out a tal box from the bottom fearfully, handing it to Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng took it, opened it, and sure enough, it was button bombs, with about twenty per box. He couldn't help but smile, and said, "Don't worry about anything now, taking them out at this mont is perfect. Does everyone have them?"
"Yes, they're divided among us, each with a box," Scholar quickly said.
Luo Zheng looked at Gardener, Farr, and Monk, who nodded affirmatively, also taking out similar tal boxes from their backpacks. Luo Zheng was elated, saying, "Heavens do not forsake us. I believe you aren't yet aware of how to use them? No worry, Mountain Eagle, have your n teach everyone how to use them later."
"Yes," Mountain Eagle, eyes glowing with excitent, eagerly agreed.
"There were originally a hundred and fifty of you when you ca out of the valley; so were sacrificed along the way, but none were left behind, so the things are all here. Everyone has twenty, totaling three thousand, enough to turn this place into a minefield. Use a thousand now and save the rest; with that, the defense problem is solved. Next is the food issue; anyone have good suggestions?" Luo Zheng said, looking at everyone.
This ti they left in haste, without carrying any rations. Running around the mountain isn't a worry, as food could be found everywhere, but being trapped on this mountain was different. Everyone understood the severity of this problem; running out of bullets could be solved by grabbing so, at worst engaging the enemy in hand-to-hand combat, but fighting on an empty stomach?
No one could think of a better solution, all looking at Hook. Hook had a sudden idea and said, "I have a way to solve this, no need for everyone to worry."
Everyone was shocked, all eyes turned to Hook. This mountain has nothing edible, surrounded by formidable enemies below, how could he have a thod to get food? Everyone beca curious.
