The night deepened, and moonlight poured in through the window, gently spilling onto the floor of the hospital room, creating a sense of tranquility and harmony. Luo Zheng and Lan Xue cuddled together on the sofa watching TV, quietly enjoying their world of two. This rare peace after the war made them feel both grounded and real, as the negative emotions from battle and killing gradually faded away. No one knew when the next mission would be, whether they would survive it. The rare chance made them cherish these calm days all the more, living in quiet enjoynt.
Ti gradually slipped by, it was already the deep of night. As drowsiness enveloped him, Luo Zheng realized Lan Xue had already fallen asleep. He gently placed her on the sofa, worried that moving her might injure her wound, and let Lan Xue sleep on the sofa. He brought a blanket to cover her, drew the curtains, and sat quietly beside her, fearing she might accidentally roll off. Unworried, he moved the coffee table to block Lan Xue from rolling over.
These relaxing days made Luo Zheng feel at ease, and unknowingly he also fell asleep. In a half-dream state, he did not know how much ti passed, when suddenly he seed to hear gunshots, and Luo Zheng's combat instincts activated instantly. He abruptly opened his eyes, a sharp light shining out, and instinctively reached for the pistol he kept nearby, raising his ears alertly like a wary fierce beast, his gaze turning cold and watching his surroundings.
"Poof! Poof!" Two more gunshots echoed, and Luo Zheng heard them clearly. They were from a silenced pistol; although the sound was very faint, in the silent night and at close range, Luo Zheng would not misjudge it. He realized the sound ca from the bedroom window and reacted imdiately, cautiously feeling his way over.
Soon, Luo Zheng saw a black shadow flash past the window and disappear. With a swift action, he rushed over to peek outside, discovering a shadowy figure rapidly descending, hanging onto a rope. The intruder was rappelling down from the building, leaving quickly after the attack.
"Bastard," Luo Zheng swore angrily, raising his hand to fire a triple burst. However, the opponent had already landed, rolling to dissolve the impact and neatly avoiding Luo Zheng's shots. Luo Zheng swiftly aid but found it hard to lock onto the opponent's fast-moving silhouette. Even so, he fired to indicate the direction for his ambushed comrades on alert nearby.
The gunshots were a command, and nurous guards erged around them, wielding flashlights and guns, with hounds. They were prepared for a fierce battle, and this sight made Luo Zheng breathe a sigh of relief. Shadow's rapid response deploynt was indeed effective; with such a large array, if the opponent still escaped, there was nothing more that could be done.
"What happened?" Lan Xue's voice suddenly echoed from behind.
Luo Zheng didn't answer imdiately but instead turned on the room lights. He found several bullet holes on the bed and was shocked. He secretly rejoiced—if not for Lan Xue falling asleep on the sofa or worrying that moving her might aggravate her wound, staying on the sofa, they might have ended up as corpses by now.
Lan Xue also noticed the situation, a fear swelling within her. Concerned, she asked, "Are you okay?"
"I'm alright. The two of us are truly blessed, escaping calamity. The opponent is a master, bypassing the surrounding reconnaissance, rappelling from the rooftop to the window, firing to assassinate. If I hadn't heard the gunshots, the opponent might have left leisurely. How did the killer evade reconnaissance?" Luo Zheng spoke gravely.
"Let's look at the surveillance later," Lan Xue advised fearfully. The enemy infiltrated silently and attacked unnoticeably. If they hadn't slept on the sofa, both would have been assassinated; no one could have discovered the killer. It was indeed frightening.
Luo Zheng opened the living room lights, hearing knocking—it was Ghost Hand and Mountain Eagle calling at the door. Luo Zheng opened it to find their faces grave, signaling them to enter and speak. Closing the door behind him, he asked, "What's going on?"
"Are you alright?" Ghost Hand and Mountain Eagle carefully examined the couple. Seeing them unhard, they both sighed with relief. Ghost Hand continued, "The killer is formidable, exceptionally fast, and broke through the encirclent. Shadow has taken people to pursue them, leaving the two of us here to help."
"Huh?" Luo Zheng hadn't expected the opponent to break through the encirclent. There were at least thirty or more encircling, with hounds, most of them his and Shadow's people, all highly skilled. How had the opponent broken through? Luo Zheng looked at Ghost Hand suspiciously, then suddenly considered a possibility, saying, "The opponent might be Shijing Ye. Master Liu Yun's speed is terrifying, as we've all witnessed. As a disciple, Shijing Ye's speed shouldn't be slow."
"Shadow has gone after them; there shouldn't be a problem," Mountain Eagle said nearby.
"Not necessarily. Though Shadow killed Liu Yun, Liu Yun was heavily injured and holding on. That doesn't an Shadow could easily defeat Liu Yun. Shijing Ye's capabilities are similar to Liu Yun's, and being young and in the pri of life, their strength may be comparable to Shadow's. It'd be a fierce battle for sure; what a pity we can't witness it," Luo Zheng said with so regret.
"It shouldn't be too hard. Let's go to the security room and see if we can access the surveillance or satellite," Lan Xue suggested, looking at Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng thought it over, finding it feasible, so he agreed. They soon reached the security room, seeing Lan Xing and another young man fiddling with a computer. Luo Zheng guessed he was Shadow's intelligence officer, similar in role to Lan Xing. Nodding to Hong ihua and Ye Laixiang, Luo Zheng asked, "What's the situation now?"
Ye Laixiang, having received a lifesaving grace from Luo Zheng, had a good impression of him, and with a slight smile, said, "Heard you got injured, are you okay? Shadow has gone in pursuit. Here, have a look." She pointed to a computer screen, where Shadow led a team into a park.
The park was dense with woods, dark and unclear. Luo Zheng observed for a few monts. Due to insufficient surveillance, many areas of the park were not visible, and tracking the murderer would rely solely on Shadow. Luo Zheng's expression darkened, and he pressed, "What about the satellite?"
"The satellite just left this area, redirecting it will take fifteen minutes," Lan Xing replied.
"Seems the opponent had calculated this, with no satellite and no surveillance, unable to provide valuable intelligence support, letting the killer escape easily," Luo Zheng worriedly reminded.
"Any good suggestions?" Hong ihua asked on the side.
Luo Zheng didn't imdiately answer Hong ihua, but with a serious look, continued to ask, "The killer is a master. Without intelligence, Shadow's team might struggle to find them. Is there any reinforcent going in?"
"Relax, the police are on standby, they're already heading out. Within three minutes, they can encircle the park. He can't escape," Ye Laixiang confidently assured, suddenly her face drastically changed, speechless in shock.
