The night was deep, clouds obscured the moon, and no wind blew.
In the pitch-black woods, a bonfire was kindled, causing unnad wild birds to fly away in alarm. Even the chirping crickets fell silent, curiously watching the fire grow stronger, daring ones hopped up to have a look, perhaps feeling a strong aura of bloodthirsty nace, they flew away in panic.
By the bonfire, a group of wounded sat together, Ghost Hand opened the cara on his helt, shining a flashlight on one person, speaking in as calm a tone as possible, "Hi, we are the Huaxia Country Military, there are so questions we hope you can answer truthfully. What is your na? Where are you from? What do you do? Why were you imprisoned?" The helt cara had storage function and could transmit signals via satellite, Lan Xing could receive them.
Everyone wasn't stupid, realizing the intent was to verify identities, they hesitated before speaking, the first person Ghost Hand asked responded without much thought, lazily admitting their identity and reason for capture. They turned out to be an intelligence officer collecting information in a border village, betrayed by villagers, arrested on charges of espionage, imprisoned for over a year, and now finally released.
Ghost Hand didn't expect an ally, hesitated briefly, not in a hurry to ask the next question, waiting for Lan Xing's confirmation. Lan Xing quickly found the relevant files based on the identity information provided, compared photos and identity verification codes, everything matched perfectly.
The situation was quickly relayed back to Ghost Hand, who imdiately had allies assist with wound treatnt, handed out rations and water to the individual. Intelligence work at the border was extrely tough and dangerous, not only requiring the traversing of many mountain roads and villages but also caution against danger. After all, it was within the neighboring country's territory, no matter how well one disguised, it was easy to get exposed. Yet, the contributions of such people were indelible, worthy of respect.
Ghost Hand continued asking one by one; anwhile, Luo Zheng was lurking behind a vine-covered boulder at the mouth of the canyon making battle preparations. Results of the inquiries ca through the earpiece public channel, surprising Luo Zheng, yet he felt a bit fortunate, grateful for rescuing many behind-the-scenes heroes.
"The enemy is coming." Snow Leopard's voice resounded in his ears.
Luo Zheng rose, mounted the sniper rifle on the boulder, peering through the sniper scope, indeed detecting flashlights shimring within the woods about two hundred ters ahead, quite a number of them. Perhaps sensing the danger at the canyon's mouth, they stopped. Luo Zheng raised his head, surveyed the surroundings, softly said, "Brothers, have the individual trenches been dug?"
"Yes." Everyone replied quietly.
"Good, we must ambush the enemy overnight, preferably inflict pain before retreating. Be prepared, aim before firing, make the Button Bombs ready for tossing." Luo Zheng lowered his voice, the Button Bombs were too small, couldn't be thrown far, had to be attached to stones or such to be thrown a distance, requiring preparation, everyone quietly agreed.
"Should we split so manpower to assist?" Ghost Hand's voice echoed in the earpiece.
"No need, complete bandaging and counting quickly, be ready to withdraw anyti." Luo Zheng whispered, everyone had night vision devices, holding an advantage in ambush during the night. Once it was daylight, enemies swarming everywhere, perhaps helicopters joining the battle, there would be no chance to fight.
Luo Zheng reckoned the enemy lacked equipnt, no night vision, couldn't unleash full combat power, helicopters not equipped with thermal imaging; coming at night was futile. Yet this equipnt wasn't simple, not for ordinary helicopters, Yue's economic strength was average, border militaries were usually equipped likewise. Luo Zheng betted their helicopter lacked this function, otherwise who would dare to ambush in this canyon?
Observing the enemy preparing to advance, Luo Zheng smiled, knowing he betted correctly. If the helicopter had thermal imaging, it would have bombed already. Witnessing the enemy drawing closer, Luo Zheng's eyes exploded with chilling battle spirit, swiftly chambered a bullet, shouting, "Brothers, shoot only, kill!"
"Kill!" Everyone roared, all trained elite Soldier Kings, needing no command, instinctively knew how to conduct this ambush to effectively eliminate the enemy.
Suddenly, gunfire rang, bullets whizzing emitted a deathly aura, viciously heading towards the woods outside the canyon. Then, countless screams echoed, the re two hundred ters were no challenge for those equipped with sniper scopes.
Luo Zheng didn't fire but sought to find an officer; such border forces had limited fighting power, eliminating officers could stir panic. But after finally spotting an officer-like figure, before firing, saw their head being sniped, incapable of survival.
The enemy's shooting accuracy might not be high but was executed insanely, entirely fearless, ferocious barrage swept out, forming a daunting bullet curtain, intimidatingly potent. Thankfully, everyone had prepared, dug individual trenches, bodies concealed inside, dispersed widely, hence no fear.
Over thirty charging enemies were gunned down, enemies paused for several minutes, more rushed forth, spread wider, swiftly running within wooded areas, evidently adept at jungle warfare, everyone rose to the valorous occasion, continuing to execute pinpoint shots at advancing foes.
"Bang bang bang—" Silent gunshots intertwined above the woods, bullets danced, flas flickered, the whole woodland overhead seed distorted, collapsing by gunfire. Luo Zheng didn't expect such resolute enemy charging, surprised seeing the fearless foes rush up, was incited too, quickly commanded, "Incendiary Bombs!"
"Understood." All snipers calmly responded, promptly switched ammunition.
Soon, countless incendiary bombs blazed brightly, screaming through the air like Death God cackling, downing targets one by one, igniting, the surrounding woods illuminated brighter, exposing more enemies to gunfire. Targets hit by incendiary bombs emitted chilling screams, this desperate cry near death was mind-breaking.
The attacking troops comnced panic, advance slowed involuntarily a bit, everyone seized the chance, another round of incendiary bombs flung, more struck down, ignited, rolling on the ground, agonizing cries spread like plague swiftly, enemies glanced at each other, morale shaken.
The canyon's mouth was narrow, unable for flanking on both sides, limited entrants couldn't impose absolute firepower suppression, everyone positioned behind cover fought adeptly. Luo Zheng watched enemies start retreating but didn't feel a trace of excitent. Just frenzied attacking, now saying retreat, surely a plot! His face turned grim, he softly shouted, "Brothers, conceal well, beware enemy trickery, hillside snipers observe carefully."
