The sun was shining brightly, with a gentle breeze and no clouds in the sky. On a dense hillside, a troop of over three hundred soldiers with stern faces were weaving through the forest. Half an hour ago, the top figure beside the Yue Country President had visited a missile base for an inspection. The missile base was attacked, leaving the President deeply concerned, hence sending a guard battalion of over three hundred seasoned and battle-hardened veterans to escort one person to the missile base. Normally, such an escort mission would be easy given their scale—who dares to provoke them?
But soone did tempt fate, placing bombs along the way and blowing up three cars and two trucks in an instant, causing nurous casualties. The President's top aide was killed on the spot, which enraged the entire guard battalion; snatching prey from a tiger's mouth—how audacious!
The guard battalion launched a desperate counterattack imdiately; then a more bizarre scene unfolded—the enemy fled silently. It took them more than ten minutes to find clues, and after a relentless pursuit, they finally found the culprits. They chased them all the way here, but the trail had gone cold again.
"Everyone, halt!" The battalion commander, with a grim expression, gestured for the troops to stop, his palms sweating as he gripped his gun. If the enemy successfully escapes, his career as a battalion commander would be over, and he wouldn't be able to keep his own life.
"Commander, judging by the traces on the ground, it seems they moved ahead," a scout reported as he jogged up.
"Seems? Can't you be certain?" Enraged, the commander kicked the scout to the ground and barked, "Move forward and keep searching. If you don't find them, I don't need to tell you the consequences—go!"
"Yes." Everyone responded in unison and rushed forward, quickly disappearing from sight.
The noisy forest returned to tranquility, with only the rustle of leaves in the breeze. A cautious rabbit erged from a tree hole on the ground, looked around, waited a bit, and hopped forward. Sensing danger, it suddenly turned and darted back into its burrow.
Soon, the ground not far away stirred with weeds, which parted to reveal a pit, with a person hidden inside. Cloaked in a camouflage suit, his face sared with black paint, his eyes sharp as they scanned the front, emanating cold fury. After ensuring there was no danger nearby, he mimicked an owl's call, and shortly thereafter, more grass started to move as other people erged.
They climbed out of the pit, swiftly spread out, and one of them spoke into an earpiece, "Safe escape, Lan Xing, help check the surroundings."
"Snow Bear, how did you escape? I sensed your signal stop and saw a large group of pursuers rush past your position without finding you—amazing! Teach !" Lan Xing excitedly shouted while operating a satellite to examine the area.
"I learned from your brother-in-law; we dug holes and covered them underground, prepared a lid, put grass on top for camouflage, and who would suspect it?" Snow Bear explained with a laugh.
"No wonder, that's how you managed it! You learned from my brother-in-law, he's indeed brilliant. Besides the pursuers just now, there's no enemy within a twenty-kiloter radius; the pursuers don't intend to turn back. It's safe." Lan Xing teased Snow Leopard.
"Can you stop mocking ?" Snow Bear responded pretentiously upset, with a stern face, he quickly waved his hand, leading his brothers to retreat rapidly, following the route to a nearby dirt road, and ambushed themselves amid the forest.
There ca an owl call from the front, and Snow Bear imdiately responded. Shortly, soone erged from the woods ahead—it was Mountain Eagle. Initially, Mountain Eagle was also hidden underground, collaborating with Snow Leopard to ambush the enemy. Snow Leopard's team distracted the pursuers, while Mountain Eagle's team continued to lurk by the roadside, ensuring no one or any vehicle could traverse this road, effectively sealing off the base's lifeline.
"Is everyone alright?" Mountain Eagle crouched and ran to Snow Leopard, asking with concern.
"All good, we shook them off. Any updates?" Snow Leopard asked.
"Not a bird flew by, no worries." Mountain Eagle replied.
"Bro, let's create so commotion, how's your side?" Snow Leopard continued through the earpiece.
"You've stirred quite a fuss, Lan Xing has confird: the top aide beside the Yue Country President, the Chief of Staff of the ard forces, a general—if this is a small stir, there'd be no big ones in the world." Luo Zheng watched the front from the hillside, his heart stirred; his plan had succeeded in capturing so many big fish so soon. At this rate, Yue Country would go crazy.
"The base remains as quiet as always; nothing's changed except the troops that went out pursuing." Lan Xue supplented, "Stay hidden and be cautious."
"Don't worry. Ghost Hand scored as well. What's the update?" Snow Leopard pursued.
"You're fine, why would I be in trouble?" Ghost Hand's voice resonated in the earpiece.
"You're the one feared by ghosts, not accepted by King Yan; next turn, let go first." Snow Leopard chuckled. The three teams guarded one road, and targets would co in waves, impossible to engage all at once. They negotiated for turns.
"I'm fine with it. You caught an even bigger target—a lieutenant general. I've seen the highest rank as a lieutenant general in my life, never killed one—what does it feel like? How about I go first next ti as compensation?" Ghost Hand said enviously.
"Stop bickering, I'll go first next ti." Mountain Eagle interjected imdiately.
Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard ended their squabble and chuckled knowingly.
Listening amusedly, Luo Zheng didn't intervene; as long as they completed their mission and kept themselves safe, there was no need to interfere in such details. He continued to surveil the base, waiting until the quarrel ceased before saying with a smile, "Brothers, it'll be dark soon; with so many dead, Yue Country won't dare send vehicles through your line easily. There's probably nothing to do; move quickly for another big hit tonight."
"Alrighty," Ghost Hand and the others responded enthusiastically.
Scholar, hearing that Luo Zheng was ready to strike, beca excited too. Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard's teams' exploits left Scholar envious. He wondered what his own team might gain if they went out, quickly asking, "If we're going big, should I deploy two squads to assist?"
"No need for now. Haven't you noticed that the enemy base is experiencing so abnormalities?" Luo Zheng laughed.
"What abnormalities?" Lan Xue and Scholar asked almost simultaneously, their curiosity piqued. From poison deploynt till now, nearly an entire day passed without any change, leaving Lan Xue and Scholar anxious. However, they kept it to themselves. Hearing about abnormalities, they looked at Luo Zheng with excitent.
