Luo Zheng handed the binoculars to Lan Xue. Lan Xue quickly looked through them while listening intently. Luo Zheng glanced at the anxious Scholar and smiled, saying, "I've noticed sothing: the patrol team's patrol ti is less than half of what it used to be before being replaced by another team. Moreover, every patrol team that appears is unfamiliar. Normally, the patrols are fixed. Don't you find that strange?"
"Uh?" The Scholar raised his sniper scope in surprise to observe but quickly put it down. Luo Zheng had spent a long ti coming to this conclusion, sothing the Scholar couldn't imdiately see. He admired Luo Zheng's insight and said, "What does this indicate? Does it have to do with the virus you released?"
"Of course. Based on previous experiences, this virus causes stomach pain, diarrhea, and leaves people exhausted without any fighting strength. From the frequent changes in patrol faces, the virus seems to be working, but further observation is necessary. So, tonight, I plan to infiltrate." Luo Zheng explained confidently.
"If this is true, that would be great. After waiting for half a day, if we strike at midnight, more of them will be affected, which benefits us. I think we should mobilize all forces to directly attack." The Scholar suggested excitedly.
"I've considered it. More people increase the success rate, but I can't overlook retreat issues. Fewer people are more mobile; with everyone holding the periter, the enemy can't deploy more troops to pursue us. If we mobilize all our forces, even if we destroy the base, the thousands of enemy troops on the outskirts without being checked could encircle us, leaving nowhere to hide." Luo Zheng explained.
"It doesn't matter, as long as the mission is completed. How many escape is irrelevant; I believe the brothers will understand. The task is too difficult for just a few of us. To ensure success, personal life and death can be disregarded." The Scholar quickly said, his eyes gleaming with a fervent spirit.
"No, this matter is not up for discussion." Luo Zheng refused decisively.
The Scholar pursed his lips but said nothing further. Completing the task is a soldier's duty, but as an officer, if one doesn't consider the lives of their comrades, they won't earn recognition and loyalty. The Scholar understood these stakes as well as Luo Zheng's thods. Yet, if the mission isn't completed, what good is their survival?
The enemy is nurous, the defenses tight; to the Scholar, infiltrating and completing the task is extrely difficult. Luo Zheng understood the Scholar's good intentions and patted his shoulder, saying, "You are worried that the few of us can't complete the mission, hence prefer to mobilize more personnel for assurance."
"Exactly. If we risk going in and can't accomplish anything, such a good opportunity won't co again." The Scholar truthfully expressed his concerns.
"This needs no worry; our goal is to destroy the base, more people might not help." Luo Zheng comforted, while pondering his plan. It's easy to infiltrate with just over thirty people, but infiltrating deeply is harder, completing the mission even more so, unrelated to numbers, it all depends on the enemy base's counterasures.
As night gradually fell, blanketing the desolate wilderness, birds and beasts returned to nests, all beca silent. Luo Zheng continued watching the enemy base with binoculars. Ghost Hand's team stealthily approached from the rear, standing quietly among the trees, preparing for battle.
After a while, Luo Zheng sat down to check and maintain weapons while continuing to simulate plans in his mind. Nearby, the Scholar, Ghost Hand, and others waited anxiously, but knowing Luo Zheng's habits, they did not disturb him, avoiding disrupting his thoughts.
A few minutes later, after maintaining the weapons and loading bullets into empty magazines, Luo Zheng whispered to Ghost Hand and others, "Gather the brothers, let's discuss the plan."
Ghost Hand signaled to his team in the rear. Everyone gathered, silently watching Luo Zheng. Luo Zheng exchanged a glance with Lan Xue and said, " I'm sure the enemy was hit by the virus we released. Although the exact situation is unknown, I plan to infiltrate tonight to investigate."
"Give the order." Snow Leopard said excitedly.
"Be quiet, listen first." Mountain Eagle reminded, dissatisfied.
Luo Zheng smiled kindly and continued, "Not many need to infiltrate; I, Xue Er, and the Scholar will do. Just need three uniforms; earlier, I observed, and the garrison looks unsettled. Ghost Hand, you're responsible for the west side; Snow Leopard, you take the north side, find a way to penetrate and seize the howitzers. Ghost Hand, focus on destroying the radar array in the valley. Snow Leopard, target the heavy machine gun positions near the cave, create noise, see how the enemy responds, force out their sche, so the three of us can sneak in and seize opportunity."
"What about ?" Mountain Eagle hurriedly asked.
"Your n scatter around, remain concealed, sniping any high-ranking officers exiting the cave, disrupt their command system; when we impersonate officers to infiltrate, we won't be interrogated." Luo Zheng continued.
"Understood." Mountain Eagle promptly agreed.
"You have three hours to prepare; within this ti, even crawling stealthily to the periter is possible. Three hours later, make a move. If life is threatened, retreat imdiately, don't concern yourselves with other teams. Regroup here after dawn. Gauge the situation yourselves. Any questions?" Luo Zheng continued to instruct.
"No problem." Ghost Hand and others responded in unison; they had experience with sneaking attacks on positions. Crawling under the cover of darkness, turtle tactic; who would notice turtles approaching the battlefield on a pitch black night? Unless at their feet.
"Don't worry too much. I expect a storm in two hours; I've observed the enemy base all day and checked the weather. The storm won't be severe but might last a while. Perfect for exploiting the dark and rainy conditions for cover to stealthily advance. Now, synchronize watches: past nine thirteen sharp." Luo Zheng continued.
Everyone knew Luo Zheng was a skilled hunter proficient at predicting weather; moreover, judging weather is a requisite skill for every Special Forces soldier. Although all noticed the weather pattern, they couldn't confirm when the storm would strike. They had absolute faith in Luo Zheng's prediction; two hours later, when they were near the enemy, the storm would provide high concealnt, reducing chances of being discovered. This relieved everyone inwardly.
"Anyone else has questions?" Luo Zheng asked again.
"No more questions." Everyone responded loudly.
"Brothers, tonight's mission is crucial, act prudently. Don't let look down on you. Go now." Luo Zheng said seriously with determination.
"Yes." Everyone responded loudly, Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Eagle exchanged a serious glance with Luo Zheng, then with Lan Xue. With a wave of their hands, they led their teams into the night with killing intent, quickly disappearing into the darkness.
