Luo Zheng curiously rushed inside to take a look, and it was indeed an inner chamber. It was as large as a basketball court and about ten ters high. The surrounding cave walls were full of sculptures and murals, about three ters off the ground, depicting scenes that were incomprehensible. The sculptures resembled lamas, and candleholders held thick, arm-sized candles, numbering in the hundreds, illuminating the chamber brightly.
The floor was entirely made of slate, very flat, clean, and shiny. Around the cave walls were many bookshelves, about one and a half ters high. It was unclear what kind of wood was used to craft these bookshelves. They looked quaint and were accentuated by intoxicating incense. Various clean and ancient-looking books, many of which were thread-bound volus and parchnt scrolls, were placed on the shelves.
"Hm?" Luo Zheng quickly glanced around and realized this was a place for storing books. These were surely priceless treasures accumulated by the State Preceptor's sect over generations. It's a sha they couldn't be taken away.
"What valuable items, these are humanity's priceless treasures. Should we burn them?" Snow Leopard asked hesitantly.
"Burn them all for . They hoard them without sharing them with the world; what kind of human treasure is that? They are just private property of the State Preceptor's sect. In the face of a mission, everything else is fleeting. Burn them, even if it ans bearing eternal infamy; I'll take the bla. Hurry, we're running out of ti. Besides, are you sure these items are valuable? What if they are personal autobiographies or cultivation techniques?" Luo Zheng's face darkened as he solemnly instructed.
"Yes." Snow Leopard saw Luo Zheng had made up his mind, ceased further discussion, and shouted loudly: "Brothers, burn!"
"Yes." Everyone responded in unison, agreeing to burn first, regardless of whether the items were treasures.
Luo Zheng walked over to a bookshelf, casually pulled out a book, and flipped through it, discovering it contained ticulously drawn paintings and strange symbols, depicting things like dual cultivation that were incomprehensible. Discarding the book, he tipped a bookshelf onto the ground, causing books to scatter, and he threw the candles from the holder on top of them.
Soon, the candles ignited the books. Seeing Snow Leopard and others moving and setting fire to the bookshelves, Luo Zheng went through the passageway outside, looked up at the buildings above, and understood the structure of the temple. The inner cave chamber was for worship and cultivation, while the outer buildings were for rest. Though simple, many treasures were indeed stored. This fire might destroy so cultural heritage, but it was all from Yin Country, which was unlikely to share it with the world anyway. Burning it might even slow the country's developnt, benefiting his own nation.
"What's happening at the enemy camp?" Luo Zheng shouted through the earpiece.
"They seem to be mobilizing troops. Our actions may have been exposed." Lan Xue's voice ca through the earpiece.
"This fire needs more ti. We must stop their mobilization. Mountain Eagle, as soon as the enemy enters the two thousand ter range, hit them hard," Luo Zheng commanded coldly, his eyes glinting like unsheathed swords full of killing intent as he looked toward the enemy camp.
Shortly, the enemy indeed began their assault. Mountain Eagle and his n started intercepting them. Luo Zheng returned to the chamber, seeing everyone had overturned all the books on the ground and started setting them on fire. The fire was slow, and everyone was collecting candles from around the chamber to throw onto the piles of books, as wax helped ignite them.
"Hurry up." Luo Zheng commanded coldly, rushing forward to assist.
"Yes." Everyone quickened their actions, soon taking down all candles and tossing them onto the piles of books, and the fire began to spread quickly; within half an hour it would likely all burn.
Luo Zheng watched the raging flas, his heart steady and unmoved by any sense of loss, as these were items from the enemy country. Better destroyed than unable to take them away; aiding the enemy was out of the question. A soldier's duty is to protect national interests, and these items benefited the enemy country and hard his own, so they had to be destroyed. His face darkened as he shouted: "Burn the outer rooms too, hurry up."
"Yes." Everyone shouted in unison, quickly rushing outside to continue setting fires.
Luo Zheng ca to the entrance, coldly watching the enemies charging through the night. He smiled coldly and said to the Snow Leopard beside him: "It'll take so ti to finish burning, we have to fight a blocking battle here."
"No problem." Snow Leopard agreed nonchalantly, shouting to his n: "Brothers, you have ten seconds to ignite the fires, and then quickly co down to defend."
"Yes." Everyone shouted in unison, rushing up to the building to set fires.
Luo Zheng found a spot to set up his sniper rifle, loaded incendiary rounds, and aid beyond, with the enemy already within range. They couldn't be allowed to advance too fast, or everyone would be in trouble. Quickly, he aid at the crowded areas and fired. Snow Leopard wasn't a sniper; he rushed upstairs to ignite fires.
In battle, Luo Zheng wondered why the enemy didn't deploy more guards for the temple, given the valuables inside. Were they not valuable? Luo Zheng reconsidered, dismissing this thought. If they weren't valuable, the enemy wouldn't be desperately rushing to rescue. Maybe they hadn't expected him to investigate the temple? Or perhaps they thought he wouldn't burn it down?
"Never mind." Luo Zheng glanced back at the temple behind him. Black smoke from the burning books inside the chamber rose, and the outer buildings began to catch fire. Snow Leopard and his n dashed downstairs, delighting him as he looked towards the increasing enemy forces, his killing intent intensifying, aiming, firing, with calm determination.
Many enemies ca, braving death, and solely relying on a dozen or so people couldn't stop them. Soon they charged within five hundred ters. By then, Snow Leopard and his n had all co to support, dispersing in concealnt, setting up their guns, aiming, and firing at the charging enemies swiftly.
"Approximately two hundred enemies, should we call Ghost Hand for help?" Lan Xue's voice echoed in the earpiece.
After a mont of contemplation, Luo Zheng said: "No need. We only need to hold out for about twenty minutes."
"Brothers, hit them hard!" Snow Leopard shouted loudly.
The five hundred ter distance was a bit far; the night was too dark to see clearly. Without the enemy using torches, aiming was difficult, let alone precision shooting. The bullets weren't very accurate, but they served to stall. The enemy's advance slowed significantly. Luo Zheng needed ti, not kill counts, as long as the enemy didn't charge, they wouldn't retreat.
"Bang, bang, bang!" Hiding behind cover, everyone bravely retaliated, fearless of death, but the enemy's sheer numbers and dense gunfire swept over with substantial power. Luckily, they had cover, engaging in fierce exchanges for about ten minutes, as the enemy pushed to a hundred ters. This distance enhanced shooting accuracy on both sides significantly.
"Brothers, aim well and hit them hard, hold out a bit longer," Luo Zheng shouted.
"Yes!" Everyone shouted in unison, with killing intent soaring.
