Luo Zheng didn't imdiately answer Lan Xue's question, instead he stared at the military base ahead deep in thought. Drawing enemy attention is a technical task; timing and manner must be handled properly, otherwise the enemy won't be convinced. Especially with the timing, the position of the troops is about a day away from him, if he attacks the base now, anyone would guess it's two groups, not the sa party, which wouldn't achieve the purpose of drawing enemy attention.
"Look quickly, the enemy is taking action." Mountain Eagle, who had been watching the base, suddenly said softly.
"Looks like they are going to run." Lan Xue whispered.
Luo Zheng quickly raised his binoculars to look over, seeing many soldiers rushing out of the room, each ard to the teeth, quickly imposing martial law around them. The troop vehicle started to warm up, and shortly after, many people escorted a Lama into a vehicle. Luo Zheng was overjoyed and quickly grabbed his sniper rifle; this was a good opportunity.
At this mont, Lan Xue suddenly reached out, pressing Luo Zheng's sniper rifle firmly down, shaking his head with a bitter expression. Luo Zheng understood, releasing his grip on the gun, his eyes full of painful anger. Although firing at this ti might eliminate the State Preceptor, it would also expose their position, letting the enemy know that they had split their forces, which would compromise covering the other troops' retreat. For the task force to retreat smoothly, this shot can't be fired.
Faced with the choice between the mission and the safety of the task force brothers, Luo Zheng had no choice but to abandon the assassination, clenching his teeth in hatred, watching helplessly as these people boarded the vehicle and drove away, his hand gripping the cold steel gun turned pale, his palm full of cold sweat. Such a good opportunity.
The convoy left the valley, traveling southeast along the road. Luo Zheng's face was cold as ice, and his eyes almost spat fire. Yet thinking of the safety of his task force brothers, he had to suppress his impulsive desire, saying coldly, "Brothers, the target is indeed inside that convoy. Now we have two choices: continue to wait here, after nightfall figure out a plan to destroy this base and attract enemy attention."
The reason for choosing nightfall is because it would take until dark for the task force to arrive at this base. It seed reasonable to act after dark and would not arouse enemy suspicion that two separate troops were involved. Everyone was wise enough to understand Luo Zheng's bitter intentions and dilemma, they fell into contemplation.
"Agreed, Lan Xing, keep an eye on the target, don't lose track." Lan Xue agreed coldly.
"Yes." Lan Xing quickly responded.
Luo Zheng understood Lan Xue's intent, thought about it, and did not oppose. Glancing around him, he pointed to a distant mountain ridge and said, "There should be a leeward hollow over there, the enemy wouldn't notice it. We need to hide out there and rest for a bit."
Everyone nodded understandingly, packed up and headed towards the distant mountain ridge. No one spoke along the way, after walking for about half an hour, they reached the mountain ridge and found a leeward hollow filled with thick snow. Everyone chose a spot and dug a snow cave to hide in.
The snow cave had only one ventilation opening facing outward; if hidden properly, it was absolutely difficult to detect unless one was right nearby. After about ten minutes of digging, they burrowed inside, then sealed the entrance with snow, leaving only a fist-sized ventilation hole, where everyone rested inside the snow cave.
Fighting to this extent everyone's mood was hard to bear, even though they had wiped out hundreds of enemies, such a large sacrifice was hard for anyone to accept. Over the past two years, they fought nurous hard battles, but such a great loss was a first, each person's mood was heavy, words were scarce, and unknowingly they all fell asleep.
The snow continued to fall, heavier and heavier, gradually covering all traces around the snow cave left by people. Around noon, an enemy patrol team passed by nearby and did not discover the concealed snow cave; even the wolf dogs showed no signs of alert, allowing the patrol team to leave reassured.
By dusk, the snow gradually stopped falling. Luo Zheng and the others inside the snow cave erged from their sleeping bags. A full day's rest had restored much of their energy. After eating so dry rations, their bodies felt much better. Looking at his watch, Luo Zheng saw it was already around seven in the evening, by now it should be dark, perfect for action.
Everyone crawled out of the snow cave, the sky was a grayish hue, the ground was a blanket of snow, everything was silent, no wind, no snow, no people, no sound, nothing at all. Imrsed in the scene, it was as if they had entered a world of Bai Xue. Luo Zheng identified directions and led the others to climb up the hillside.
On the way, Luo Zheng quickly got in touch with Lan Xing, learning that the task force had evaded enemy pursuit and were resting in the mountains. But the enemy had mobilized a thousand troops and helicopters to scout the area, perhaps due to the heavy snow, their progress was slow, but over ti it may change.
Luo Zheng knew it was ti to launch an attack and draw enemy attention. The purpose of hiding here for a day was just that. He inquired about the location of the State Preceptor and learned they had entered a temple, located on a mountain ridge not far from a populated area. Luo Zheng was delighted, as long as the target wasn't lost.
Unknowingly, everyone arrived at the base, found a spot to conceal themselves. The enemy inside the base seed to be cooking, smoke was curling up, there were patrols around. The plaza was empty, perhaps due to the cold weather. Luo Zheng spectated for a while, put down his binoculars, and looked at the others saying, "Brothers, once our gunfire rings out, the enemy's focus will be drawn here, making the task force safe, but we'll be in danger. Is everyone ready?"
"Let's fire, no need to speak. We've forgone previous great opportunities just waiting for this mont. We don't need to attack people, just destroy a few buildings. When the buildings collapse, anyone inside can forget about surviving, plus the vehicles too. Without vehicles, the enemy can't chase us down." Ghost Hand said deeply.
"Yes, use armor-piercing bullet." Mountain Eagle's cold gaze flashed with war intent, his expression firm.
"Good." Seeing everyone's thoughts aligned with his own, Luo Zheng beca excited, saying, "Xue Er, you're responsible for attacking the enemy's transport, especially the five snowmobiles. Mountain Eagle, we target buildings, focusing on the kitchen and barracks. Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, you guys will handle enemies charging out to counterattack."
"Understood." Everyone stood, agreeing, then dispersed to their hiding spots, aiming toward the front.
Luo Zheng too set up his sniper rifle, loaded an armor-piercing incendiary bomb. The buildings in the base were more or less the sa, couldn't determine which one was the barracks, but the kitchen was clear. At this ti there must be many people in the kitchen, attacking the kitchen would draw the enemy out, then they could identify the barracks.
Concentrating, calming his breath, aiming, Luo Zheng quickly got into combat mode, aid at his target and pulled the trigger. The armor-piercing incendiary bomb roared out of the barrel, drawing a terrifying energy shock wave as it roared away, fierce and deadly.
