In front, the forest lay silent as death, but at so point, a small team appeared there. The sun erged from the horizon, dispelling the night, its warm rays spreading over the canopy, slightly softening the piercing cold. The wind picked up, stirring the snowflakes to dance like elves. Yet, Luo Zheng's mood grew heavy; the sunrise did not bring him any relief as he locked his gaze onto the figures in the dense woods ahead.
The people weren't many, just about ten, scattered in groups of threes and fives, eating sothing. It seed chaotic, but upon closer inspection, one could discern they had ford a circular formation. No matter where the attack ca from, they could respond promptly. Among them, one carried a sniper rifle on their back.
Upon seeing the sniper rifle, Luo Zheng knew this group wasn't ordinary. Regular troops wouldn't have a sniper. Observing further, he noted the group was diverse, composed of different races, indicating they weren't the Arctic Bear's regular army nor the Snow Bear Special Forces. Luo Zheng estimated these weren't from the Bloodsucker but rather the Wild Wolf rcenary Group; the Reincarnation Killer Organization shouldn't have such snipers.
After observing for a while, Luo Zheng attached the sniper scope to the sniper rifle as a precaution, quickly scanned his surroundings but remained still, patiently waiting to clarify the team's purpose. After about ten minutes, Luo Zheng noticed a patrol team passing by. The patrol team spotted this group but did not approach for questioning.
Luo Zheng surmised these people had communication tools, and they knew each other's identities. He patiently waited, and soon the patrol team moved on, and that group also got up to leave in another direction. Luo Zheng pondered that the patrol team had a fixed route, intersecting with others, making it easy to expose when followed. This peculiar team was different; the places they passed were unlikely to be inspected by other teams. Moreover, trailing them, even if detected by satellites, wouldn't attract attention.
Thinking this, the skilled and daring Luo Zheng decided to take a risk again. Once the other party passed over the hill and walked far, he grabbed his weapon to follow them, maintaining a certain distance, while checking GPS on his phone, finding the group's direction headed straight for the Snow Bear Base Camp.
This discovery delighted Luo Zheng, who continued to tail them. When he saw the enemies climbing the mountain, he quickly found a spot to hide until they had gone beyond sight, then pursued them. About an hour later, Luo Zheng saw the team stop ahead and join with another team, conversing about sothing to his surprise. He quickly found a place to lie down, lurking patiently.
Lying on the ground, Luo Zheng couldn't see the enemy situation ahead. After a few minutes, unsure if the enemies had left, he slowly poked his head up to observe only to find the enemies showed no intention of leaving. Luo Zheng was startled, puzzled about their actions. He didn't linger long, quickly assessed the surrounding terrain, and determined a route to veer upward.
Throughout, Luo Zheng constantly used the terrain and trees to stealth maneuver smoothly, unknowingly bypassing the two exposed teams, continuing onward. Every few segnts, he paused to observe for several minutes, ensuring no danger before advancing. He disliked exposure, having gone through so much.
Stopping intermittently, he encountered two patrol teams along the way, narrowly avoiding them. Unknowingly, he reached a mountain ridge, checked the ti; it was noon, intending to find a place to rest a while. Unconsciously, he arrived under a large tree, placed his backpack down, sat down, calmly inspecting the surroundings, typically dismounting the sniper scope to raise it.
At this mont, Luo Zheng noticed ahead a vast valley with buildings. Luo Zheng was astonished, jumped up, raised binoculars to scrutinize, discovering quite a few buildings inside the valley, surrounded by barbed wire, with many troops patrolling. So sunbathed in the square.
"Hm?" Luo Zheng was taken aback, then rejoiced. This should be the Snow Bear Base Camp. Luo Zheng looked at the five helicopters parked in the square, thrilled. He assembled the sniper scope, slung the sniper rifle over his shoulder, and quickly climbed the tree, brimming with excitent, finally having arrived.
In short order, Luo Zheng climbed to the treetop, standing on a bough, stabilizing against the trunk, again raising the binoculars. From this vantage point, everything appeared clearer; nurous soldiers undertook routine training in the square, others maintained helicopters. Inside the buildings wasn't visible; on the opposite side were nurous tents housing many people. Dead bird carcasses hung on the tall electrified fence, indicating it was charged.
Suddenly, Luo Zheng found behind the buildings many stakes, atop them rafters camouflaged green, and from this angle, he could see people tied to the stakes. Luo Zheng was greatly startled, quickly adjusted the sniper scope for close examination, finding these were all Yellow Race individuals, each looking forlorn and feeble.
Unease swelled in Luo Zheng's heart, locking onto one person and continuously adjusting the sniper scope, gradually making out the face. Surprisingly, it was a warrior from First Squadron. Though he couldn't recall the na, they trained together often in the training field, familiar to him. Luo Zheng was shocked, lowered the sniper scope, his expression icy and contemplative.
"What's going on here?" Luo Zheng wondered in surprise, then rejoiced. Since they were one of his own, others must be too. First Squadron hadn't perished completely, only captured. Whether Shadow was among them was unknown. Luo Zheng quickly raised the sniper scope to continue observing.
Tied to stakes, their faces were gaunt, appearing lifeless; so lay slumbered, likely not to awaken. Clearly, they suffered inhumane treatnt, enraging Luo Zheng imnsely. Grinding his teeth, he put down the sniper scope; veins bulged on his hand, bursting out, cursing aloud: "These animals!" His anger peaked.
On the battlefield, killing or being killed was typical, but torturing captives was not. Positions differed, not deep hatred. Killing was in the heat; yet, Luo Zheng hadn't expected the infamous Snow Bear Special Warfare Team to torture captives. This outco completely enraged Luo Zheng, his face frozen like frost, matching the icy snowfield around and radiating a chilling murderous aura.
"Bastards." Luo Zheng cursed coldly, raising the sniper bullets for observation again. No wonder Lan Xing hadn't noticed the anomaly; the brothers, though tied outdoors, had camouflaging above, invisible from satellites. Were it not for climbing the tree and examining from the side, nothing would be discernable.
Luo Zheng roughly counted, seeing about ten people, but they were obscured by buildings, making exact numbers uncertain. This unexpected revelation slightly cald Luo Zheng's furious heart. Suddenly, an enemy team walked by, and one enemy unexpectedly slapped a warrior.
"Animals." Luo Zheng fud, eyes agape, gritting steel teeth, blood-red eyes nearly spewing fire. Endless killing rage almost materialized, gripping the sniper rifle, eager to charge.
