The desolate snowfield beca deathly silent, a cold and chilling murderous air perating the atmosphere, with no sign of life around, not even a bird's chirp. It was like a still world of ice and snow, but within the towering tree canopy, Luo Zheng's heart could not settle. Instead, endless fury began to surge, the powerful urge to fire filling his brain, yet the last thread of rationality in his mind kept reminding Luo Zheng not to shoot.
Luo Zheng clenched his steel teeth in anger, his fiery tiger eyes flickering with endless rage. The sniper rifle that was already aid could not lock onto the target due to muscle tremors. He took a deep breath, inhaling a large amount of icy air, which stung his lungs. His brain occupied by anger gained a bit more calmness, and his trigger finger slowly moved away.
A long-distance shot might hit one enemy, but then what? It wouldn't save anyone, and would expose himself, even implicating his captured comrades, a gain far outweighed by the loss. After this thought flashed in Luo Zheng's mind, he punched the tree trunk in frustration, causing it to shake and snowflakes to fall down.
Finding the situation hopeless, Luo Zheng had no choice but to temporarily abandon the rescue plan. To prevent impulsively opening fire, Luo Zheng secured the sniper rifle and put it away, took off the sniper scope and continued observing. Soon, Luo Zheng noticed soone again beating the prisoners, laughing triumphantly and saying sothing, while the prisoners could only glare angrily, unable to do anything else.
Enduring his inner rage, Luo Zheng observed them one by one, noticing his comrades' cracked lips, sunken eyes, everyone visibly thinner, clearly having not eaten for a long ti, symptomatic of dehydration. He had no idea how many days they'd been bound like this, but if this continued, it wouldn't be long before they all perished. He had to rescue them quickly.
Thinking of this, Luo Zheng couldn't bear to keep observing, so he moved the sniper scope away and began to survey his surroundings: barbed wire fences, nurous buildings wearing green camouflage, tents beside countless patrols with wolves, heavy machine gun positions in every direction. Such a large camp couldn't possibly be infiltrated, what could be done?
The surrounding mountains of the Snow Bear Base Camp were not very steep, covered with trees on the slopes. However, Luo Zheng estimated there were land mines buried, rashly going down was definitely out of the question. A river ran through the valley, the surface wide, ice ford on top with holes carved for fetching water.
This was an ideal valley, very suitable for garrisoning troops. Luo Zheng noted the base's terrain and deploynt, quickly took out his phone, powered it on to take pictures, then slunk down from the tree, squatted below to vigilantly observe the surroundings for a while. Confirming he hadn't been discovered, he opened the signal device, put on his headset.
Satellite signal quickly connected. Without waiting for anyone to speak, Luo Zheng imdiately ordered, "Connect my phone now, retrieve the pictures just taken, hurry up, I'm near the Snow Bear Base Camp, can't stay powered on too long."
"Understood." A male voice quickly replied.
Luo Zheng froze montarily, but quickly realized from the voice that it was the Information Officer of the First Squadron, and imdiately said, "Who's from the Fourth Squadron?"
"They're too tired, resting temporarily, we are the First Squadron, I'm Ye Laixiang, hello Ghost, is there a situation, should I go wake them imdiately?" A female voice said steadily.
"Ye Laixiang?" Luo Zheng knew Ye Laixiang was Shadow's wife, the two officially married six months ago. Unexpectedly, such a thing happened later, the scene of the prisoner flashed in his mind instantly, he promptly said, "Ye Laixiang, I am Ghost, the First Squadron hasn't been completely wiped out. I found a dozen comrades captured, maybe even more blocked from view, couldn't find Shadow, given Shadow's capability, I absolutely believe he is still alive."
"What? Are you for real?" Ye Laixiang exclaid in surprise, a hint of joy in her tone.
"Of course, you know I don't talk about things I'm unsure of." Ghost comforted.
"I believe you, that's great, please save our First Squadron comrades and my husband, please." Ye Laixiang cried joyfully, raising her voice, her emotions growing agitated.
"Don't worry, I'll try my best, imdiately contact Director Wu, arrange my n to parachute in, specific coordinates to follow, are the base camp photos ready?" Luo Zheng promptly answered.
"Already processed." The Information Officer quickly said, filled with endless excitent, "Thank you!"
"We're all National Blade brothers, what's there to thank, just provide satellite support anyti." Luo Zheng casually replied, vigilantly observing around. Suddenly hearing a sniper rifle shot, he was shocked, jumped up, raised the sniper scope towards the direction of gunfire.
"What's the matter? Why is there gunfire?" Ye Laixiang exclaid in surprise.
"Situation is unclear, ending the call for now, I'll contact you." Luo Zheng quickly agreed, swiftly shutting off the signal device. This was Snow Bear Base Camp though, certainly equipped with satellite signal trackers or similar, staying powered longer would expose him. He couldn't take this risk, also attracted by the sudden gunfire.
This was Snow Bear Base Camp; even if soone was hunting, it was ordinary gunfire, definitely not using a sniper rifle. The sniper rifle wasn't aid at him, sounded as if it was shooting towards the base camp. Luo Zheng couldn't comprehend the situation, the slopes were sowhat low, his view obstructed by woods, Luo Zheng gritted his teeth, climbing the tree again.
Soon, Luo Zheng climbed up to the crown, raised the sniper scope to observe. At this mont, just in ti for another sniper shot, Luo Zheng clearly saw an enemy torturing prisoners fall at the sound, a face-sized hole appearing in their chest, impossible to survive, others hastily retreated to cover.
"What?" Luo Zheng gasped in shock, quickly shifting the sniper scope towards the opposite hill, soon spotting a person in a white cloak retreating swiftly, only the back visible, with the backpack propping up the cloak, the figure looking sowhat bloated, unable to discern who it was.
"What's going on?" Luo Zheng watched this scene in surprise, suddenly realizing, instantly overjoyed, regardless of who the person was, firing at the enemy ant they were on his side, at least unfavorable to the enemy, the enemy's enemy is soone who can be allied with, if it's his comrade, even better.
Luo Zheng quickly slid down the tree, packed up his backpack, camouflaged the surrounding snow, searched the terrain and swiftly chose a direction to bypass and pursue towards the opposite mountain ridge where the retreating person was. The unexpected gunfire filled Luo Zheng's heart with expectation and desire, yearning that person to be his comrade.
If he could find his comrade, he would know what happened, and the subsequent tasks would be much simpler. Luo Zheng tirelessly hurried, the prior weariness and fatigue vanished without a trace, his body filled with power.
