Around midnight, in a forest on the outskirts of the capital of Sam Country, the winter moon was shrouded in gray clouds, casting a dim light over the land with very low visibility. The cold wind tore through the trees, making a whooshing sound. The temperature at night was significantly lower than during the day, freezing people into staying indoors. Yet, a large group of people was gathered in this forest, each with sharp eyes fixed ahead, holding steel guns whose barrels emitted a chilling gleam, sending shivers down one's spine.
One person stood atop a high ground, staring intently ahead. There was an open area with a farmhouse, which looked dark and looming, like a primordial fierce beast in hibernation. Faint glimrs of light could be vaguely discerned. This person bore a distinguished appearance, exuding an aura of intimidation. Beside him stood a cold and beautiful woman, also frowning and gazing into the distance with a thoughtful expression. They were Luo Zheng and Lan Xue.
Behind them were their brothers who had arrived one after another. For safety, everyone walked out of the city separately, with weapons wrapped in packages to bypass checkpoints along the way. It took a full three hours to gather in this forest. Luo Zheng had Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard behind him.
"Are all the brothers here?" Luo Zheng asked, looking at the distant farmhouse.
"Not one is missing, everyone is here," Ghost Hand replied with proud assurance.
"Good, prepare to move out," Luo Zheng responded, signaling for the two to co over. Pointing to the farmhouse ahead, he said, "From the look of the terrain, there is a forest we can use for concealnt, but I estimate the enemy will focus their defense there. Therefore, we can only advance under the cover of night. I will lead the charge with Xue Er, and you all follow. Everyone put on your earpieces, infrared communication mode."
"Understood, let lead the charge," Ghost Hand quickly volunteered.
"I'll do it," Snow Leopard interjected.
"You two take care of the troops," Luo Zheng said firmly, glancing at Lan Xue, who nodded understandingly, pulled out her pistol, and attached a suppressor. The weapons were all smuggled in with them. Luo Zheng also took out his pistol and fitted a suppressor, then looked at Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard to continue the reminder, "Engage silently as much as possible."
"Yes." Seeing that Luo Zheng and Lan Xue were ready for combat, Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard stopped arguing about leading and quickly agreed and went to relay the orders.
Once ready, Luo Zheng and Lan Xue exchanged a glance and quickly rushed forward, running like leopards under the cover of night. They charged three hundred ters in a flash, in sync slowing down a bit as defenses grew tighter the further they went. They needed to be cautious. They donned specially made tactical goggles that allowed them to see a certain distance at night and distinguish infrared.
"Xue Er, alternate infiltration. Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, maintain a 200-ter distance from us. Move the team in combat formation. Watch your step," Luo Zheng whispered softly into his earpiece.
"Understood." The response ca through the earpiece with a cold, murderous edge under the night sky.
Luo Zheng advanced under the cover of the surrounding terrain, suddenly accelerating forward for about two hundred ters, lying flat on a low ground, calmly observing the surroundings with his gun pointing ahead. Once he was certain of no danger, he signaled Lan Xue behind him. Lan Xue, crouched, quickly darted up, leaping gracefully in quick succession, reached nearby, and without pause, continued fighting her way forward for about two hundred ters, hiding in a bush.
After a while, Lan Xue signaled to Luo Zheng behind her. Luo Zheng, understandingly, bent forward and sprinted forward in the night, like a rapidly running leopard. His body elongated into a smooth wave, full of athletic beauty and incredible speed, quickly surpassing the hiding Lan Xue, advancing another two hundred ters.
This ti, Luo Zheng took cover on a surrounding high point, calmly watching ahead, eyes cold and murderous, with the dark night clearly visible through his goggles. Although visibility wasn't far, it was enough to see the surroundings. The front seed safe for now. Luo Zheng raised his head slightly to look further ahead, where the mission target lay, seemingly quiet and still.
Luo Zheng signaled Lan Xue, who silently rushed up, advanced two hundred ters, and signaled Luo Zheng with a safety gesture. Luo Zheng dashed up again, like a ghost, with his speed having significantly improved after a battle with the Snow Bear Team. After so ti for rest and recuperation, he found himself faster, not quite on par with Shadow, but close.
As he ran, Luo Zheng could even feel the piercing sound of the wind rushing past his ears. He had heard this sound during past runs, but it wasn't this piercing. Passing by Lan Xue, Luo Zheng advanced another two hundred ters or so, taking cover on a hill, observing the scene from above.
Soon, Luo Zheng discovered so infrared lines in the silent ground under the dim night sky ahead. It was the infrared detector, not very dense but crisscrossed in distribution. Rushing forward rashly would certainly trigger an alarm, which shocked him silently. The infrared lines were spread over a wide area.
"What's wrong?" Lan Xue's surprised inquiry ca through the earpiece.
"There are infrared detectors ahead," Luo Zheng said in a low voice.
"Hiss? Infrared detectors, what a grand setup. This Minister of Defense is really afraid of death. Can we get through?" Lan Xue asked in a low, serious tone.
"With the infrared, the enemy's defense is more relaxed, which is a good thing. Everyone, move up quickly," Luo Zheng calmly and confidently instructed, bursting with fighting spirit as if it was tangible, piercing through the dark night sky.
Soon, Lan Xue ca up, hiding next to Luo Zheng, vigilantly observing ahead. She spoke softly, "Luckily it's not very dense. It looks widespread, possibly guarding the entire farmhouse. We can only carefully cross over. I don't know if there are ambushes ahead. It's too dark to see clearly."
"Yes, if there are hidden sentinels ahead, crossing over hastily could get us caught. I'll go first. Once it's safe, the others follow. The infrared lines aren't high; they can be crossed without touching them. Everyone, be careful," Luo Zheng whispered.
"Yes," Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard whispered back.
Luo Zheng glanced at the infrared distributed area ahead, gave Lan Xue a look, which she understood, preparing for combat to cover Luo Zheng. Luo Zheng bent down and sprinted forward, moving quickly. In an instant, he reached the infrared distribution area, leaping over the first infrared line in a single bound, landing soundlessly, like an agile lynx, cautiously observing the surroundings before continuing his stealthy advance.
