Now reading: Chapter 266 266: Kill the Wolf and Take Its Possession from Strongest Soldier King, a Action novel by Jungle Wolf.

The sky was clear, without a cloud in sight, as the sun vigilantly surveyed the earth. The wilderness was a vast expanse of snow, devoid of any green signs of life, eerily silent. The wind, whisking up snowflakes, spiraled away. A wolf stood as still as a stone sculpture; were it not for the icy sharpness emanating from its eyes that sent shivers down one's spine, one would have surely mistaken it for a dead wolf. Luo Zheng, surprised, watched the Wild Wolf, drawing his handgun, ready for whatever may co.

Encountering a Wild Wolf in the snow was definitely bad news. Fortunately, it was a lone wolf that had strayed from the pack, its stomach sunken, presumably starving. But a starving wolf was all the more ferocious. Luo Zheng dared not be careless. With only two bullets left, he couldn't afford to be sparing in a life-or-death mont.

The snow was too deep, swallowing up half a person's height, making movent difficult. Lingering too long could attract more wolves. He had to fight quickly and decisively. Seeing that the Wild Wolf remained motionless, Luo Zheng decided to take the initiative. With gun in hand, a soldier fears nothing. Perhaps sensing Luo Zheng's challenge, the wolf emitted an irritated growl, shook its body, dislodging the snowflakes, and approached Luo Zheng with a fierce growl and a nacing gaze.

Luo Zheng was no longer a naive soldier; having faced life and death too many tis, he was utterly unflustered by the hungry wolf. Seeing the hungry wolf attack head-on, he stood motionless, ready, his gaze steady and cold as he locked onto the hungry wolf. When the wolf ca within five ters, he aid the gun's barrel at the wolf's eyes.

Those familiar with wolves know the saying, "iron rods for legs, tofu for the spine, broom tails, and an iron head." If the wolf were approaching head-on and the ground level, Luo Zheng wouldn't mind attacking the wolf's waist. But the thick snow underfoot made agile movent difficult. Firing at the hard head might not kill instantly, and a call for help at the brink of death would spell trouble, so aiming for the eyes, where a bullet would mutilate the brain, would ensure a certain death.

However, Luo Zheng noticed that this Wild Wolf was no ordinary beast; upon seeing the handgun, it constantly shifted its head, its movents irregular and hard to target. It continued forward, stopping three ters away, its ferocity turning into restlessness, a prelude to its attack designed to unnerve its prey.

As one of the top predators in the food chain, the wolf had its survival tactics, including psychological warfare before a hunt. The timid often beca paralyzed with fear. Luo Zheng, fully aware of this, allowed a cold sneer to erge. The starving wolf, feeling its authority challenged, roared angrily, stretched its neck, and exposed its bloody maw, its stench gushing out with its roar.

"Bang!" Without hesitation, Luo Zheng fired. The gunshot broke the stillness of Snowfield, roaring as it entered through the hungry wolf's mouth. Upon eting resistance, the bullet's kinetic energy caused it to spin irregularly and at high speed, turning the wolf's internal organs into mush. The bullet, losing none of its montum, exited through the wolf's rear and howled into the snow, disappearing without a trace.

"Awoooo—" The hungry wolf let out a pitiful cry and collapsed thunderously, its cold gaze fixed on Luo Zheng; its eyes filled with terror and confusion, unable to fathom how it had fallen at the hands of this weaker creature before it.

Without any energy left and its innards completely shredded, the hungry wolf's consciousness began to fade as it slowly closed its eyes. Luo Zheng approached, holstered his gun, and using the sharp edge of his handcuffs, pierced the wolf's neck artery; blood flowed out. Gritting his teeth, he leaned in to drink. He had not eaten all night and was starving; for survival, he would eat wolf blood, tree bark, or even ants.

Gulping down the wolf's blood, Luo Zheng drank greedily. With the cold freezing everything, if he drank slowly, the blood would congeal; if he missed this chance, who knew how long it would be before he found food again. He had to drink as much as possible—the law of nature dictated survival above all else.

A few minutes later, Luo Zheng felt the wolf blood getting scarcer, the body of the Wild Wolf gradually becoming stiff. He had no choice but to stop; he grabbed a handful of snow and roughly wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. Then he took a large mouthful of snow, let it lt into water, and swallowed it. Afterward, he used the sharp edge of his handcuffs to skin the Wild Wolf.

The blood and flesh of the Wild Wolf had all frozen solid like stones and were inedible, but the fur was extrely useful. Luo Zheng was very careful as he skinned it, scraping and tearing. It took a full half-hour before he had peeled off the wolf skin. He split it in two and then lay down on the snowy ground, lifting his feet to remove his leather shoes and socks.

Earlier, while out with Ghost Hand as a decoy, he had only worn a pair of ordinary leather shoes. Walking in the snow with leather shoes offered no insulation from the cold. Since cold starts from the feet, without solving the issue of keeping his feet warm, he would still freeze to death in the Snowfield. While drinking the wolf blood, Luo Zheng had felt warmth from the blood entering his body, which gave him this idea.

The wolf skin hadn't been cured and would sll bad. Fortunately, in this freezing environnt, the skin and flesh wouldn't rot, and the stench wasn't significant. Luo Zheng wrapped his feet with the furry side of the skin, tore his close-fitting T-shirt in half, and used each piece as a leg tie, binding the pants and wolf skin together, then pulling on the socks again.

After he had sorted out both legs, Luo Zheng rested for a while and felt the numbness in his feet giving way to so warmth, which made him very happy. As long as he could solve the issue of keeping his feet warm, Luo Zheng was confident that he could walk out of this vast and remote snowy plateau. The leather shoes were tight once put back on, but still wearable. Luo Zheng glanced at the wolf corpse on the snow and said with so gratitude, "Brother Wolf, I'm sorry. Try to reincarnate into sothing else in your next life."

Saying this, Luo Zheng looked towards the east and clenched his teeth before continuing to stride forward. Maybe it was because he had drunk the wolf's blood, but his body did not feel numb from the cold. After walking for about an hour or so, he began to feel increasingly warm. Luo Zheng promptly slowed his pace to avoid sweating, while continuously grabbing snow to put in his mouth and lt it into water to swallow.

After the overnight blizzard ravaged, the temperature on the snowy plateau was still tens of degrees below zero, but the sun was good, and the air was crisp, which greatly lifted his spirits. Luo Zheng kept moving, checking his direction every hour using the sun as a reference to avoid going astray.

The snowy plateau was an endless expanse of white with no reference points, and it was impossible to rember directions after a long ti. Driven by the will to survive, Luo Zheng kept walking and walking, even feeling parts of his muscles becoming frostbitten. But he dared not stop; stopping ant the shattering of hope.

It gradually got darker and the moon rose, but Luo Zheng still dared not stop; it was too cold. He could not afford to sleep, for once asleep, he might never wake up again. It was better to keep moving. Thankfully, Luo Zheng had a steadfast will and gritted his teeth, persevering. In such harsh conditions, without any equipnt, he had to get out as quickly as possible—every additional minute was a minute of increased danger to his life.

Luo Zheng didn't know how far he still had to go, but he constantly reminded himself to stay alert. When sleepiness crept over him, Luo Zheng would quickly grab a big handful of snow and vigorously rub it on his face to eliminate fatigue and dispel any random thoughts, not daring to let his guard down for a mont. Contesting with nature was terrifying because no one knew when death might arrive. If he wanted to live, he had to fight with all his might.
