The desolate snowfield, the uncanny combat, familiar voices, all these left Luo Zheng puzzled. Upon seeing the retreat of the party being pursued as they turned their guns to cover their escape, he imdiately made a decision. Regardless of who the pursuers were, they were the enemy, because he recognized a familiar voice among those being pursued.
Luo Zheng quickly surveyed the battlefield situation, deciding that the best approach was to hang back and ambush them from behind. By quietly taking out one of them and seizing their weapons and ammunition, their death sentence would be sealed. With this in mind, Luo Zheng observed carefully once again and soon located the sniper hidden behind on a high platform not far from his own position.
The high platform was on a hillside, with its rugged rocks offering good concealnt and a clear field of view, making it an ideal rear sniping position. Luo Zheng saw that the sniper was precisely suppressing the pursued party, who could only take cover and occasionally return fire. If it were not for the accurate shooting that made the pursuers cautious, they would have charged already.
"I must take out that sniper," Luo Zheng instantly judged that the sniper was the key to the entire battle. The pursuers were relying on their sniper to suppress the pursued party, who were barely holding on against the assault thanks to precise shooting. However, they wouldn't last much longer unless the person covering the retreat managed to escape, but no one on the battlefield would abandon a comrade.
Luo Zheng moved to the bottom of the hillside as quickly as possible, carefully scouted the area, and chose a path to infiltrate. Glancing once more at the speed of the pursuer's attack and firepower, the situation was becoming increasingly dire for those being pursued due to the suppressing influence of the enemy's sniper.
The hillside was only a dozen ters high, but the bizarre rocks made the climb difficult. A direct approach would be too conspicuous, so Luo Zheng pulled out his pistol, ejected the bullets to check them, made sure they were fine, reloaded, and hurriedly began his cautious climb up the hillside, agile as a monkey.
The opposing sniper had a very keen intuition and an above-average sense of danger. Luo Zheng dared not let out the slightest killing intent, nearly holding his breath as he moved, being extrely careful with each step to avoid making any noise that might alert the enemy. After climbing about five ters up, he hid behind a huge rock to catch his breath, then slowly inhaled to control his heartbeat.
After catching his breath, Luo Zheng no longer dared to jump up the slope. Instead, he began to crawl, serpent-like, his anxiety and killing intent intensely suppressed, not even daring to aim his gun at the target for fear the enemy might sense it. After crawling up another three ters, Luo Zheng stopped to catch his breath again and used his peripheral vision to observe the target, a thod that wouldn't expose his anger or killing intent.
Human intuition is a mysterious thing; you can sense when soone is looking at you, whether they are in front or behind, or to either side. If soone stares directly, the feeling is imdiate, allowing quick location of the watcher. However, if soone just glances casually with their peripheral vision, it goes unnoticed.
The sniper's intuition is even sharper than that of ordinary people, especially during combat when they are highly focused. If soone has them in their sights, they will instantly sense it. Luo Zheng was also a sniper, possessed of that battlefield intuition, and natural understanding of another sniper; he wouldn't make such an error.
After climbing about another two ters, Luo Zheng hid behind a huge rock from where he could fully see the target. Hearing the intense gunfire from a distance, he no longer hesitated, his gun promptly aid at the target. But just as he was about to pull the trigger, Luo Zheng saw the target turn around in surprise.
"This is a rookie." Luo Zheng made the judgnt instantly. On the battlefield, a veteran soldier, when sensing they are targeted, would never turn their head back; they would roll and evade as fast and directly as possible. Looking back wastes ti, perhaps only a second or even less, but on the battlefield, that's enough to lose one's life.
At a re distance of five ters, this was no challenge for Luo Zheng, especially against a stationary target. The bullet whistled through the air, hitting the target between the eyebrows just as they turned their head to look back, instantly shattering the central nervous system and bursting out of the back of the skull, sending a spray of blood arcing through the air.
The sniper's central nervous system was destroyed, unable to command the body's instinctual reactions. His head slumped, and he was immobilized. Luo Zheng tossed the now empty pistol aside and stepped forward quickly. He flipped the body over and saw it was a foreigner, with blue eyes that revealed his identity, his eyes filled with reluctance and yearning for life.
Luo Zheng took the enemy's weapon and equipnt, an SVD sniper rifle. Having used this model before, Luo Zheng pushed the body aside and lay prone in its previous position, camouflaged. He quickly aid at the last person in the pursuing group. Attacking from the front could easily alert those behind, but attacking the rear would likely go unnoticed by those ahead for a short ti, giving him a better chance.
Soon, Luo Zheng locked onto a target who was firing fiercely from behind a rock, providing cover fire for his companions as they advanced. The angle of the cover was excellent from the front, impossible to hit, but from behind, it was a different story. None of his enemies could have imagined that their sniper craft was under attack, even less so that they had beco the prey.
"Swoosh!" The bullet left the chamber; the casing ejected and hit the ground with a crisp sound. The flash of the muzzle disappeared in an instant, the bullet roared, carrying Luo Zheng's urgency and fury, screaming through the air, and instantly penetrated the back of the target's head. The impact against the rock splattered a large bloom of blood, a headshot with one bullet.
"Satisfying." Luo Zheng silently congratulated himself with glee, imdiately aiming at another target. Suddenly, he sensed sothing wrong, his heart skipped a beat, and his body instinctively recoiled. Bang bang bang! Three shots, three bullets hit the rocky outcrop, sparks flying. If not for the difference in elevation, the bullets would have definitely hit him.
Luo Zheng knew these shots must have co from the pursuers. Eliminating the enemy sniper is the top priority in a fight. The pursuers didn't know the sniper had been replaced and they opened fire with three shots, presumably from three different shooters. Luo Zheng was irritated but thought about the chance that the shooters could be from his own side, and with no place for his anger to go, he quickly retreated to cover, set himself up again, and realized that the pursuers had sensed sothing off and turned their barrels around, now vigilantly scanning his position.
Because of those three shots, he missed the chance to take another. Luo Zheng was extrely frustrated, but he still locked onto a target. The enemy was hiding behind a rock with no chance to shoot. Luo Zheng waited patiently.
The pursuers suddenly changed tactics, and those being pursued quickly realized sothing was off as well. The battlefield fell silent as everyone awaited their opportunity. With that, the battlefield that had been ablaze with gunfire monts ago quieted down, leaving only the whistling of the wind.
The pursuers were well hidden with no chance to shoot. The pursued couldn't grasp the situation and didn't launch their attack. Luo Zheng was so frustrated he almost wanted to shout out loud but thought better of it. With friend and foe unclear, no one would be foolish enough to change their mind over a few yelled words. He could only wait silently, muttering to himself, "Co on out."
