The rooftop was flat, much like the surrounding ones, resembling a vast square. The streets were narrow enough to easily leap across. Luo Zheng made use of the first ray of morning sunlight to grasp the surroundings and, taking off his tactical goggles, his expression turned grave. Such a flat rooftop left nowhere to hide; once discovered, death was certain.
The sunlight brightened the earth, and the golden dawn scattered over the desert, illuminating the castle. The quiet castle began to stir, presenting a harmonious and beautiful scene. Yet, this very sight heightened the anxiety of Luo Zheng and his team. The rooftops were flat, one after another, separated by narrow streets and alleys with no place to take cover, and everyone turned to Luo Zheng with solemn expressions.
"We must think of sothing quickly," Luo Zheng admonished himself silently while rapidly searching for an escape plan. They had infiltrated and wrought havoc, likely killing no less than thirty people. How many were left was unknown, and the Wolf King could discover the bodies at any ti. What would he do once the alarm was raised?
The troops outside the castle were on guard without cause for alarm and had noticed nothing. Undoubtedly, the Wolf King could easily suspect that everyone was hiding in so corner of the castle, and would certainly launch a thorough search. Staying on the rooftop was a temporary asure; they would be exposed before long, and they had to think of a way out before then. With this thought, Luo Zheng's face turned icy, and he said in a low voice, "Brothers, is there any way to locate the Wolf King?"
To capture the thieves, first capture the king; everybody brightened up at the idea and began scanning the surroundings. The flat rooftops were clearly visible, all the rooms unremarkable and indistinct. Lan Xue spoke in a low voice, "During the day, there were patrols on the roof, called off at night, but I reckon they'll be up here soon. If it cos to it, we'll have to fight our way out."
"No," Luo Zheng, watching the sun about to rise above the horizon, said with an increasingly stern face, rejecting Lan Xue's suggestion and declaring resolutely, "Going out is a death sentence. We need to find the Wolf King before the enemy realizes our situation—there might still be a chance."
Just as Luo Zheng finished speaking, noise erupted outside, and soone began shouting warnings. Luo Zheng's complexion changed dramatically; he hadn't expected to be discovered so quickly. Quickly he said, "Xue Er, take the center. Brothers, let's defend each side. If anyone climbs up to the roof, shoot. Given the current situation, we have to fight to the death."
"Kill!" everyone roared softly in agreent, ready to face the inevitable battle.
Before infiltrating the castle, they couldn't make contingency plans due to the lack of detailed information. When danger approached, they were ntally prepared and unfazed, chambering their bullets and readying for combat.
"Brothers, I hadn't foreseen things would turn out like this. I'm afraid we might end up laid to rest here today," Luo Zheng said angrily, his killing intent boiling as he calmly positioned himself at a corner of the roof, kneeling in a defensive stance with a resolute and powerful gaze.
"It's the brave who prevail in a tight spot; let's go for it," Ghost Hand said nonchalantly.
"Exactly, you can't bla yourself, brother. No one could've predicted the situation inside the castle; just getting in was impressive enough. Besides, the brothers have killed plenty. Even if we die today, if we can take out a few of the Wolf King's teeth first, we'll have made a fortune," Snow Leopard said softly, his voice firm and combat spirit soaring.
"No more talk, get ready to fight," Mountain Eagle said coldly, firing without hesitation the mont he saw soone climbing onto the rooftop.
"Whiz." The sniper bullet shattered the tranquility of dawn, stunning everyone. The person who had climbed up was shot in the head, rolling down with a burst of blood that splattered and eerily blood in the Void.
The sound of gunfire rang out, signaling the start of the battle. Everyone watched their assigned directions with cold indifference, entrusting their backs to their brothers. They gave their all, and before long, more enemies attempted to climb onto the rooftop. Everyone opened fire, delivering rapid bursts to knock down anyone in sight.
The Wolf King's n weren't pushovers, retaliating with grenades and return fire. Suddenly, the air was filled with gunshots and explosions, and the battle heated up from the onset. Luo Zheng and the others, in order to avoid injury, lay flat on the rooftop, trying to minimize their exposure and calmly returned fire.
Their precise shooting made the Wolf King's n wary; sohow they stopped their assault, which perplexed Luo Zheng. The battle had barely begun, and it was over; what was this about? Lan Xue whispered, "The Wolf King is probably planning an ambush. Everyone, stay sharp and be careful."
"Ambush?" Luo Zheng paused, carefully watching the surroundings when it suddenly dawned on him, but it was too late. Gunfire erupted from below inside the rooms, with a barrage of bullets sweeping across the rooftop. Fortunately, everyone took cover in the corners, while the enemies focused their attack on the middle of the roof.
"Grenades." Luo Zheng shouted in surprise, pulling out a grenade. Unfortunately, the angle was wrong. With gritted teeth, he ordered, "Xue Er, take my spot." Without waiting for Lan Xue's response, he rolled to the ground, decisively pulled the pin of the grenade, and threw it through the window.
Boom! An explosion sounded, filling the air with smoke.
Almost simultaneously, Luo Zheng had rushed to the alleyway, sweeping the street in front of the room's entrance with gunfire, not daring to stick his head out too far to look. After waiting a mont without seeing any return fire, he quickly changed his shooting position, backing up against the wall to switch magazines rapidly. Lan Xue's concerned voice ca through the earpiece.
"I'm fine," Luo Zheng hastily replied, quickly glancing down the street. He noticed people hiding in several connecting alleys, not firing as if waiting for sothing. Luo Zheng's face paled as he continued, "Enemies are hiding at the entrance of the street alleys, number unknown. I'm going to clear them out."
"It's too dangerous," Lan Xue said anxiously.
Gunfire rang out, danger was everywhere, and life could be lost at any mont. There was no ti to worry about the risk. Luo Zheng felt bitter and then had a stroke of inspiration. He took a running start, stepped on the windowsill, used the montum to leap onto the rooftop, and quickly said, "Everyone retreat to the outskirts of the castle, our backs against the periter. We only need to face enemies from three sides."
Inspired, everyone got up and followed Luo Zheng in a mad dash to one side. The roof was flat, with a maximum distance of two ters between buildings, not a problem for them. They moved with ease. The Wolf King's n hadn't managed to reach the rooftop in ti, so they weren't a significant threat.
While running, Luo Zheng saw a large group of enemies chasing them and quickly pulled the pins from the grenades on his belt, hurling them into the surrounding alleys, setting off a series of explosions. Ghost Hand and the others followed suit, throwing off the enemies' pursuit with this desperate tactic.
Soon, they reached the walls near the outer boundary of the castle. With their backs against the wall, they spread out, took kneeling defensive positions, and Luo Zheng, with his gun raised to his shoulder, watched the surroundings with high alertness. Noticing a target trying to climb onto the roof, already half his head showing and moving with caution, Luo Zheng swiftly adjusted his aim and, with deadly intent, pulled the trigger.
