"Okay, I don't quite understand all this stuff, so here's what you do: you and the head of the Guard give the orders directly, and I'll go greet the related departnts right now. Also, Song Yun, give them your full cooperation." Elder Lin, uninterested in these matters and with much work still to do, delegated the responsibilities to other departnts and left.
Besides the core scientific personnel, others were not allowed underground. Once Elder Lin had left, Lan Xue glanced at Luo Zheng, who nodded in understanding. He put away the blueprint, and Lan Xue turned to Song Yun, "Take him to et the head of the Guard."
"Sure, let's go," Song Yun readily agreed, pleased by the chance to be alone with Luo Zheng. She thought Lan Xue suddenly looked much more agreeable. Seeing Luo Zheng following with a serious face, she started walking outside.
Along the way, seeing Luo Zheng silent and deep in thought, with a sharp and resolute look, exuding an air of valor far more appealing than those so-called high society elites who were all talk, her heart raced uncontrollably. She couldn't help but ask softly, "Hey, what is your actual stance regarding 'us'? I've already declared that I won't marry anyone but you. You're not going to let be a lifelong widow, are you?"
Luo Zheng acted as if he hadn't heard her, continuing his contemplation. Perhaps he was pondering an undecided matter. He unfolded the blueprint and began to examine it as he walked. Suddenly, he was startled by soone blocking his path, instinctively taking two steps back. Upon realizing it was Song Yun, his expression darkened, and he asked coldly, "What are you doing?"
"Are you even listening to ?" Song Yun demanded, clearly upset.
"Why should I listen to you?" Luo Zheng countered coldly, showing no consideration for the adversary's feelings. To soone from the enemy's family, it was already a rcy from Luo Zheng not to deal a fatal blow, let alone engage in any interaction.
"I've already made it clear: I will cut ties with my family for this. Isn't that enough for you?" Song Yun retorted indignantly.
"What's that got to do with ?" Luo Zheng responded coldly.
"How is it not related?" Song Yun's face turned bitter with anger as she said coldly, "Is this how you treat ? I can ignore the feud with the Song family and marry you, be good to you. But I have one condition—I like turning swords into plowshares, or at least a ceasefire between both sides. If that's still not possible, then take away. Even if I have to eat bran and wild vegetables, I'm willing."
"Sacrifice yourself to have give up my vengeance?" Luo Zheng scoffed, "Don't think too highly of yourself. Who do you think you are? Do you think the Song family will listen to you? And why should I listen to you? Ridiculous. Don't forget, you and I have nothing to do with each other. So, what now? You won't leave, is that it?" With that, Luo Zheng swiftly moved past her and walked ahead.
"You jerk! After all I've done, what more do you want?" Song Yun yelled furiously, realizing for the first ti that the situation was completely out of her control, a very unpleasant feeling. She thought it over and followed him, demanding icily, "In terms of looks, in terms of ability, how am I inferior to Lan Xue?"
"Xue Er never demands anything from . You, however, want everything to go your way. Do you think you are an empress? Even if you were an empress, in my eyes, you'd just be a boring woman. Our families are sworn enemies. What do you think would happen if I killed your parents and elders? Do you think we could be together?" Luo Zheng laid it all out coldly.
"Can't you let go of the hatred? Even for ?" Song Yun pressed.
"Why should I let it go for you? Don't forget, we have no relationship whatsoever," Luo Zheng sneered. "I won't deny that you are beautiful and competent, and your heart might not be bad, but you only make demands, expecting this and that, domineering, authoritarian. What n want is a wife who cares for them, not a boss to take orders from."
"You?" Song Yun's face turned pale with anger, shocked by Luo Zheng's words. She snorted coldly, "What's so great about that? I can live alone just fine. Who needs whom? Just wait; you'll regret it."
With that, the conversation ended. Luo Zheng said nothing more and continued walking forward. They both left the basent and arrived at the entrance of the office building on the surface. Luo Zheng carefully surveyed the surrounding area, his expression grave. The entrance to the Military Research Institute was a plaza, followed by the office building. Parking areas flanked the plaza, with many trees planted around. Behind the office building lay the employees' dormitories, also shaded by rows of green trees—a complex environnt. If soone were to hide there, it would be impossible to detect them.
After assessing the terrain, Luo Zheng returned to the entrance of the office building. Seeing Song Yun still waiting there, he acknowledged her professional conduct in work matters. Beside Song Yun stood a middle-aged man in a security uniform. Seeing Luo Zheng, the man ca forward, saluted, and then said, "Hello, I am Zheng Duo, the captain of the Guard. If there's anything you need to do, just command it, and it will be done."
"Thank you for that," Luo Zheng replied politely. Seeing no one around, he spread out the blueprint and said, "You have thirty people in total, fifteen per shift. Set up four to patrol outside the main gate, each responsible for one direction. Also, position four within ten ters inside the wall, each facing a different direction. Two guards should be at the gate, leaving five in concealnt outside the office building within a ten-ter range. I'll decide their positions daily, changing them at any ti. Shifts rotate every eight hours. Any questions?"
Zheng Duo digested Luo Zheng's deploynt and nodded, "No problem."
"Good," Luo Zheng continued, "Electrify the fence on the walls. Also, issue a notice that a fierce Assassin intends to infiltrate the Military Research Institute. Caution everyone to be vigilant, not to go out unnecessarily at night, and to contact you imdiately if they see any strangers. We must mobilize everyone's strength as much as possible. The enemy coming this ti is not simple—he kills without blinking an eye and has heavy weapons, even daring to use grenades on the road. You should understand the danger."
Upon hearing this, Zheng Duo's face grew serious, his dismissive attitude vanishing as he nodded earnestly, "How many of them are there?"
"It's not clear yet, but there's one thing you must warn the Guard about: no one is allowed near the office building at any ti, or they'll be treated as spies. Understood?" Luo Zheng's expression beca stern as he gave the serious reminder.
"How can that be okay? What if there's an ergency, and the Guard needs to provide assistance?" Song Yun asked in surprise, her face troubled as she looked at Luo Zheng.
"I'm in charge here. Are you trying to interfere with my work?" Luo Zheng rebuked uncompromisingly.
"Assistant Song, this comrade is right. The enemy could pretend to be part of the Guard to infiltrate the office building. This arrangent will prevent the enemy from exploiting any loopholes," Zheng Duo intervened quickly to ease the tension.
Upon hearing this, Song Yun realized she had indeed ddled carelessly. Her face flushed with embarrassnt, and she said discontentedly, "Why couldn't you just say so? Why be so fierce?"
