"One step, two steps, three steps..." Luo Zheng pricked up his ears to listen to the sounds around him, filtering out the noise of the rain and wind. He silently counted the steps of the assassin to gauge the distance between them, in order to grasp the best mont to strike. As the battle approached, Luo Zheng felt his heart calm down.
Hidden on the broken slopes, Wu Jin slightly opened his eyes, his divine light contained, holding his breath, still as a mountain, listening in all directions. He watched the assassin, rely a ter away, and the other people approaching. They were only three or four ters away from Luo Zheng, who was lurking exceptionally well and hadn't rushed to save anyone, losing his composure. This ntal fortitude was admirable. At this mont, Wu Jin gained a higher appreciation for Luo Zheng's capabilities and couldn't help but admire him.
On the slope, water rushed downstream. The assassins stepping on the flowing water of the slope created splashes, which appeared particularly eerie in the rain. A naless pressure spread throughout the forest. Luo Zheng slled danger and felt the assassins getting closer. His tranquil heart began to burn.
"Two ters, one ter..." Luo Zheng tensed his entire body, judging the distance to the assassin. His pistol was soaked with mud and unusable. Luo Zheng gripped his black long knife even tighter. There was only one chance, and the consequences of a mistake were unimaginable. Luo Zheng suppressed his impatient emotions and slowly opened his eyes. In the void, the rain fell like silk, the wind howled, and the footsteps grew closer.
"Die!" Luo Zheng's eyes burst open, he yelled loudly, signaling Captain Wu to attack. His body leapt from the mudflow like a Flood Dragon erging from the water. Mud splattered from his body, and his black long knife drew a mysterious arc in the void, striking fiercely towards the assassin less than half a ter away, like a life-stealing Ghost.
This area had already been scouted. The assassin had never expected soone to be lurking underneath. He looked at the falling knife with a face full of horror. A bolt of lightning tore through the void, illuminating the assassin's horrified face as his wide eyes stared dumbfounded at Luo Zheng, whose body was covered in mud and unrecognizable. He was filled with shock and confusion, failing to comprehend what this monster, neither human nor ghost, really was.
"Puff!" In a breath, Luo Zheng's long knife, as fast as lightning, cut the assassin's head off. Blood spurted like a fountain from the chest cavity, rging bizarrely with the drizzling rain.
"Ah!" It was only then that the nearby girl, seeing Luo Zheng covered in mud and resembling a Demon, let out a piercing scream. Her voice tore through the void, piercing the skies, startling Luo Zheng. He quickly turned to look back. However, this glance, filled with murderous intent, appeared like a hellish Ghost, cold and terrifying. His mud-covered body was washed by the rain, dropping off in pieces, looking like rotting flesh in the dim rainy night. The girl's scream abruptly stopped, and she fainted.
Confused by the events, Luo Zheng suddenly felt enveloped by a trendous danger. Shocked, he made a flying leap, grabbed the girl, and rolled on the ground. Bang, bang, bang! Three shots, three bullets chased his fleeing body. Luo Zheng knew that the assassins in the rear had reacted and had started shooting. Not daring to take any risks, he continued to roll.
As he rolled, Luo Zheng spotted the rearguard assassin's position. He threw his long knife, which the assassin dodged. Seizing the brief opportunity, Luo Zheng rolled down the slope and crashed into a large tree, stopping. Then he heard more gunfire from the slope, but it wasn't aid at him.
"Son of a bitch." Luo Zheng, furious, knew that Captain Wu was in trouble. He quickly dropped the girl and climbed towards the slope.
On the slope, from the mont Luo Zheng gave the attack signal, Captain Wu had rushed out like an arrow. His arms, like iron pincers, tightly locked around the neck of the assassin in front of him. The assassin, also fierce, struggled desperately, lifting his gun to shoot behind. Captain Wu dodged to avoid the fatal blow, tightened his grip, and with one hand pressed the opponent's head, twisted in the opposite direction, instantly breaking the assassin's neck.
After killing the assassin, Wu Jin just happened to see Luo Zheng rolling down the slope with the girl. He picked up the assassin's gun and fired several bursts at the rearguard assassin, who was aiming at the rolling Luo Zheng. The assassin, caught off guard by the powerful Wu Jin's burst of fire, was shot dead on the spot.
Luo Zheng heard the gunshots, which were made by Wu Jin killing the assassin. Before he had the chance to climb up the slope, he saw a figure appear on the slope, covered in yellow mud, like a monster, and the gunfire around him ceased. Luo Zheng was startled, but instantly thought of Wu Jin in disguise. He sighed with relief, turned around, and slid down to pick up his little sister to climb the slope again.
The slope was not steep, and there were bushes and weeds to assist in climbing. Luo Zheng quickly made it up, set his little sister down, and looked at Wu Jin covered in yellow mud. He couldn't help but laugh, "Captain, we're almost as muddied as monsters, sorry for the inconvenience."
"What are you talking about? If it weren't for , little sister would have suffered even more," said Wu Jin, squatting down to check her. Making sure she had no fever or injuries, he completely relaxed. Looking at Luo Zheng, also covered in mud, he gave a bitter smile, "Little sister might have been frightened into fainting by your eerie appearance. I'll go clean up the battlefield."
"Huh?" Luo Zheng was taken aback, then also started to smile bitterly. He quickly cleaned the mud off himself. As the rain washed down, his facial features gradually beca clearer. Luo Zheng pinched his little sister's philtrum and called out, "Little sister, it's , your brother, wake up."
After a while, the little sister slowly woke up. Hearing a familiar voice, she opened her eyes, saw Luo Zheng's mud-covered face, felt a flicker of recognition, and hearing Luo Zheng speak, she finally realized and hugged Luo Zheng's waist tightly, saying in terror, "Brother, I was so scared. I just saw a ghost; am I still alive?"
"It's okay, it's all over now. That wasn't a ghost; it was just your brother disguised like that. Don't be afraid," Luo Zheng comforted, holding his sister and feeling her fearful trembling. A pang of guilt washed over him.
"You were disguised?" His little sister paused, then sothing dawned on her, and she scread in terror, "Brother, run! Those bad n are so evil, they want to kill us, run!"
"Don't be afraid, I am here. The bad guys have already been beaten by your brother, don't be afraid," Luo Zheng said with a heart full of pain, looking at his little sister. He glanced at the corpses around them, the assassin with a severed head still oozing blood from its chest. Luo Zheng felt no sympathy for those bastards; they deserved to die!
At that mont, Luo Zheng felt that his little sister in his arms had stopped moving. He looked down to see she had fallen asleep. This journey had been too much for her; the fright, forced march, and exhaustion were overwhelming. Once she relaxed, her nerves eased, and she fell asleep.
"We must leave here as quickly as possible, otherwise, little sister could develop a fever," Wu Jin ca over and whispered, handing a gun and a black long knife to Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng took them, then suddenly heard the roaring sound of a helicopter and was shocked. He looked at Wu Jin. Who would co to this remote forest in a torrential night? A sense of unease suddenly flooded his mind.
