The helicopter soon appeared within view. It was a civilian helicopter. Luo Zheng and Wu Jin exchanged a look and quietly sighed in relief. Suddenly, they saw the helicopter hover in the void, ropes were tossed down, and one by one, people dressed in black combat attire rappelled down, guns on their backs, eerily conspicuous against the night sky. The two n's complexions greatly changed.
"There are six of them. It looks like they're here for us, and they don't seem like military personnel. Strange." Wu Jin's face grew somber, but he did not panic. His cold gaze fixated on the forest as he fell into deep thought.
"Squad leader, stop thinking. They're definitely here for us. You take the little sister and leave. I'll draw them away. Otherwise, none of us will escape." Luo Zheng said coldly, looking at the forest ahead, brimming with a murderous intent.
"No, if anyone leaves, it should be you. I'm the leader. I will stay. Let's not argue." Wu Jin said without hesitation, standing up and checking the confiscated handgun before preparing to move out.
"Wait a minute," Luo Zheng hurriedly said, getting up with the little sister in his arms and looking firmly at Wu Jin. His expression calm, he spoke, "Squad leader, I know you're stronger than , which is why I'm confident in entrusting the little sister to you. We are soldiers, and to die on the battlefield is an honor. But the little sister is a civilian; she shouldn't die here. You're more likely to get her out safely. Please take her."
Wu Jin, his gaze clear and sharp, finally understood why Lan Xue, Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Eagle held Luo Zheng in such high regard. The calmness, the precision in calculations even at critical monts, knowing what was important and what was secondary, and how to make the best and most suitable decisions—all of that calmness could save lives on the battlefield. He couldn't help but laugh admiringly, his eyes becoming resolute as he said earnestly, "Alright, I'll listen to you. The little sister is slightly injured, so I'm taking your question. But rember one thing, you'd better stay alive."
"Don't worry, I've got many people who want to kill , but none have succeeded yet." Luo Zheng was reassured. With the squad leader personally escorting the little sister, her safety should be no issue. And without her holding him back, Luo Zheng was still sowhat confident of surviving in the jungle.
"Can we still use the cell phones?" Wu Jin asked.
Luo Zheng took out his phone from the pocket, shook his head. The phone had been soaked in mud for too long and was unusable. Wu Jin took out his own to check, but it also couldn't function properly. His expression changed slightly, looking around, he said, "I'll definitely bring people over before dawn. Hold out until daybreak. Three stacks of fireworks are the signal. Stay alive. I'll owe you a drink back ho."
"No problem, just have your treasured brew ready, and don't skimp when the ti cos," Luo Zheng chuckled and handed the little sister over to Wu Jin. After checking his handgun, which had five bullets left, he said, "Go on, take care."
"You'd better take care of yourself," Wu Jin said sternly, as he turned and disappeared quickly into the woods.
Luo Zheng didn't move. Since the n in black had found this place, it ant they knew his location, and they would surely pursue soon. What were these n in black all about? Why were they here? Were they really here to hunt him down? With doubts piling high, Luo Zheng decided to stay and sort things out before doing anything else. He began to look around carefully.
Suddenly, Luo Zheng spotted a truncated tree stump in the bushes down the slope, thick enough to be hugged by three people and about six ters long. It was barely visible in the thick of the bushes. Thinking the stump could be a good hiding spot, he slid down the slope to take a look and found the stump hollow, perfectly suitable for hiding a person.
Luo Zheng quickly crawled in and found the space more than ample to hide himself. After making his way to the middle to rest, it wasn't long before he sensed soone approaching. The footsteps were very light, barely audible amid the sound of the wind and rain, entirely reliant on his intuition, Luo Zheng slowly crawled to one end of the tree stump and carefully peeked out. Concealed by the bushes, he didn't worry about being discovered.
Before long, Luo Zheng saw two people stop at the top of the slope. It seed there were others lurking in the nearby woods, but they were invisible, only heard one of them saying softly, "The target has left, start the pursuit imdiately, and make sure to kill the target."
"Yes," another person responded quietly, and the two quickly chased in the direction Wu Jin had left.
Luo Zheng was shocked. It was indeed him they were after, but these people were no ordinary bunch. In the dimly lit forest, despite the rain, they had quickly detected the direction Wu Jin had retreated. They were clearly experts. He had to stop them. Without a mont's hesitation, Luo Zheng crawled out of the tree stump and climbed towards the top of the slope. Suddenly, he felt a twitch in his forehead, a sense of danger sweeping over him. Alard, his foot slipped, and his body rolled away.
"Pop!" A gunshot sounded, and a bullet sank into the ground where Luo Zheng had just been crawling.
"Hiss?" Luo Zheng hadn't expected these people to have left soone covering their retreat. If his foot hadn't slipped at that very mont, his body wouldn't have had ti to react, and he would have been shot for sure. Without ti to think, he rolled to his feet, hunched over and dashed down the mountainside. Since his position was blown, he believed these people would follow.
"Pop pop!" Two more gunshots rang out, bullets striking the tree trunk beside him, sending splinters flying. Shocked, Luo Zheng dove to the ground and took cover behind a large tree. Looking towards the direction of the gunshots, he saw nothing, knew he was dealing with an expert, and couldn't afford to stop or else he would be surrounded. Gritting his teeth, he continued to rush down the mountainside.
While running, Luo Zheng saw a large tree in front that had been knocked down by lightning blocking his path. He paused, intending to bypass it on the other side when suddenly, "Pop!" a bullet whizzed past in front of him, the hot surge of energy shattering the oppressing montum.
"Hiss?" Surprised, Luo Zheng felt imnsely relieved. Had it not been for the tree felled by lightning blocking his path, causing him to pause, he would have run straight into the bullet just a few centiters ahead. That was close. He quickly flung himself to the ground, pretending to be shot, and lay still behind a big tree.
In the dense forest, apart from the sound of wind and rain, there were no other sounds — no talking, no footsteps, no gunshots — as if nothing had just happened. Luo Zheng pressed himself tightly against the tree, motionless, his ears pricked up, patiently discerning every detail, not missing anything. The opponent was formidable and experienced; any mistake could cost him his life.
"Rustle rustle rustle!" Raindrops fell from the leaves onto the surrounding bushes, creating a rhythmic sound. An invisible pressure filled the air, and the night grew denser. In such dire circumstances, it was a test of who could remain more composed. Luo Zheng continued to play dead while using the family's Breathing Skill to regulate his body and recover his strength.
After a while, Luo Zheng heard a faint snapping sound. In the nocturnal rain, it was almost imperceptible. If it weren't for the unavoidable crunch of tiny branches underfoot, he wouldn't have noticed at all. Luo Zheng knew that his opponents had lost their patience and were coming up to check the result.
