"Bang!" Suddenly, a clear gunshot rang out, followed by a clinking sound.

Luo Zheng felt a heavy blow to his back and was greatly alard. He rolled to the side under a tree, ears pricked up in vigilance. Around him, the wind continued to blow gently, rustling the leaves, but beyond that, there was no movent. Luo Zheng's eyes narrowed intently; he hadn't expected the enemy to gain the upper hand. Picking up the black long knife from behind him, he saw that the scabbard had been hit, leaving a white mark where the bullet had disappeared without a trace.

"What a tough scabbard." Luo Zheng imdiately realized that the scabbard had blocked the fatal bullet. The scabbard was strong enough that the bullet couldn't penetrate it—this was the second ti the black long knife had saved his life. Luo Zheng felt an even greater sense of attachnt to this life-saving knife. Although he had seized it from Japanese pirates, it had beco like a brother in arms to him.

"Good brother, thanks. Let's continue to fight the enemy," Luo Zheng said as he slid the black long knife into the belt on his back, grasped his gun in both hands, and called out coldly, "Who exactly are you?"

"Bang!" The response to Luo Zheng was an unhesitant shot. The bullet struck a tree, tearing off a large piece of bark. Luo Zheng, who was hiding behind the big tree, was startled and curled up as small as possible to minimize his exposure to attack. The sound of gunfire continued to ring out nearby.

"Bang!" Luo Zheng fired back toward the general direction of the enemy. The shooting was very haphazard, with no aim to speak of, purely for the sake of intimidation.

However, the enemy didn't care about Luo Zheng's suppressive fire at all and continued to shoot. Bullets kept hitting both sides of the tree, keeping Luo Zheng pinned down and unable to move recklessly. The shooting was fast, and Luo Zheng, with his keen senses, could detect a hint of panic and fear in the rhythm of the shots. He snickered, his ears perked, as he remained motionless, waiting for an opportunity.

"Click!" The sound of the gun's hamr falling on an empty chamber wasn't loud, but the keen-eared Luo Zheng still caught it and knew that the magazine was empty. He was overjoyed because, no matter how formidable a person was, reloading took so ti, and in a duel between masters, that brief mont could an the difference between life and death.

Seizing the rare opportunity, Luo Zheng sprang from his cover, guns raised, one shooting while the other was ready to provide imdiate support. He rushed toward the tree where the enemy was hiding. After several continuous shots, Luo Zheng had accurately pinpointed the enemy's lurking spot based on the sound of gunfire.

"Bang, bang, bang!" Luo Zheng shot as he charged, seeing a black shadow dash from one tree to another not far away, lying under a fallen tree. He pursued without hesitation, firing continuously. When he was less than twenty ters away from the target, he saw the target move quickly again. Luo Zheng didn't hesitate to follow closely. Having emptied the bullets in one gun, Luo Zheng tossed it and the other gun, which had been ready to fire, continued to sound.

While running, Luo Zheng drew out the gun he had taken from the black-clothed man he had just killed, which was also loaded with bullets. He didn't fire imdiately but raised it steadily, aiming ahead with firm and sharp eyes. By making use of the cover fire, he closed in on the target.

After emptying another gun, Luo Zheng didn't bother to reload. He continued to fire with the newly drawn pistol, pinning the target down behind the big tree so as not to give the enemy a chance to look up or retaliate. When he was only about five ters from the target, the sound of a trigger clicking on an empty chamber echoed in his ears.

Luo Zheng's sharp eyes narrowed as he threw his pistol forward and drew out his black longsword. With a powerful push from his feet, his body soared like a cannonball, leaping high into the air towards battle. The black longsword raised high, its chilling killing intent was like that of an invincible War God descending from the heavens, domineering, fierce, and unstoppable like a rainbow.

Perhaps hearing the empty click of the pistol and the absence of gunfire, the last man in black behind the fallen tree revealed a cold smirk. He quickly stood up, pistol reloaded and raised, only to be shocked to see a dark cloud rushing towards him, a cloud swirling with the breath of death.

"Puchi!" The black longsword, like the scythe of Death God, traced a stunning arc, its blade slicing flesh, blood spraying.

The man in black felt his life force draining rapidly, his face filled with shock as he watched Luo Zheng. He hadn't expected that without bullets, Luo Zheng wouldn't hide but instead would engage in this ancient-style lee, a thought flashed through his mind: Such speed. Then, he felt a heavy kick to his lower abdon, and his body was sent flying.

"Thud!" The body of the man in black crash-landed heavily, his neck nearly severed, his head hanging unnaturally, terrifying to behold as blood uncontrollably gushed out.

Seeing his surprise attack succeed, Luo Zheng's heart settled. His cold gaze swept over the man in black who was barely alive, then rested on the blade of the black longsword, where there was a mark from blocking a bullet. He couldn't help feeling moved as he said, "Brother, thank you."

Imperceptibly, Luo Zheng felt as if the black longsword humd in response. On closer inspection, the sword was the sa as ever, nothing special. Luo Zheng brushed aside the trivial thoughts and briskly walked over to the man in black. He kicked the pistol aside and watched him warily, only to notice a look of liberation in the other's cold eyes, a wry smile curving his lips, as if mocking himself, or perhaps mocking the cruel world. His eyelids closed, and he bid the world farewell forever.

"Hiss?" Luo Zheng was surprised. He crouched down to search the body but found no valuable clues. He wondered who these people were. Why did they have that look of liberation? Could it be they lived in unendurable pain? Even assassins have their sentints, but why?

At that mont, a term surged in Luo Zheng's mind: Death Soldier. He was shocked. Modern society was unlike the past; how could such people still exist? Yet, the more he thought about it, the more it made sense to him. Only a Death Soldier could live in such pain, with death being the only escape, the ultimate release.

Ancient families raised Death Soldiers, but modern society wouldn't permit them. Where did these Death Soldiers co from? Luo Zheng thought he might be overthinking and slightly delirious. Shaking his head, he pushed aside these distracting thoughts, gathered dry kindling and combustibles from the ground, and half an hour later, using the fire-drill thod, he started three signal fires. Once the flas grew strong, he covered them with wet branches, and soon thick smoke billowed into the sky.

Above the national border, three helicopters circled anxiously. They quickly spotted the smoke signals and relayed Luo Zheng's location to Wu Jin, who was waiting anxiously at the border. Luo Zheng was in a neighboring country, so the helicopters couldn't cross the border to rescue him and could only observe from high altitude; fortunately, the distance wasn't too far, and visibility was low but clear.

Upon hearing the news, Wu Jin was overjoyed and ready to lead his team, when a burly man ca running up to salute and said, "Squad leader, Mr. Li has an urgent matter and wants you to co imdiately." Wu Jin hesitated, then glanced at the waiting drunkard, who nodded. With his squad, the drunkard moved swiftly towards the forest.
