The harsh white sunlight filtered through the gaps in the dense forest canopy, spilling onto the ground and the bushes, creating mottled patterns that swayed with the breeze, like golden butterflies dancing. As a gentle wind blew, it brought a sense of serenity to the woods. On the ground, a robust man dressed in black lay dead, blood oozing from his chest wound and a bullet hole between his brows, already completely lifeless, with the strong scent of blood spreading through the air.

Soon, two grim-faced n in black erged from behind a large tree, guns in hand, warily scanning their surroundings as they retreated to the corpse's side. They exchanged glances, clearly seeing the panic in each other's cold eyes. Six of their comrades had been killed one by one, filling the two survivors with dread.

Quickly, a sense of desperation surged within them. If they failed the mission, returning would be tantamount to death. Almost in unison, they focused ahead, in the direction that their opponent had fled. Leading and following each other alternatively, they provided cover as they advanced, chasing with a sense of tragic determination and indifference.

Luo Zheng had anticipated that they would pursue him, so he didn't dare to be careless, continuously leaping forward, vaulting over bushes and trees felled by lightning, his movent technique agile and his actions swift. As he crossed a mound, the corner of his eye caught a hole next to it, filled with dry leaves and mud, deeper than a ter. His eyes lit up, and he quickly doubled back.

Around the hole lay dead branches, and Luo Zheng gathered so longer ones along with a mix of leaves and grass. He then cleared so of the dry leaves from the hole, jumped down, crouched, and laid the branches across the top of the hole, followed by dead branches on top of these, using grass as a base, before sprinkling the dry leaves he had removed back on top.

This was a task that required careful and patient work, especially with the fresh mud, which absolutely could not appear on top of the dry leaves, or it would be instantly exposed. If that happened, it would be Luo Zheng who t his end. He ticulously arranged everything, taking extra care as he concealed the trap.

Having only half completed the task, Luo Zheng heard the rustling footsteps of his pursuers approaching. In a rush, he stuffed the grass through the gaps in the branches to provide as much cover as possible. But ti was short. The footsteps drew nearer, and Luo Zheng didn't dare continue, so as to avoid any accidents. He held his breath and waited, all the while straining his ears to listen.

Setting up an ambush along the enemy's expected path with imperfect camouflage was incredibly risky. An experienced jungle fighter could easily detect it, spelling death for the ambusher. But the potential reward for success was great. With the situation at hand, Luo Zheng had no choice but to gamble on these even odds.

"Rustle!" The sound of footsteps on dry leaves grew very close. Luo Zheng's body tensed, like a Fierce Beast ready to pounce, his gun gripped tightly in hand, heart rate accelerating. It was a mont where either the enemy would die, or he would perish, and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

Soon, Luo Zheng felt soone stop just above him, not far from his head. Thinking he had been discovered and ready to charge out in a desperate fight, a sudden realization struck him. If he had been detected, the enemy would have no reason not to shoot. Suppressing his anxiousness, he clenched his teeth and stayed in hiding, waiting for the final opportunity.

Then Luo Zheng breathed a sigh of relief as the footsteps hurried away. He gasped for air, calming his agitated heart. Suddenly, another set of rustling footsteps approached. Anticipating that it was the other person coming closer, his expression hardened with resolve, knowing that his chance had arrived. He looked at the gun in his hand, then put it away and reached for the black knife.

The knife was sowhat long and couldn't be drawn out at all within the pit, unless he stood up. Luo Zheng's hand touched the wooden arrows at his waist; he couldn't help but move and pulled out two of them, clutching them tightly in his hand. His arm's veins bulged out like the roots of an ancient dragon, exuding explosive power, and his palms even started to sweat.

In the midst of waiting, Luo Zheng keenly detected soone approaching from above where he was hiding. Seizing the fleeting opportunity, he took a deep breath and with a forceful push from his feet, his body smashed through the simple camouflage above the pit. Like a fierce tiger bursting out of its cave, he leaped up, his eyes fiercely fixed on the black-clothed person indeed standing in front of him, a cold murderous intent erging at the corner of his mouth.

The black-clothed person was startled by Luo Zheng, who suddenly burst out. Instinctively trying to dodge, he suddenly felt his ankle bone grasped, his footing slipped, and his balance was lost. As he fell backward and was about to shout a warning, a flash of dark light suddenly appeared, shooting towards him like lightning and expanding in his pupils.

The black-clothed person, realizing he had walked into an ambush, heavily fell to the ground. He had not yet managed to shout when the dark light struck him, a sharp pain surging through his brain, his voice forcefully stifled back. In great shock, he instinctively scrambled with his hands, rolling to one side.

Luo Zheng dragged the black-clothed person to the ground, and after plunging the wooden arrows forcefully into the person's mouth, knowing a counterattack might co at any mont, he chose not to linger and let go, allowing the person to roll to the side. The wooden arrow, most of it inside the black-clothed person's mouth, broke off when it collided with the ground during the rolling, the exposed half snapping off.

"Uh?" The wooden arrow tore through the wound, and the black-clothed person let out another agonized cry which, unfortunately, wasn't emitted. Luo Zheng quickly drew his black long knife, pounced like a tiger, and fiercely slashed at the back of the other's neck. With a soft sound, the black knife easily penetrated flesh, blood sprayed, and the intense will to survive and life force of the black-clothed person evaporated like air from a punctured ball, disappearing in an instant. A few symbolic struggles from his hands and feet, and he was completely dead.

After successfully killing with a single strike, Luo Zheng didn't look at the black-clothed person. Instead, he knelt on the ground, his cold gaze fixed ahead, where another black-clothed person had run off. Seeing no one, and not knowing whether the other had been alerted, Luo Zheng didn't let his guard down. He picked up the handgun from the ground and quickly doubled back.

Taking advantage of the surrounding trees and bushes, Luo Zheng ran for about fifty ters in one breath, then with a swift motion, he dove to the ground, hiding behind a bush, looking up with vigilance. He didn't see the last black-clothed person and, refusing to take any chances, he lay down and slowly crawled toward the place he had co from.

Retreating was just to make the last black-clothed person think he had run away. With one black-clothed person killed, the last one not seeing his companion for a long ti would definitely know sothing was wrong and would co back. If he could return silently, there might be a chance to strike again.

After crawling forward about ten ters without seeing the target, Luo Zheng opted for patience. The last black-clothed person had no reason not to return. If he hadn't appeared by now, there was only one explanation: the person knew what had happened and was hiding sowhere inconspicuous, waiting for Luo Zheng to walk into his own demise.

The breeze blew gently, dispersing the bloody scent in the air. The sun shone down on the earth, gradually warming it up. Luo Zheng lay in wait within the bushes, patient. For him, such a stakeout was not an issue at all—he could stay motionless even for an entire day if needed. His sharp eyes searched ahead, not missing a single detail.
