"Da-da-da!" Just then, a burst of intense gunfire erupted, startling everyone. They knelt and aid in the direction of the gunfire, their bodies tensed, ready for combat. Mountain Eagle's anxious voice rang out, "A large number of pursuers have appeared, please instruct."
"So soon?" Luo Zheng was shocked. These people were not just sniffing around like dogs; they also had swift speeds, managing to catch up with everyone's Step Skill—it was no simple feat. His expression darkened, and he quickly said, "Alternate cover, retreat." The enemy situation was unclear, and the environnt unfamiliar; the best course of action was to avoid their edge and disengage from the battlefield first.
Everyone understood what was needed and quickly prepared to evacuate. Lan Xue threw a look to Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard, who intuitively understood and followed Lan Xue quickly to set up defenses for backup. Luo Zheng charged toward the hillside in front and saw Mountain Eagle hiding behind a large tree, continuously firing bursts at the enemy rushing out of the woods.
The enemy was too nurous, spreading out in a charge, leaving no ti to shoot them down. About a dozen enemies surged forward from one side, rely twenty-odd ters away. They didn't fire their guns under the cover of the dense trees but had a terrifying murderous intent in their eyes. Luo Zheng, startled, swiftly lay down and fired bursts while shouting, "Mountain Eagle, prepare to retreat."
"There are too many enemies, too close; retreating now would get us caught," Mountain Eagle yelled as he threw a grenade wildly, just as an explosion erupted with a burst of red light illuminating the night eerily.
Luo Zheng, hearing several cries of agony, remained unmoved, continuing to shoot precisely at the enemies appearing ahead, temporarily suppressing their surprise attack. He shouted, "We must retreat. I'll count to three, throw the grenades together, then fall back."
"Okay." Mountain Eagle, firing bursts toward the woodland in front of him, responded casually. As the enemy had strong firepower and shielded by the woods, they were difficult to handle. Prolonged engagent would be disadvantageous, and retreating quickly was the best option. However, just as he finished speaking, he saw several grenades thrown from the woods. Mountain Eagle was alard and leapt behind him toward the hillside.
"Boom boom!" Several explosions occurred right where Mountain Eagle had taken cover. Luo Zheng was horrified, turned his head, and saw no sign of Mountain Eagle. He panicked, scrambled up, bowing as he ran, "Pu-pu-pu!" Countless bullets flew toward him forcing Luo Zheng to take cover again. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Mountain Eagle lying motionless on the hillside. His face grew cold; he slapped the ground, sprung up, and dashed over.
Having rushed up to Mountain Eagle, just as he was about to help him up, he felt soone behind him on the hillside. He swiftly turned and fired, "Pu-pu-pu!" The bullets killed three n rushing up the hillside. Luo Zheng shouted through his headset, "Quick, cover . I'm falling back."
"Retreat quickly," Lan Xue called out in urgency.
Having received an answer, Luo Zheng picked up Mountain Eagle and sprinted away. Sniper gunfire rang in his ears along with continuously pained cries from the enemy behind. Not hesitating, he dashed off, using the trees for cover as he quickly retreated. Glancing at Lan Xue and others who had dispersed to provide cover fire, he said, "I'm pulling out, follow right away."
"Understood." Everyone responded and took out the enemy ascending the hill. After waiting around two or three minutes, Lan Xue saw more enemies charging, her expression icy cold, her gaze filled with murderous intent like an angry Wild Wolf. She shouted, "Hold for one more minute, grenades."
"Whoosh whoosh!" Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard didn't reply, instead throwing grenades ahead, creating loud explosions. The enemies fell to the ground. Watching the enemies who couldn't duck in ti lit up by the explosion's red glare, Lan Xue's gaze was chillingly murderous as she rapidly fired, killing one enemy after another who couldn't find cover, their headshots splattering blood flowers in the eerie night sky.
"Retreat!" Lan Xue saw that the enemy's attack speed was temporarily contained. If not now, when?
At her command, everyone quickly grabbed their Night Vision Devices hanging around their necks and turned to run without any hesitation. It was convenient to fight with the Night Vision Devices on, but the close explosion of a grenade could injure the eyes, which was unacceptable; thus, they had taken them off and continued to use them while retreating.
While running, everyone used the trees as cover, moving as swiftly and powerfully as leopards, they charged for several hundred ters. Seeing Mountain Eagle sitting on the ground drinking water, they breathed a sigh of relief. Lan Xue rushed over and asked urgently, "How is it?"
"I was stunned by the blast wave of the grenade just now, but it's not a big problem," Luo Zheng replied quickly. Hearing the continuous gunfire from the direction of the pursuers, his face darkened as he continued, "These bastards are relentless. The situation is critical; we can't stay long. Seeing Lan Xue's firm attitude, Luo Zheng found it inappropriate to object. Gazing at the approaching enemies, he said angrily, "Ghost Hand and I will stay behind first; you guys go. Switch every three minutes; retreat towards that tall mountain over there."
Everyone glanced at the mountain peak pointed out by Luo Zheng. It was not far from them and was relatively taller among the surrounding peaks. There was an advantage in retreating uphill as it allowed them to spot and shoot down enemies from a higher vantage point. However, the downside was the risk of being encircled. Knowing Luo Zheng, there must be a good reason for this decision, so no one objected. Lan Xue, along with Mountain Eagle and Snow Leopard, quickly retreated.
"Co on, you bastards." Luo Zheng swapped a magazine and coldly shouted, casting a glance at Ghost Hand positioned strategically not far away, "Brother, us killing these little devils joyfully for a few days is a pleasure of life in itself. You watch your left and right, be wary of Ninjas, prioritize eliminating them; those fellows have too keen a sense for us to ignore."
"Alright, kill the little devils," empowered by a surge of boldness, Ghost Hand loaded his magazine and then leaped to another large tree. Squatting down, he aid at the approaching enemies and yelled, "Brother, kill!"
"Kill!" Not to be outdone, Luo Zheng also triggered the pulled trigger at an erging pursuer, blowing his head off as he leaped high. He quickly shifted his gun's aim and continued firing single shots, the limited supply of ammunition among them all ant that they couldn't afford to waste bullets.
"Boom!" A grenade exploded five ters ahead. Luo Zheng swiftly took cover behind a tree. Hearing fragnts entering the tree with "thud-thud" sounds, his expression unchanging, he estimated the grenade's explosive aftermath and quickly stepped out, kneeling and aiming at the rushing enemies to continue rapid single-shot firing.
"Pop, pop, pop!" Bullets rained down around, hitting the surroundings with terrifying sounds. Luo Zheng quickly pulled back again, his back against the large tree, he glanced at Ghost Hand hiding nearby. The enemy's firepower was too fierce, making it impossible to counter effectively. They could only manage sporadic kills, but it was not significantly helpful. They had to figure out a way to escape.
