"Grenade cover, retreat." Luo Zheng saw that the enemy's assault was too fierce to block, so he urgently shouted and tossed a grenade over about ten ters ahead, then turned and ran. Ghost Hand also quickly threw a grenade and turned to sprint. Hearing the explosions behind them, neither dared to look back, knowing that wasting ti ant death. They continuously zigzagged through the forest, their movents elusive to avoid being targeted by a master.
Soon, they saw Lan Xue and others lying in ambush ahead, ready and waiting. Without ti for greetings, they directly charged over, heading for the peak and leaving Lan Xue and the other two to block the enemy. After running about two hundred ters, they ca across a small slope with so shallow ditches where grass about ankle-high grew. Luo Zheng, struck by an idea, said, "Lay mines."
Upon hearing this, Ghost Hand instantly understood. He stopped with a sliding tackle, his blast-resistant boots sending mud flying from the ground. It was not easy to stop due to their high speed. After stabilizing, Ghost Hand imdiately got busy, took the grenades from his body, pulled out the thin vines from the ground, and started making tripwire mines.
In less than two minutes, Luo Zheng had set up five grenades. Seeing that Lan Xue and the others could not hold back the attack and had withdrawn, he hurriedly signaled everyone to move forward in a column, leading them through the safe area towards the opposite peak. Just as they started up the mountain, a series of explosions sounded behind them, indicating the tripwire mines were effective, which greatly elated him. Not daring to pause, he continued towards the mountaintop. The enemy was stronger, so it was better to evade their sharp edge for now.
After rushing up the mountain for about a hundred ters, Luo Zheng called to Ghost Hand, and the two maintained a distance of about ten ters, each finding a place to hide. Just as they hid, they saw a large number of pursuers reaching the foot of the mountain and spreading out to run up. Luo Zheng's expression turned cold, and he quickly aid at a man who was shouting orders, presumably a leader. His eyes filled with a cold murderous intent, he did not hesitate to pull the trigger.
"Bang." The bullet whistled away, carrying Luo Zheng's full fury, and instantly entered the target's head, spurting a streak of blood which was especially eerie under the night sky.
The Type 95 assault rifle, equipped with a tritium night sight, could accurately target living entities within 200 ters under low-light conditions at night. Luo Zheng took off his Night Vision Device and, relying on the scope, continued to search for targets, pulling the trigger repeatedly, headshotting each enemy he could see.
"Da-da-da!" The enemy quickly discovered Luo Zheng's position and unleashed a barrage of fire. A hail of bullets forced Luo Zheng to stay down behind a large rock. Being on higher ground, the bullets posed little threat. Luo Zheng took a deep breath and, seeing that Ghost Hand was also suppressed by the gunfire and unable to return fire, couldn't help but shout, "Ghost Hand, retreat first, I'll cover you."
"No way, I haven't killed enough yet, you go first," Ghost Hand roared unhesitantly, raising his gun above cover and firing bursts ahead. Unable to effectively observe the enemy, he could only shoot based on intuition.
"Crossfire," Luo Zheng called out, quickly targeting the pursuers in front of Ghost Hand and firing bursts. The enemies in front couldn't peek out to observe, but those on the side could see clearly. Ghost Hand quickly got the ssage and started firing bursts at the enemies ahead of Luo Zheng.
"Boom, boom, boom!" Bullets roared out, burst firing each visible enemy, precise shooting once again stalled the speed of the pursuers' attack. They no longer dared to charge recklessly, instead dropping to the ground to return fire. anwhile, the withdrawing Lan Xue and others had already found cover and started providing covering fire.
With the addition of Lan Xue and her group, Luo Zheng felt the pressure lighten and turned to run. On the mountainside, as though on flat ground, he ran swiftly, constantly using the surrounding trees for cover to dodge the bullets fired by the pursuers, and gasped for air leaning against a large tree after running more than two hundred ters. Running fast and on a slope was extrely exhausting.
"Swoosh!" Almost simultaneously, a sniper bullet whizzed by his ears, hitting a nearby tree.
"Huh?" Luo Zheng's face changed drastically, and he hurriedly shouted, "Be careful, there's a sniper."
Snipers on the battlefield are synonymous with death, especially in the jungle, where they are difficult to locate and guard against. Hearing Luo Zheng's warning, everyone imdiately tensed up. Luo Zheng glanced at the tree struck by the sniper bullet and quickly said, "The sniper is expected to be at the 10 o'clock direction, everyone be careful."
With a rough direction, everyone had a target to focus on. Luo Zheng swiftly switched to the Type 09 sniper rifle, crawled to the side, and positioned himself behind a large tree. Leaning against the tree, he quickly checked his firearm and began searching through his scope. Facing a sniper, the best strategy was to take the enemy out; otherwise, no one could escape. He coldly stated, "Everyone be careful, I'll handle that sniper."
"Be cautious," Lan Xue whispered, curling into a ball to make herself a smaller target while continuously firing at the approaching pursuers in front. With the sniper's presence, they dared not retreat rashly but had to grit their teeth and shoot to stop the ferocious enemy charge. The situation was extrely dangerous.
Luo Zheng, watching his team engulfed in peril, felt a burning anxiety. He quickly searched for the target but found nothing. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down, internally admonishing himself to stay cool-headed. Only with composure could he save everyone. His sniper scope kept showing the figures of pursuers, but there was not one clear target.
"Wait a second." Suddenly, a thought struck Luo Zheng. He began to search again in the 10 o'clock direction, where there was only a dirt mound for cover, next to a large tree surrounded by low, dense weeds—a perfect spot for a sniper. If the enemy sniper had taken that initial shot from there, it would be unlikely for them to remain in place undiscovered. Observationally, there seed to be no signs of ambush.
However, Luo Zheng had a feeling the enemy sniper was still there. It was an intuition shared among snipers. As a sniper himself, Luo Zheng understood their psychology well. Given the current situation, having shot once just to signal presence, hiding was still a significant threat, as it kept everyone too scared to move. Thinking through this key point, Luo Zheng decided to take a gamble, and imdiately shouted, "Guys, one by one, start retreating now, quick! Follow the Bullet Avoidance Steps."
"Understood, Snow Leopard, you first retreat." Lan Xue, realizing Luo Zheng had a plan, didn't hesitate to trust him. She gave the command for a sequential retreat.
Snow Leopard, without any courtesy, grabbed his weapon and turned to sprint backward, his face ashen and heart filled with resentnt. The feeling of being suppressed by the enemy was unbearable. Luo Zheng didn't glance at Snow Leopard; instead, he fixed his gaze on that large tree, guarding against any sudden kill shots from the sniper.
