Ghost Hand's suggestion was like an awakening. Luo Zheng's eyes lit up as he imdiately began to sche. In thunderstorm weather, carrying tal objects could easily lead to being struck by lightning. This problem was not only detrintal to everyone, it was also equally dangerous for the Japanese pirates. However, carrying wooden weapons would be different; the outco was uncertain, but it was worth a try. The question was, how could one travel in a thunderstorm?
Thinking this, Luo Zheng couldn't help but look towards the middle-aged man, his gaze falling on the tribal inhabitants. An idea struck him. Gesturing to the middle-aged man to co over, he pointed to the outline of the research base drawn on the ground, then pointed outside and to the ground again, and made a throat-slitting gesture. The middle-aged man was taken aback, stared at Luo Zheng, looked outside, and then at the map, and finally at Luo Zheng with bright, determined eyes, nodding emphatically.
Luo Zheng pointed to his own weapon, made a dismissive gesture, then pointed to the other's bow and arrows, giving a thumbs up. Finally, he pointed outside the cave, looking at the middle-aged man feeling utterly exhausted. Communicating this way was incredibly taxing, purely guesswork.
Then, as if understanding, the middle-aged man walked over to his people, brought back five bows and arrows, along with the quivers, and laid them out on the ground. Luo Zheng smiled appreciatively, looking towards Lan Xue and said, "You stay behind, our gear needs soone to watch over it. The rest of you, co with ."
"No way, I'm the leader; one of you should stay behind," Lan Xue said without hesitation.
"Just this once, listen to ," Luo Zheng said earnestly.
"?" Lan Xue sulkily looked at Luo Zheng, then turned to Ghost Hand and the others. Ghost Hand and the team silently moved forward to pick up the bows and arrows. As a Soldier King, he wasn't unfamiliar with these ancient weapons. Nobody dared et Lan Xue's gaze. Annoyed, Lan Xue said to Luo Zheng, "I'm the leader, listen to ."
"I'm your man, listen to ," Luo Zheng blurted out, unable to find a counterargunt and so resorted to pulling rank as a man, his voice serious as he looked lovingly at Lan Xue.
Seeing the domineering Luo Zheng, Lan Xue's heart swelled with a sweet feeling. After pondering for a bit, she said, "Take care, and if you don't return by dawn, I'll co looking for you, to the ends of the earth, heaven, and under."
"Don't worry, nothing will happen, I'm just going out to scout. With just these, it's impossible to breach the enemy's defenses. When we'll return is uncertain; we'll see how it goes. Wait for us here, and don't wander off," Luo Zheng, relieved that Lan Xue wasn't insisting, picked up a bow and advised her.
Everyone shed all their tallic possessions, belts included, and went barefoot. In that mont, Luo Zheng understood why the tribespeople went about with their bodies covered. He grabbed a bow and arrow, looking deeply at Lan Xue. In that mont, she also grasped why Luo Zheng wanted her to stay. n could go bare-chested with ease, but it wasn't appropriate for a woman. Staring intently back at Luo Zheng, she said, "Be careful."
"Team leader, that's favoritism," Ghost Hand joked.
"Shut it, all of you make sure to co back safe. Whoever dares not return, I'll skin him," Lan Xue retorted with a laugh.
Everyone burst into laughter, then looked at Luo Zheng. The middle-aged man seed to have guessed Luo Zheng's intention and selected three robust n to accompany him. He pointed to a military backpack where so specialty rope was visible. Luo Zheng imdiately caught on and said, "Guys, each of us should carry a bundle, we might need them."
The team shouldered the ropes while the middle-aged man gestured to his people, uncertain how to express himself. He paired Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Eagle with one of his n each, then positioned himself in front of Luo Zheng and motioned. Luo Zheng was taken aback, then said to Ghost Hand and the others, "I guess he ans for us to follow them, one-on-one."
"Should be, that's better," Ghost Hand responded.
The middle-aged man pointed at the ropes on Luo Zheng's body, took the end of the rope, and tied it to his own waist. Luo Zheng imdiately understood and smiled, nodding. He draped the rest over his shoulder, pulled out about two ters to maintain distance, looked at everyone else who quickly followed suit, and signaled that they could start moving.
Leading the way out of the cave, a massive spider's lightning bolt lit up the sky, illuminating the path ahead. They hastened their steps, crossed the rocky cliff, and ca to the woods. The pitch-black forest was impossible to navigate, but Luo Zheng felt as if the middle-aged man had a Night Vision Device, unaffected and moving at a good pace. He couldn't help but shout, "Guys, all good?"
"No problem, they seem very familiar with this forest. This guide is invincible," Ghost Hand exclaid.
"Ghost, you made the right choice," Mountain Eagle agreed.
"With their help, we can sneak up there and have ourselves a blast," Snow Leopard chuckled gleefully.
"Everybody be careful. Report in every three minutes and stay alert," Luo Zheng reminded them.
They all responded and continued on their way. In the stormy night, like specters, they moved soundlessly forward. The ground's branches and stones were painful underfoot, but luckily their thick calluses helped. Although they didn't walk fast, the rain washed over them. Lightning ravaged the sky, and the dark night was filled with discomfort and fear. Thankfully, their minds were resilient and they remained composed and unpanicked.
The intermittent lightning in the stormy night provided direction, and its light brought a sense of reassurance. They moved at a steady pace, occasionally exchanging a few words. Ti flew by, and they followed the ridge, knowing that beyond it lay a downhill path they had traveled before.
It was hard to tell how much ti had passed—perhaps three to five hours, or even longer. They stumbled and crawled, covered in mud and water, until they finally arrived at a hillside and stopped. The middle-aged man muttered sothing indecipherable and Luo Zheng looked up to see a valley ahead with dim lights. It was the Japanese research base they had visited before, surrounded by mountains with patrols visible in the dim light.
"This is the place," Ghost Hand said excitedly, wiping rain from his face. Lightning revealed his cold gaze as he looked down at the valley base, sharpness in his eyes. He continued, "Little brother, do we infiltrate directly or what? Who has a plan?"
"In this stormy night, who would expect us to co back? Let's go directly for the infiltration," Snow Leopard said, wiping his face. His fighting spirit surged as he looked at Luo Zheng and added, "I'll take the lead."
"Since when is it your turn to take the lead? I will," Mountain Eagle argued, not wanting to be outdone.
"Don't rush, guys, there's plenty to do. I bet there are Land Mines set up on the mountainside. In this visibility, rashly moving ahead might be inappropriate. Let's discuss it more once we reach the spot. Let's go," Luo Zheng quickly diated, and after hearing his words, the debate ceased. They followed him, brimming with readiness to fight.
