Moonlight poured down like water, sprinkling across the dense prival forest, slipping through the gaps in the leaves, dancing through the woods as if they were graceful fairies. In the murky forest, a long procession rushed along under the moonlight, bare-bodied, carrying logs, and strung with bows and arrows. No one said a word. At the front, five people with backpacks carried ard guns—it was Luo Zheng and his group.
Though uneasy, Luo Zheng still decided to proceed with the plan due to the pressing ti—there was no ti to wait or to spare. On the forced march, Luo Zheng led the way, vigilantly watching the surrounding woods. The occasional flight of a large bird startled everyone, alert at all tis, not daring any carelessness.
Lan Xue's face was stern as she scanned the area ahead, on high alert. She occasionally looked back at the team behind her, her pretty eyebrows knitted tightly, her eyes filled with worry. Tonight was the ti for the total attack, success or failure hinged on this gamble. After a distance, Lan Xue lowered her voice and said, "Everyone spread out a bit, be careful of Ninja ambushes and reconnaissance."
A leak would an failure, so no one dared to be careless. They spread out and cautiously continued forward. Hook ca running up, whispering, "Should we spread out for reconnaissance?"
Before Luo Zheng could respond, Lan Xue interjected, "That would be good." Hook nodded in agreent and left. Seeing Luo Zheng's puzzled look, Lan Xue explained, "This is of great importance. I would rather startle the grass to alert the snake and find the hidden Ninja than foolishly walk into a trap. If there are Ninjas, we can reschedule. If we just go like this and are discovered without knowing, there might be a large net waiting for us ahead."
Luo Zheng thought it made sense, nodded, and continued forward. They hadn't gone far when suddenly two wolf howls startled him. He swiftly signaled the team to stand by, and whispered urgently, "I'll go and check, everyone be on guard."
"I'll accompany you, Ghost Hand—you take command," Lan Xue whispered.
The two rushed towards the direction of the sounds. With such high stakes, they couldn't ignore any sign of trouble. They ran swiftly through the woods and soon heard a few more wolf howls, quickening their pace. After about twenty ters, they saw soone in the forest ahead fighting a few Wild Wolves.
Luo Zheng quickly raised his sniper rifle and looked through the sniper scope. It was a person dressed as a Ninja, wielding a knife, and with a clean and ruthless movent, they slashed a leaping wolf into two pieces. Perhaps worried about exposure, they hadn't used the gun on their back.
"Shh!" Luo Zheng suddenly heard a noise in his earpiece and was startled. He looked towards Lan Xue, who was seven or eight ters away. She had her finger curved as if holding a cylindrical object up to her eye, mimicking a Sniper peering through a scope. She then pointed upward—combat sign language indicating she had spotted a Sniper. Luo Zheng was alard and quickly aid at the tree ahead.
Soon, Luo Zheng spotted a person dressed as a Ninja lying on a branch of a large tree, the muzzle moving rapidly as they searched for sothing. Luo Zheng was shocked and quickly put away his rifle, pressing his back against the tree. With his palm slightly bent towards Lan Xue, his fingers closed tight, he placed his horizontal hand above his forehead—combat sign language for having spotted sothing.
Lan Xue lowered her arm vertically, swung her clenched fist backward—combat sign language for retreating. Luo Zheng shook his head, raised his hand above his head, bent his elbow, covered his crown with his palm—combat sign language for providing cover. Seeing Lan Xue raise her wrist to cheek height and clench her fist, palm facing him indicating understanding, he breathed a sigh of relief. He cautiously peeked out to see if there was an opportunity to shoot.
Suddenly, Luo Zheng felt a throb in the center of his forehead, a wave of imnse danger sweeping over him. Alard, he quickly pulled his head back. Following that, a muffled sniper rifle shot rang out. The bark of the tree where he had been hiding was torn off in a large chunk. Luo Zheng was horrified that they had been discovered. He looked at Lan Xue, who was looking back at him anxiously. Luo Zheng shook his head, making the combat sign language for 'no harm' and tightly hugged his gun.
"Swoosh!" As soon as Lan Xue saw that Luo Zheng was unhard, he breathed a sigh of relief, and angered as well, took aim at the sniper's hiding spot without hesitation and fired a shot. Luo Zheng quickly poked his head out and saw a black shadow leap down before Lan Xue's shot, roll upon landing, and stealthily hide behind a large tree, executing the move with clean precision.
At the sa ti, another had killed the last Wild Wolf and also vanished without a trace, leaving the woods suddenly silent as if nothing had happened. However, a scent of blood spread out. Luo Zheng, witnessing the sniper jump down from the tree, recognized the skill involved and dared not be careless. He pressed close against the large tree and pricked up his ears.
"What's the situation?" Mountain Eagle's voice ca inquiring.
After so thought, Luo Zheng spoke in a lowered voice, "Tell everyone to drop the logs and scatter for cover. Co over and help , be careful. The enemy has a sniper, and we've identified two of them."
"Whiz, whiz!" Two more gunshots rang out, and Luo Zheng saw that it was Lan Xue firing. His expression was cold as ice. After taking his shot, Lan Xue didn't hesitate a mont and leapt forward, his body rolling with montum to take cover behind another large tree, his movents as fast as lightning.
"Swoosh!" A bullet struck precisely where Lan Xue had pounced. Had Lan Xue's movents been even half a second slower, he would have been a dead man, no doubt about it. The shot was precise, as was the anticipation. Luo Zheng's face turned cold, and narrowing his tiger eyes, he reined in his killing intent, using his family's Breathing Skill to adjust his breathing, control his emotions, and maintain calm.
"Rustle!" A barely detectable sound of footsteps arose. If it weren't for Luo Zheng's exceptional hearing from a young age, he wouldn't have noticed at all. His hairs stood on end, and with force from his feet, he suddenly lunged to one side. Mid-air, he aid his sniper rifle towards the direction of the sound and fired a shot, not to kill but to intimidate.
"Thud!" The sound of the gunshot was followed by a body falling heavily to the ground, emitting a dull noise. Luo Zheng quickly rolled twice and sprang up, taking cover behind another large tree, his movents extrely swift.
"Swoosh!" Another bullet whizzed by, striking the large tree and sending a shower of splinters into the air. Luo Zheng, back against the tree, had a steely complexion, surprised at the enemy's rapid rate of fire and their ability to lock onto him. This wasn't just any expert—it was the expert of experts.
"Are you alright?" Lan Xue, worried and in disarray, asked through the headset in a low voice, disregarding even the battlefield's rule of silence.
"I'm fine." Luo Zheng spit out the dirt that had gotten into his mouth during his leap, and a fierce coldness flashed in his eyes. His complexion turned icy as he bent his elbow, pointed his forearm to the ground, fingers closed tightly. He swung his arm from behind to the front, signaling to Lan Xue to move forward while he provided cover.
Understanding the signal, Lan Xue nodded, gripping his weapon as he jumped out from cover and dashed forward three steps, then swiftly took refuge behind a large tree. Now the area ahead was eerily quiet, with no one firing. The enemy's firing point hadn't been lured into revealing itself. Luo Zheng's face darkened with worry; not only was the enemy highly skilled in sniping, they were also strategic and difficult to deal with.
