The forest was silent, perhaps out of mutual fear, and no one dared to act rashly. Luo Zheng's eyes were slightly closed, and under the moonlight, bursts of cold light exploded, and his face was filled with a desire to fight. His hand clutching the sniper rifle was full of cold sweat; his opponent was an expert, and the slightest error could be fatal. He couldn't afford to be careless.
"Shasha." Suddenly, Luo Zheng heard footsteps coming from nearby, and he looked up to see Mountain Eagle, running like a cheetah without hiding. This was too dangerous. It wasn't the behavior befitting a Soldier King-level sniper. Luo Zheng knew that Mountain Eagle was exposing himself to attract enemy fire, creating an opportunity for the others to attack.
Snipers understand each other best. Mountain Eagle's disregard for his own life moved Luo Zheng deeply, but it also frustrated him. He glanced at Lan Xue's hiding spot and was shocked to find no sign of her. He quickly scanned the area, but Lan Xue was nowhere to be seen. Thinking of Lan Xue's agile movent technique and more proficient sniping skills than himself, Luo Zheng did not worry too much. Instead, he sharpened his ears and carefully listened to the surroundings while signaling to Mountain Eagle with his hand.
Seeing the signal, Mountain Eagle quickly changed his running path, darted near Luo Zheng, and hid behind a large tree, lying on the ground. He then crawled forward using the exposed tree roots for cover, moving very cautiously. His whole deanor resembled that of a python moving in on its prey, ready to strike a fatal blow at any mont.
Luo Zheng stayed still, waiting for Mountain Eagle to get into position to form a pincer attack on the enemy. The surroundings were silent except for the rustling of leaves in the wind. Luo Zheng touched the large bow on his person and was struck by a thought. Firing his gun would easily reveal his position, but shooting an arrow would not. He imdiately took out his bow and arrow and aid at a large tree not far away.
By that ti, Mountain Eagle had already moved behind another large tree and was ready for battle. He gave Luo Zheng a look, saw Luo Zheng drawing the bow and fitting an arrow but not firing – instead, looking in his direction – and he nodded in understanding.
"Swish!" Luo Zheng let an arrow fly, sending a dark gleam flashing through the night sky, striking the tree with a "thud," sounding like soone had run into it.
"Whiz!" Suddenly, a sniper rifle sounded from deep within the dense forest nearby. The bullet hit where the arrow had struck, knocking the arrow off and leaving a bullet hole in the tree. Luo Zheng's face turned pale at the sight. The shot was terrifying.
The shot startled Luo Zheng, but it provided Mountain Eagle, who was ready to act, with the perfect opportunity to catch the enemy off-guard. Just as Mountain Eagle was about to shoot, a gunshot rang out prematurely from the dense forest. The sniper bullet whistled toward the enemy. Through his sniper scope, Mountain Eagle saw the enemy rapidly retreating, the bullet hitting the tree and stripping off a large chunk of bark.
"What a pity." Mountain Eagle muttered regretfully to himself, thinking that the shot had probably been made by Lan Xue. He looked in the direction of the shot and saw nothing, then strained his eyes and turned to Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng had also seen the scene and inwardly cursed the missed opportunity. He drew his bow and aid another arrow, shooting at another side. The arrow hit the target, emitting a muffled sound, but this ti the enemy did not shoot back. The forest remained silent, no one moved, and as Luo Zheng sensed the sll of blood in the forest, his mind beca even sharper.
The bow and arrow had beco useless. Luo Zheng stowed away the great bow, picked up the sniper rifle again, perked up his ears, and saw Mountain Eagle signaling for cover with combat hand signs. Understanding, he nodded in agreent. As Mountain Eagle crawled to one side, Luo Zheng quickly aid at a suspicious spot and fired, drawing the enemy's attention to provide cover for Mountain Eagle.
"Whoosh!" Another shot was fired, kicking up a large swath of bark. Watching the falling bark, Luo Zheng suddenly had a flash of inspiration, raised his head to look at the trees, and spotted a fork three ters high—an ideal sniping position. He swiftly pulled out Tiger Teeth, stood up, slung the sniper rifle behind his back, and plunged Tiger Teeth into the tree. Using it as leverage, he jumped up and climbed the tree with clean, efficient movents.
Soon, Luo Zheng was standing on Tiger Teeth, his body prone on the three-ter-high tree branch, the sniper rifle resting on the branch. He slowly peeked out and coldly surveyed the area from his elevated position, enjoying a broad view. Soon, Luo Zheng spotted a foot protruding from under a large tree. If it weren't for his vantage point, he might not have noticed it at all. Unsure if it was a trap, Luo Zheng didn't shoot but instead half-closed his eyes, contained his killing intent, and waited for the right mont.
In the forest, gunfire erupted again—it was unclear who had fired—but judging by the direction of the shots, there were more than two enemies. Luo Zheng was startled and watched as a gun barrel slowly extended from behind the tree showing the foot, confirming it was a person, not just a shoe ant to lure. He was overjoyed, quickly taking aim at the foot.
"Whoosh!" Luo Zheng rapidly squeezed the trigger. The bullet whistled away, carrying all his hopes, piercing through the spatial barrier and swiftly hitting the target. Through the sniper scope, Luo Zheng saw the foot jerk back and vanish, leaving a puddle of blood on the ground. It was unclear how badly the enemy was wounded, so he quickly dodged to take cover.
"Whoosh!" A sniper bullet hit the branch and penetrated the trunk, leaving a hole from which wisps of blue smoke rose. Luo Zheng was startled and imnsely relieved. If he had lingered even a mont longer, he might have been finished. His position had been compromised; he could no longer stay hidden. Luo Zheng jumped down with a swoosh, backed against the tree, and tucked away Tiger Teeth. His gaze was icy as he surveyed his surroundings.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!" Three more shots rang out, and it was unclear who hit whom. The forest fell silent again, with only the wind blowing and leaves fluttering softly under the moonlight, as if elves were dancing.
Luo Zheng scoped the area through his sniper scope and found no viable targets, which vexed him a lot. The enemy not only shot quickly but also with remarkable accuracy. Charging out would be akin to suicide. At that mont, Luo Zheng cursed his own lack of speed, wishing he could rush out to draw the enemy's fire. He deeply resented his insufficient strength.
"Whoosh!" Another shot was fired. Luo Zheng was startled, rembering that Lan Xue and Mountain Eagle were still battling the enemy. Energized, he quickly threw his backpack to one side while he dashed in the opposite direction. As he ran, Luo Zheng heard another gunshot and knew his backpack must have been hit. He quickly took cover behind a large tree, his expression cold and eyes sharp, searching for targets while gripping his gun tightly.
Unburdened by the rucksack, Luo Zheng moved much faster. Suddenly, he saw a familiar shadow roll across the ground and disappear—an angle with his position likely Lan Xue. Elated, he noticed a rock on the ground, hooked it with his foot, moved backward, and kicked the rock toward a nearby large tree. The rock hit the tree with a soft thud.
"Whoosh!" A flash of gunfire ca from behind another large tree. Luo Zheng, with his keen senses, spotted the flash and was overjoyed. Just as he was about to fire, he noticed that Lan Xue had shot first.
