Under the cover of night, everyone braved the fierce firepower of the ard militants, attacking and withdrawing fiercely, their eyes red with killing, as the injured fell one after another. Comrades in arms hoisted the fallen and retreated while those unhard imdiately rushed to the front, roaring furiously and continually shooting at the militants trying to advance.
The ard militants were completely in chaos, seeing their comrades falling around them, unable to discern who was responsible. They, too, were blinded by a rage, firing at any suspicious figure on sight. Spotting so taking cover behind a car, three heavy machine guns opened fire indiscriminately, heedless of whether they were friend or foe, surging forward with howls. There were just too many of them, falling in batch after batch.
Soon, the bullets from the heavy machine guns ran out, and without the cover of heavy firepower, everyone's pressure increased in an instant. More and more were injured, and Shi Qingshan watched with desperation, roaring, "Fast, move faster, break through."
Luo Zheng realized that this wouldn't work, that even if they broke through, the cost would be unbearable. He quickly rushed up, grabbed Shi Qingshan, and with a face ashen, shouted, "Quick, tell the brothers to disperse into small groups and blend into the enemy's ranks, each looking for a chance to withdraw, and regroup at the waterfall stronghold."
"Yes!" Shi Qingshan's eyes suddenly lit up. He answered loudly and quickly conveyed the order. Staying in a group was an easy target for attack; in this situation, scattering to break through was the best option.
The order was quickly passed to every ear – in parties of two or three, they carried the wounded and quickly dispersed, rushing into the side alleyways of the wooden huts. Luo Zheng, carrying Kuntai, also entered a nearby alley. When he saw soone rushing over without a white towel on their neck, indicating they were not an ally, he imdiately shouted, "Quick, the enemy has gone that way," using the local dialect he had just learned. Although not very standard, in the panic, no one paid it much mind.
Seeing Luo Zheng carrying a wounded soldier and shouting without hostility, and using the local language, they had no doubts and rushed forward. Soone even patted Luo Zheng on the shoulder and said sothing; Luo Zheng couldn't understand, thinking the person was asking a question and preparing for combat, but the person hurried off, which made Luo Zheng breathe a sigh of relief as he carried Kuntai and sped up, rushing forward.
All along the way, people were shooting at each other. Luo Zheng, not daring to delay, carried Kuntai and took a detour. After a while, he saw a group rushing toward him, guns firing wildly. Luo Zheng was startled and quickly dove into a wooden hut beside him, only to find soone inside with a candle lit, holding a gun, aiming cautiously at him.
"Friendly!" Luo Zheng was shocked and quickly shouted in the recently learned dialect. Whether it was accurate or not, it was worth a try to bluff them. Seeing they looked puzzled and did not shoot, Luo Zheng secretly breathed a sigh of relief, pretending to lay down the wounded by the bed, and stealthily pulled out the Tiger Teeth from his boot.
Then, the person in the hut suddenly uttered sothing incomprehensibly, clearly suspicious but not certain, so they did not imdiately open fire. Luo Zheng slowly stood up to keep them from getting nervous, and with a forced smile, faced them. Seeing their guard was not as high and they didn't seem ready to shoot, Luo Zheng acted like lightning, and the Tiger Teeth flew, plunging into the person's throat up to the hilt.
The ard militant's body stiffened, looking at Luo Zheng with eyes full of panic and shock, and a dying desire for life. The body toppled backward, the eyes wide open in death staring at the ceiling. Luo Zheng approached, pulled out the Tiger Teeth and tucked it away, picked up the person's gun to check it – the magazine was still full. Hanging the gun around his neck and shouldering Kuntai, Luo Zheng went to the doorway and seeing that the group from earlier had moved on, he quickly rushed out.
The wind dispersed the dark clouds, and the moonlight poured down, illuminating the Earth brightly. A gust of wind caused Luo Zheng, who had just rushed out the door to witness this scene, to shiver. Such bright moonlight was not a good thing, as it made it easy to recognize each other; they must retreat quickly.
With that in mind, Luo Zheng chose a direction and began to run faster. Along the way, he would occasionally co across people. Seeing Luo Zheng carrying a wounded comrade, no one suspected him. They were all wandering around, inquiring among themselves. Under the moonlight, visibility had improved dramatically, allowing everyone to see each other's faces up close, which in turn reduced the incidents of friendly fire.
However, after making inquiries, everyone realized there were no enemies to be found, yet many of their own had been killed or injured. Who was responsible for this? Suspicion began to surface in everyone's eyes as they looked at each other. Although they restrained themselves from shooting, arguing beca more common, and in their midst, Luo Zheng, carrying soone, was hastening away unnoticed.
Along the way, Luo Zheng made sure to stay in the shadows of the buildings to avoid recognition, heading towards less crowded areas as much as possible. With visibility now high, moving too quickly could arouse suspicion, so he had to act with caution. Fortunately, he made it to the edge of the camp without any mishaps.
Near the wooden houses on the edge, there were hardly any people left; the militants had all moved towards the center of the camp. Luo Zheng quickly surveyed the area and, feeling relieved, rushed out. Using the moonlight for cover, he swiftly entered the forest. Inside, the wind rustled the leaves, and the crickets were chirping rrily, though they stopped abruptly as if sensing his presence.
Luo Zheng did not dare to linger. He sped up, marching quickly like a ghost, using the trees for cover, bounding out dozens of ters without encountering any pursuers. Taking a deep breath in relief, he slowed his pace and proceeded vigilantly, not overlooking any potential threats. In the forest, it was necessary to be on guard not only against militants lying in ambush but also against wild animals that might attack unexpectedly.
Arriving near a waterfall without realizing it, Luo Zheng started to feel uneasy and slowed down, looking around cautiously. Suddenly, he noticed soone hiding in the bushes ahead, wearing a white dress – probably Pangolin. He laughed to himself, realizing she wasn't a combatant as she had not even done basic camouflage, and called out, "It's coming back, don't shoot."
"Ghost?" a female voice exclaid with surprise. Shortly after, a figure erged from the shrubs – it was indeed Pangolin, who quickly ran up to him.
"We'll talk back at the camp," Luo Zheng called out.
Pangolin stopped, acknowledged, and turned to run back. The two of them, one after the other, ran swiftly towards the camp. Luo Zheng saw Kuntai being thrown to the ground and asked, "Check to see, is it Kuntai?"
Pangolin was shocked and squatted down to check. When she recognized the person on the ground, she started kicking and hitting him frantically, cursing words like "bastard" nonstop. Her emotions went out of control, and her expression was one of extre pain. Luo Zheng knew the bitterness Pangolin felt and didn't stop her, waiting patiently instead.
