"Whoosh!" A sniper rifle sounded, breaking the deadly silence of the icy snowfield. With a sinister whistling, it rushed forward, tracing a deadly arc in the void and instantly entered the thigh of the person collecting corpses, tearing off a large chunk of flesh and causing blood to splatter.
"Ah!" A scream echoed as soone tumbled down a hillside twice, stopping and sitting up, pressing firmly on their thigh while loudly shouting sothing in agonizing expression and a voice filled with sorrow and rage. A lot of blood spurted out. That person, being resilient, quickly pulled an ergency kit from his backpack, tore open a packet, poured the entire bag of clotting powder on the wound, and firmly pressed the gauze onto it, starting to bandage it up.
The sudden mishap surprised the pursuers. It was their first encounter with a snow cave and its traps. Having lost one person due to carelessness, everyone was cautious with snow caves this ti. Unexpectedly, the trap was outside and soone still fell victim. They had assud, like the first ti, that their opponent had only set traps and had withdrawn. But the enemy was lying in ambush nearby.
The unexpected shot baffled two snipers; they quickly surveyed their surroundings. Everywhere was stark white snow—where could anyone be? The sniper rifle fired from inside a snow cave, without even revealing a muzzle flash, making it impossible to locate. But relying on the sound, snipers guessed the rough location and were frantically searching, unaware that they were exposed to soone else's rifle.
Luo Zheng coldly aid at one of them but the angle was tricky, not easy to hit. He lowered his voice and asked, "Xue Er, what's your position like?"
"I can aim at the target on the left, right target angle is insufficient," Lan Xue said in a hushed voice.
"Then hit the one on the left." Luo Zheng spoke softly again.
"Not good, the target moved back," Lan Xue said urgently in a low voice.
Luo Zheng quickly checked and found no trace of the two snipers, he continued through the earpiece, "Everyone, don't panic, patiently wait."
The man shot in the thigh sat on the ground, and although he had managed a simple bandage, he couldn't move. He communicated with his comrades via earpiece, his expression sorrowful and eyes filled with anger. He spoke quickly, seemingly telling everyone not to co over. Luo Zheng, observing the scene calmly through his sniper scope, laughed.
On the battlefield, no one would leave a comrade behind, especially not the powerful Special Forces unit Snow Bear. Luo Zheng intended to use this man to disrupt Snow Bear's attack plans and rhythm. On this chilly mountain, thigh hit by a sniper bullet, bleeding so much, and unable to move, if not swiftly treated, death was inevitable. At this mont, Snow Bear should be the anxious ones, Luo Zheng, seeing that he had gained the upper hand, was not in a hurry.
The icy snowscape was eerily quiet, no figures in sight. The injured person also stopped yelling in pain, sitting motionless on the snowy ground, only the fine snowflakes danced in the wind, fluttering about. The sun shone on the snowy mountains, raising the air temperature slightly. Seeing Snow Bear's n still hadn't moved, Luo Zheng, puzzled, asked in a low voice, "Ghost Hand, have you noticed anything unusual?"
"Wait a mont, let's go out and take a look." Ghost Hand worried about being exposed, and Snow Leopard was still hiding in the Snow Cave. Upon hearing Luo Zheng's question, they carefully crawled out of the Snow Cave and cautiously scanned the surroundings, finding nothing unusual. Ghost Hand asked Snow Leopard to cover him as he crawled out of the Snow Cave and cautiously climbed up the slope. Peering ahead, he still saw no sign of the enemy, which puzzled him. He lowered his voice and said, "I don't see the target."
"They must have hidden under the snow, be careful and don't expose yourself. Wait for my command," Luo Zheng instructed with a puzzled tone, continuing to search the area ahead through the sniper scope without spotting anything unusual. He wondered to himself, how could a person just disappear? Could it be the sa old trick again?
The thought of Snow Bear's tactical use of digging trenches initially almost caught him by surprise. Quickly, he whispered a reminder, "Brothers, the enemy might be digging holes. The snow is soft, which makes digging easy. I reckon they've burrowed under the snow like mice."
"Let's play a ga of Whack-a-Mole," Lan Xue said indifferently. The so-called ga of Whack-a-Mole is when moles suddenly pop out from the ground and people hit them with mallets to score points; if missed, the moles escape.
Luo Zheng, unfamiliar with the ga, could still guess the gist of it when he suddenly spotted an anomaly on the quiet snowfield ahead. Astonished, he quickly moved his sniper scope to observe and noticed a section of flat snow that had slightly sunken down, forming a depression about the size of a bowl. If hadn't been moving his sniper scope over that area at that mont, he wouldn't have noticed at all.
"Hiss?" Startled, Luo Zheng locked onto the depressed area ahead and observed for about two minutes. Seeing nothing unusual, he began to doubt himself. Had he been seeing things? Was that snowy depression always there? Suddenly, Luo Zheng realized a more critical issue: he was on the windward side of the slope, while Lan Xue and Mountain Eagle were on the leeward side. If what he had just spotted was indeed the enemy, it ant that the enemy had stealthily climbed from behind everyone.
With this thought, Luo Zheng shivered, grateful that he had been cautious to stay on the windward side. If everyone had been hiding on the leeward side, they wouldn't have spotted the enemy at all. Shocked, he hurriedly whispered into the headset, "Not good, the enemy has already bypassed us from behind, burrowing through the snow out of our line of sight."
"Could they not care about their comrades' lives?" Mountain Eagle exclaid in surprise.
"Not necessarily, there might still be others in front of us, but so have split off to the back. However, we can't leave our cover, or we'll be exposed. There's a mountain behind us; we can't dig through like they did. What do we do?" Lan Xue urgently whispered.
"I'm already on the back side; I'll handle it. You all maintain your positions," Luo Zheng said quietly, his gaze fiercely fixed on the snowfield ahead.
Upon hearing that Luo Zheng was on the north side, everyone relaxed and regained their composure, continuing to search the area ahead cautiously and waiting patiently. In this minor skirmish, it wasn't gun skills that were being tested, but willpower. Whichever side lacked patience would make mistakes, aning death.
Luo Zheng's eyes widened as if he were a hawk lurking in the shadows, vigilantly searching for prey. His index finger slowly pressed against the trigger, ready to deliver a fatal blow at any mont. In this battle of wills, Luo Zheng knew his side had the upper hand and was in no rush. Suddenly, he spotted another section of the snow sinking before him, forming a depression. This ti, he saw it clearly. Luo Zheng smiled.
